FOREWORD 
 
 A reader in the Munson system giving matter which is general in 
 its nature and also of a grade slightly more difficult than that found 
 in ordinary business correspondence has long been needed. This 
 volume will to a large extent supply both of these demands. The 
 matter itself is interesting and will serve the additional purpose of 
 making the pupil familiar with some of the short masterpieces of 
 literature. For the convenience of teachers the selections have been 
 made from one volume entitled A SELECTION FROM THE 
 WORLD'S GREATEST SHORT STORIES and have been 
 reproduced in Munson Shorthand by special permission of the pub- 
 lishers, A. C. McClurg & Co., and of Professor Sherwin Cody,
