The Electors meet at the capitals of the respective States in which they are chosen, on the second day of December, and give in their bal- lots for President and Vice President. In Kentucky, the law providing for the choice of electors has ex- pired by limitation, and an extra session of the Legislature, and an extension of the former law, or the passage of a new one, will be ne- cessary to secure to the State her electoral vote. It has been carefully revised, and if there are any errors in it they are all in favor of the Administration, and not of the Whigs. The votes marked with a star are those of pre- vious years, in cases where there was no contest this year, and of course are, to a certain extent, not so favorable to the Whigs as they would be had they voted this year. 24 POLITICAL REGISTER FOR 1840. In 1836 this state gave her vote to Wilie P. Mangum of North Ca- rolina as President, and John Tyler of Virginia as Vice President. Since then Mr. Calhoun has gone over to the Van Buren party, and consequently the state, which at all times follows him, has arranged itself with that party. In this state Presidential Electors are elected by the Legislature, and there has been no test of the strength of par- ties in the state for some years. The " Great Nullifier," has com- pletely nullified the state. ALABAMA. 1836. 1836. Counties. White. V. B. White. V. B.
