A new Charter, creating eight Fellows, accepted by the College, but not approved by the King. 1697. A third Charter, creating fourteen Fellows, five being Councillors of the Province, ac- cepted by the College, but not approved by the King. (Preserved in the College Library.) 1700. A fourth Charter, omitting Councillors from the Corporation, not approved by the King. 1707. The first Charter declared to be still in force. 1780. The ancient rights and privileges of the University at Cambridge recognized by the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 1810. The Board of Overseers reorganized ; elective members introduced. 1812. An act restoring the organization of the Board of Overseers as it existed before 1810, not accepted by the College. 1814. An act repealing the act of 1812, thus re-establishing the Board of Overseers of 1810. 1843. Clergymen of all denominations made eligible as Overseers. 1851. Reorganization of the Board of Overseers ; limited term of service introduced. 1865. The election of Overseers transferred to the Bachelors and Masters of Arts, and the Honorary Graduates. 1880. Persons not inhabitants of Massachusetts made eligible as Overseers. 1889. The manner of voting for Overseers simplified and the powers of the Corporation enlarged. IQO2.
