FROM THE PSALMS.
I.
Venite, exultemus Domino.
O, cOME, let us sing unto the Lord: let us heartily
rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving; and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God; and a great king
above all gods.
In his hand are all the corners of the earth; and
the strength of the hills is his also.
The sea is his, and he made it; and his hands
prepared the dry land.
0, come, let us worship, and fall down, and kneel
before the Lord our Maker. 
INTRODUCTORY EXERCISES.
For he is the Lord our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
0, worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness; let
the whole earth stand in awe of him.
For he cometh, for he cometh, to judge the earth:
With righteousness shall he judge the world, and
the people with his truth.
II.
Jubilate Deo.
0, BE joyful in the Lord, all ye lands; serve the
Lord with gladness, and come before his presence
with a song.
Know ye that the Lord, he is God; it is he that
hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his
people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into
his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and
bless his name.
For the Lord is gracious; his mercy is everlasting,
and his truth endureth from generation to generation.
III.
Cantate Domino.
0, SING unto the Lord a new song; for he hath
done marvellous things.

With his own right hand, and with his holy arm,
hath he gotten himself the victory.
The Lord hath made known his salvation; his
righteousness hath he openly shown in the sight of
the nations.
He hath remembered his mercy and his truth
toward the house of Israel; and all the ends of the
world have seen the salvation of our God. 
Show yourselves joyful unto the Lord, all ye
lands; sing, rejoice, and give thanks.
Let the sea make a noise, and all that therein is;
the round world, and they that dwell therein.
Let the floods clap their hands, and let the hills
be joyful together before the Lord:
For he cometh to judge the earth; with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people
with equity.
IV.
Deus misereatur.
GOD be merciful unto us, and bless us; and show us
the light of his countenance, and be merciful unto us:
That thy way may be known upon earth, thy
saving health among all nations.
Let the people praise thee, O  God; let all the
people praise thee.
0, let the nations be glad, and sing for joy; for

thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern

Levavi oculos meos.
I WILL lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from
whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, who hath made
heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; he that
keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth his people shall neither
slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is thy keeper; the Lord is thy shade
upon thy right hand.
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the
moon by night.
The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil; he
shall preserve thy soul.
The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy
coming in, from this time forth, and even for evermore.

VI.
Quam dilecta.
How lovely are thy tabernacles, O Lord of
hosts!
My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts
of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the
living God.
As the sparrow findeth a house, and the swallow
a nest, where she may lay her young, so let me
dwell at thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my king and
my God.
Blessed are they that dwell in thy house; they
will be still praising thee.
Blessed are the men whose strength is in thee; in
whose heart are thy ways.
They will go from strength to strength, till every
one of them appeareth in Zion before God.
For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house
of my God, than to dwell in the tents of ungodliness.
For the Lord God is a sun and a shield; the Lord
will give grace and glory; no good thing will he
withhold from them that walk uprightly.
0 Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth
in thee.

VII.
Exaltabo te, Deus.
I WILL extol thee, O  God, my King; and I will
bless thy name for ever and ever.  Every day will I
bless thee, and I will praise thy name for ever and
ever.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and
his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall
praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy
mighty acts.
I will speak of the glorious honor of thy majesty,
and of thy wondrous works; and men shall speak
of the might of thy terrible acts, and declare thy
greatness.
The Lord is gracious and full of compassion,
slow to anger, and of great mercy. The Lord is
good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his
works.
All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord; and thy
saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the
glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; to
make known to men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom.
Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom; and thy
dominion endureth through all generations.
The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up
all that be bowed down.

The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest
thy hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living
thing.
The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy
in all his works.
The Lord is nigh unto all them that call upon
him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will
fulfil the desire of them that fear him; he also will
hear their cry, and save them.
My mouth shall speak the praise of the Lord;
and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and
ever.
VIII.
Domine, Refugium.
LORD, thou art our refuge in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou
hadst formed the earth and the world, even from
everlasting to everlasting thou art God.
Thou remandest man to the dust, and sayest, Return, ye children of men!
For a thousand years are in thy sight as yesterday past, and as a watch in the night.
Thou bearest them away as with a flood; they
are like a dream.
As grass springeth up in the morning, so man in

the morning flourisheth and groweth up; in the
evening he is cut down and withereth.
Our years are spent as a tale that is told.
The days of our years are threescore years and
ten, and though by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow;
it vanisheth soon and we pass away.
So teach us to number our days that we may
give our hearts unto wisdom.
0, replenish us speedily with thy mercy, that we
may rejoice and be glad all our days. Give us joy
for the days wherein thou hast afflicted us and the
years wherein we have seen evil.
Let the favor of the Lord Our God be upon us,
and prosper thou the work of our hands; yea, the
work of our hands, 0, prosper thou it!
IX.
Domine probasti.
O LORD, thou hast searched me and known me;
thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising;
thou understandest my thought afar off.
Thou compassest my path and my lying down,
and art acquainted with all my ways!
Before the word is on my tongue, behold, 0 Lord,
thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me
behind and before and layest thine hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is
high, I cannot attain unto it.
Whither shall I go from thy spirit, or whither shall
I flee from thy presence? 
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there. If I
make my bed in the under-world, behold, thou art
there. If I take the wings of the morning and
dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there
shall thy hand lead me and thy right hand shall
hold me.
If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me, even
the night shall be light about me.
Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee, but the
night shineth as the day. Yea, the darkness and
the light are both alike to thee.
I will praise thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvellous are thy works, and that
my soul knoweth right well.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me,
how great the sum of them! If I should count
them they are more in number than the sand. When
I awake I am still with thee.
Search me, 0 God, and know my heart; try me,
and know my thoughts; and see if there be any
wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

X.
Quemadmodum desiderat.
As the hart panteth. or the water-brooks, so panteth my soul for thee, 0 God!
My  soul thirsteth for God, for the living God.
When shall I conme and appear before God? For I
have gone with the multitude. I went with them
to the house of God, with the voice of joy and
praise, with a multitude that kept holy-day.
Why art thou cast down, 0 my soul? and why art
thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God, for I
shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
Deep calleth unto deep with the voice of thy cataracts! All thy waves and thy billows have gone
over me. But the Lord will command his lovingkindness by day and his song in the night.
My prayer is unto the God of my life. I will say
to God, Thou art my defence.
Why art thou cast down, 0 my soul? Why art
thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God,
for I shall yet praise him who is the health of my
countenance and my God.
XI.
Benedic anima mea.
BLESS the Lord, 0 my soul; and all that is within me bless his holy name.

Bless the Lord, 0 my soul, and forget not all his
benefits.
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth
all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who
crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies.
The Lord is merciful and gracious; slow to anger, and of great mercy.
He hath not dealt with us after our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
As the heaven is high above the earth, so great is
his mercy toward them that fear him.
As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he
removed our transgressions from us.
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord
pitieth them that fear him.
For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that
we are dust.
The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
Bless the Lord, ye his angels that excel in
strength; that do his commandments, hearkening
unto the voice of his word.
Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye ministers
of his that do his pleasure. 
Bless the Lord, all his works, in all places of his
dominion. Bless the Lord, 0 my soul.

XII.
ATon nobis Domine.
NOT unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy
name give glory, for thy mercy and for thy truth's sake.
Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now
their God?   Our God is in the Ieavens; he hath
done whatsoever he pleased.
Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord; he is
their help and their shield.
He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small
and great. Ye are blessed of the Lord, which made
heaven and earth.
The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's;
but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that
go down into silence; but we will bless the Lord,
from this time forth and for evermore. Praise ye
the Lord.
XIII.
De profundis clamavi.
OUT of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord.
Lord, hear my voice; let thine ears be attentive
to the voice of my supplications.
If thou, Lord, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord,
who shall stand?

I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in
his word do I hope.
Let Israel hope in the Lord; for with the Lord
there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
And he shall redeem his people from all their iniquities.
XIV.
Cdi enarrant.
THE heavens declare the glory of God, and the
firmament showeth his handiwork.
Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto
night showeth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language, and their voice
is not heard:
Yet is their sound gone out through all the earth,
and their words to the end of the world.
The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul:
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise
the simple:
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes:
The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous
altogether.
Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou
me from secret faults.

Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous
sins; let them not have dominion over me.
Then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent
from the great transgression.
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation
of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, 0 Lord, my
strength and my redeemer.
xv.
Dominus regit me.
THE Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he
leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the
shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art
with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence
of my enemies; thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all
the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house
of the Lord for ever.

XVI.
Domini est terra.
THE earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof;
the world, and they that dwell therein.
For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.
Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? and
who shall stand in his holy place?
He that hath clean hlands and a pure heart; that
hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn
deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the
Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Lift up your heads, O ye gates! and be ye lifted
up, ye everlasting doors! and the King of glory shall
come in.
Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong
and mighty; the Lord, mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, 0 ye gates! even lift them
up, ye everlasting doors! and the King of glory shall
come in.
Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory.
XVII.
Afferte Domino.
GIVE unto the Lord, 0 ye mighty, give unto the

Lord glory and strength: give unto the Lord the
glory due unto his name.
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.
The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the
God of glory thundereth; the Lord is upon many
waters; the voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice
of the Lord is full of majesty; the Lord sitteth upon
the flood; yea, the Lord sitteth King for ever.
The Lord will give strength unto his people; the
Lord will bless his people with peace.
XVIII.
Deus noster refuqium.
GOD is our refuge and strength; a very present
help in trouble.
Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be
removed, and though the mountains be carried into
the midst of the sea: though the waters thereof roar
and be troubled, though the mountains shake with
the swelling thereof.
There is a river, the streams whereof shall make
glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High. God is in the midst of her;
she shall not be moved; God shall help her, and
that right early.
The Lord of hosts is with us: the God of Jacob
is our refuge.

XIX.
Exaltare.
BE thou exalted, 0 God, above
thy glory be above all the earth.
My  heart is fixed, 0  God, my
will sing and give praise.
I will praise thee, 0 Lord, among the people; I
will sing unto thee among the nations; for thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the
clouds.
Be thou exalted, 0 God, above the heavens; let
thy glory be above all the earth.
XX.
Qui regis Israel.
GIVE ear, 0 Shepherd of Israel, that leadest thy
people like a flock; thou that dwellest between the
cherubim, shine forth; stir up thy strength, and
come and save us.
Turn us again, 0 God, and cause thy face to
shine; and we shall be saved.
Return, we beseech thee, 0 God of hosts! look
down from heaven, and behold, and visit this vine;
and the vineyard which thy right hand hathli planted,
and the branch that thou madest strong for thyself.
Let thy hand be upon the manl of thy right hand,

Confiteantur.
O THAT men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of
men!
For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut
the bars of iron in sunder.
They that go down to the sea in ships, that do
business in great waters, these see the works of the
Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,
which lifteth up the waves thereof.
They mount up to the heaven, they go down again
to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and
he bringeth them out of their distresses. He maketh
the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
He turneth the wilderness into a fruitful land, and
dry ground into water-springs; and there he maketh
the hungry to dwell, that they may prepare a city
for habitation.

He blesseth them, so that they are multiplied
greatly, and suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
Again, they are minished and brought low, through
oppression, affliction, and sorrow. He poureth contempt on princes, and causeth them to wander in
the wilderness, where there is no way.
Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction,
and maketh him families like a flock. The righteous shall see it and rejoice, and all iniquity shall
stop her mouth.
Whoso is wise, and will observe these things,
even they shall understand the loving-kindness of
the Lord.
O that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of
men. 0, give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good;
for his mercy endureth for ever.
XXII.
Laudate.
0, PRAISE the Lord, all ye nations; praise him, all
ye people.
For his merciful kindness is great toward us; and
the truth of the Lord endureth for ever.
The Lord is my strength and song, and is become
my salvation; the voice of rejoicing and salvation
is in the tabernacles of the righteous.

Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go
into them, and I will praise the Lord.
This is the day which the Lord hath made: we
will rejoice and be glad in it. Blessed is he that
cometh in the name of the Lord.

XXIII.
Laetatus sum.
I WAS glad when they said unto me, Let us go
into the house of the Lord.
Our feet shall stand within thy gates, 0 Jerusalem.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem; they shall prosper that love thee.
Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within
thy palaces.
For my brethren and companions' sake, I will
now say, Peace be within thee.
Because of the house of the Lord our God I will
seek thy good.
XXIV.
Ad te levavi.
UNTO thee lift I up mine eyes, 0 Thou that dwellest in the heavens!

Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand
of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto
the hand of her mistress, so our eyes wait upon the
Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount
Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so
the Lord is round about his people, from henceforth
even for ever.
XXV.
Laudate Dominum.
PRAISE ye the Lord; for it is good to sing praises
unto our God; for it is pleasant, and praise is comely.
The Lord doth build up Jerusalem; he gathereth
together the outcasts of Israel.   He  healeth the
broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
Great is our Lord, and of great power; his understanding is infinite.
Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving, sing praise
upon the harp unto our God.
He covereth the heaven with clouds; he prepareth
rain for the earth; he maketh grass to grow upon
the mountains.
He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young
ravens which cry.
The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him,
in those that hope in his mercy.

Praise the Lord, 0 Jerusalem! Praise thy God,
0 Zion! For he hath strengthened the bars of thy
gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.
XXVI.
Cantate Domino.
SING unto the Lord a new song, and his praise in
the congregation of the saints. Let Israel rejoice in
him that made him; let the children of Zion be joyful in their King.
Praise God in his sanctuary! Praise him in the
firmament of his power! Praise him for his mighty
acts! Praise him according to his excellent greatness!  Praise him with the sound of the trumpet!
Praise him with the psaltery and harp! Let every
thing that hath breath praise the Lord! Praise ye
the Lord!
MISCELLANEOUS.
XXVII.
0 LORD, thou art my God: I will exalt thee, I
will praise thy name.  For thou hast been a strength
to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress,

a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat;
and thou wilt take away the veil that is spread over
all nations; thou wilt swallow up death in victory.
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind
is stayed on thee. Trust ye in the Lord for ever;
for in the Lord our God is everlasting strength.
Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel. In
returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness
and confidence shall be your strength: the work of
righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
And the redeemed of the Lord shall return and
come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon
their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness;
and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
XXVIII.
COMFORT ye, comfort ye, my people, saith your
God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry
unto her that her warfare is accomplished, that her
iniquity is pardoned; for she hath received of the
Lord's hand double for all her sins.
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make straight in
the desert a highway for our God.
Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain

and hill shall be made low; and the crooked shall
be made straight, and the rough places plain.
And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and
all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the
Lord hath spoken it.
0 thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, get thee
up into the high mountain! 0 thou that tellest
good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with
strength! lift it up; be not afraid. Say unto the
cities of Judah, Behold your God!
How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet
of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth
peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God
reigneth!
Break forth into joy! Sing together, ye waste
places of Jerusalem! For the Lord hath comforted
his people; he hath redeemed Jerusalem; and all the
ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God!
XXIX.
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the
waters! and let him that hath no money come, buy
and eat: yea, come, buy wine and milk, without
money and without price.
Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and
your soul shall live.

We remember those who have fallen asleep in
Christ, and in the joyful hope of resurrection unto
life eternal. 0 Lord, refresh their spirits with the
light of thy countenance.
We remember the fathers from the beginning of
the world; the patriarchs, prophets, apostles, martyrs, and all who have wrought righteousness, from
righteous Abel even to the present day. Refresh
thou their spirits, and give them abundant entrance
into the joy of our Lord. And grant unto us, 0
God, that we may have our part and lot with all
thy saints.
We remember all such as journey or are about to
journey, and them that sojourn in strange lands.
May they have thee for their fellow-voyager and
fellow-traveller.  May it please thee to abide with
them wheresoever they abide, and whether they
travel by land or by water, to bring them in safety
to their destined goal. Abide with those whom they
leave behind, and grant that, in health remaining,
they may welcome their own in health returning,
and rejoice with them in safety and in peace.
We remember all who are sick and in distress, all
who suffer in body or in mind, all who are in prison
and in bonds. As bound with them, and as sufferers with them, we bear them in our hearts and pray
for their relief.
We remember our enemies, if there be any who

THE RITE OF BAPTISIM.
ADDRESS.
WHEN our Lord Jesus Christ sent forth his disciples, charged with the ministry of his Gospel, he
gave them commandment, saying: "Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Ghost."
The ordinance of Baptism, thus divinely instituted, has been perpetuated through all the ages of the
Christian dispensation, and continues to this day
to denote and to constitute the entrance into the
Church of those to whom it is administered. It is
the act whereby believers, by right of faith, and
the children of believers, by right of inheritance, are
formally enrolled and incorporated as members of
the body of Christ.
The use of water in this sacrament is symbolic.
As water is the universal purifier, so it is intended
by the use of this element to typify that spiritual

purification, that cleansing of the inward man from
sin and pollution, which the Church, through the
ministry of the Holy Spirit, imparts to believers and
to the children of believers.
If it be an infant that is to be baptized, the minister shall further say to
the parents or sponsors: -
Christian parents who offer their children to be
baptized, present them to the Lord, and devote them
to his service, acknowledging in these little ones a
divine original, a spiritual nature, a heavenly calling, and an immortal destiny; and engaging, or ex- 
pressing their intent, to secure to them the benefits
of Christian instruction, and to bring them up in
the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Then shall the Minister say: -
Which things being duly considered, let the
water of Baptism now be administered.
And he shall baptize the child or the adult, pronouncing the baptismal
name, and saying:
I baptize thee in the name of the Father, the
Son, and the Holy Ghost.
After this a prayer shall be offered, and then, if convenient, a hymn may
be sung.

THE RITE OF CONFIRMATION.
Trte individual to be confirmed, that is, admitted into the communion of
the Church, shall have first received the Sacramentt of Baptism, if not as
infant, or at some subsequent period, then now, as candidate for confirmnation. To such baptized persons as may wish to join the communion of the
Church, the Minister shall say, in thepresence of the Church:
Is it your desire and intent to enter the communion of the Church of Christ? Do you believe in the
religion of Jesus Christ as taught in the Scriptures
of the New Testament?  Do you receive it as Divine, and accept it as the rule of life and the way
of salvation?
Then shall he cause such person or persons to kneel, saying unto them: -
Kneel and receive the blessing of the Church.
Then he shall lay his hands upon the head of each one so kneeling, and

increase in them thy manifold gifts of grace, the

MARRIAGE SERVICE.
ADDRESS.
FRIENDS, we have assembled here to solemnize
the nuptials of this man and this woman, who design to become one in holy wedlock, pledging their
mutual faith, in a solemn covenant before God, that
they will henceforth live together, after God's ordinance, as husband and wife.
For wedlock is the ordinance of God, who saw
that it was not good for man to be alone, and therefore created him male and female, and instituted
marriage as the ground of human fellowship, the
beginning of society, and the mother of mankind.
For this cause, it is written, shall a man leave
father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife,
and they two shall be one flesh.
And this estate our holy religion has made the
symbol of a higher than earthly alliance, typifying
by it the soul's espousal with the Heavenly Bride groom. 
MARRIAGE SERVICE.
Seeing, therefore, that marriage is of God, let us
hallow it in our thoughts, and attend these rites, as
a sacrament of religion, with seriously disposed and
reverent minds.
Then, addressing the parties to be united inr marriage, the Mlinister shall
say: -
M. and N., - Ye stand here mutually betrothed,
and ye purpose to enter the holy estate of matrimony.  Know that the covenant which ye now
make with each other and with God, and to which
ye pledge your mutual faith, engages you, as far as
in you lies, to be helpers of each other's joy and
comforters of each other's sorrow, to cleave one to
another with holy affection and unwavering constancy so long as you both shall live. See to it,
therefore, that ye are fully persuaded in your own
minds, and that ye know of no impediment by reason of which ye may not be lawfully married.
Then shall the Minister say to the man:
M., wilt thou have this woman to thy wedded
wife, to live together, after God's ordinance, in the
estate of matrimony? Wilt thou love her, comfort
her, honor and keep her, in sickness and in health,
in good days and in evil days, and, knowing no
other as wife, cleave only unto her so long as ye
both shall live?

Then shall the Minister say to the woman: -
N., wilt thou have this man to thy wedded husband, to live together, after God's ordinance, in the
estate of matrimony? Wilt thou love him, comfort him, honor and keep him, in sickness and in

no other as husband, cleave only unto him so long
as ye both shall live?
Then shall hlie cause them to join their right hands, saying:
If such be the purpose of your hearts, then join
your right hands in token thereof.
Then shall be said a prayer, which may be the following,  or such  other,
instead thereof, as the Minister may be moved to offer:
O Eternal God, Creator and Preserver of all mankind, Giver of all good, Fountain of all joy! command thy blessing, we beseech thee, on these thy

to fulfil and obey the covenant whiclr they have now
made in thy presence. May their hearts be united
in the closest bonds of love, may they be counsel and strength and light and comfort one to another, sharers of each other's joys, consolers of each
other's sorrows, and helpers to each other in all the
changes and chances of the world. May they so
discharge the duties which belong to this relation
into which they have entered, that it may not be to

I AM the resurrection and the life, saith the Lord
Christ. He that believeth in me, though he were

was, but the spirit shall return unto God who gave
it.
Man that is born of woman is of few days, and
full of trouble. He cometh forth as a flower, and is
cut down; he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me,
Write, From henceforth blessed are the dead who
die in the Lord; even so, saith the Spirit, for they
rest from their labors. 
BURIAL SERVICE.
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God,
a house not made with hands; eternal in the heavens.
Let not your heart be troubled, saith the Lord
Jesus. Ye believe in God, believe also in me. In
my father's house are many mansions: if it were
not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a
place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for
you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also.
Then mayfollow a hymn; after that, selections from the thirty-ninth and
ninetieth Psalms, and also from the fifieenrth chapter of the First Epistle to

(sister), we therefore commit his (her) body to the
ground, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to
dust, in sure and certain hope that there shall be a
resurrection to eternal life of all those who die in the
fear and love of God; for this corruptible must put
on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
He who testifieth of these things saith, Surely I
come quickly; Amen. Even so comrne, Lord Jesus.
