Brethren and Sisters should not pass each other on the stairs, if consistent to avoid it ; but when in company with each other, the Brethren should go up stairs first, and the Sisters go down stairs first. 2. Brethren and Sisters should not visit each other's apartments late in the evening. º 3. When Sisters walk in the fields, gardens, barns, or to the Brethren's shops, there should be, at least, two in company, and it is no less important when they ride in a carriage. 4. Admission to each other's apartments should, at all times be gained by rapping or invitation. 5. The chewing or smoking of tobacco, should not be practiced by any Christian Believer. & 2 CARE OF ANIMALS. “A man of kindness to his beast is kind, Brutal actions show a brutal mind.” 1. Avoid familiarizing with any animal. Cats and dogs should not be made room companions. 2. Any animal requiring severe or cruel treatment should be sold or killed. 3. No beasts nor birds should be kept for mere cu- riosity. * D 4 An animal should not be allowed to suffer for lack of proper Cà.I'ê. w • A-ſº PROTECTION OF PROPERTY. 1. After passing through doors, gates or bars, they should be closed, unless evidently left open for a pur- pose. 2. If furniture in the dwellings should be broken or injured, the family Deacons should, at once, be in- formed. t 3. Workshops should be left clean and tidy at the close of the week, and a regard for neatness and order should be the work of every day. 4. All implements of labor, carts, wagons, car- º Ö riages, sleighs, etc., etc., should be put in their places, if practicable, every night. & 5. Dilapidated buildings which are not expected to be repaired should be taken down. * 6. At night every building should be properly se- cured by the locking of outside doors and the fastening of windows on lower, floors. TO PREVENT LOSS BY FIRE. 1. Open lights should not be carried about the prem- ises. . . . " * , , p 2. A closet, a wardrobe, or an unfrequented place should not be entered with an open light. 3. Lanterns must not be carried to the haymow, nor opened in the barn and they should not be opened in any place where sparks would be liable to set any thing on fire. We can not be too careful in the use of lights of all kinds. «» 4. Chimneys should be burned out once each year, and at a time when the roofs are sufficiently wet to prevent taking fire. 5. Have friction matches carefully secured, and do not carry them in the pocket, unless placed in a safe box. 4 6. Lamps should not be filled with kerosene or any inflammable oil while near a fire or a lighted lamp. 7. Vessels containing combustible matter should never be placed near an open light or fire. Oil or var- nish should never be boiled in any building. g 8. Kerosene stoves should not be filled until thor- oughly cooled. gº tº tº 9. Open lighted lamps should not be held over º chests, drawers, wood-boxes, or corresponding places containing light combustibles. D 10. Lights should be extinguished or left in a safe condition when a room is to be vacated for one half hour or more. - • * . . 11. Ashes should never be placed in wooden vessels.
