( i KXTI.EMEN, — ]n ('()iii])liance witli ymir request I liavo examined the Accounts of St. Patrick'K Churoli, from tlie 28tli Au^upt. 1873, to the present time. At tliat time an Audit was made by Mesnrs. D. M. Grant and C Carletun, showing the receipts and di.sbui*senients of the past a.s well as the liabilities tlieti due and outstandin^jf, and sliowiuij also a balance of cash in the Treasurer's hands of ^97.13. Tlie (Hit.staiulin^- liabilities at that date, exclusive of the Hamilton liOaii, amounted td 5^58.095. 04. Other Atulits were subsc(juf'ntly made l>y tin* same irentlemeii. which do not seem to have licen jiriiited for circulation, but which I have found very convenient as authentic. s((urces of Jnfonnation fctr the compilation of tlie ])resent statenu'ut. For a portion of the period above-named, viz : — fi-om May. 1875, to Xovember, 187^', the liook Accounts were not apparently kept with proper rc<;-ularity and exactness, and cunse(|uently T had to fall back upon the ])ank pass book, the certificates of Mr. Arnoldi, the Architect, and other documents of an e({ua]ly authentic character, but re(|uirini; a <;reat deal of research in order to till up the gaps in the book recoi'd. With the valuable aid of Mr. Kavanagh, the Secretary, whose familiarity with the financial affairs of the Church througlunit the whole period enabled him to produce the re(juired documents. I believe 1 have succeeded in getting at ])retty nearly the whole of the missing link. That some item or items have been omitted, at least on the debit side of the statement is apparent, as it sh(,,vs the expenditure slightly in excess of the receipt ; but it is not surprising that some little discrepancy should, under the circumstances, be found to exist. On the whole I have endeavoured to give a sim])le statement of the entire receipts and expenditure in detail withni the period named, and I am satisfied that the menuiry or knowledge of those interested or more personally conversant with the matter, will find but little to supply in the way of omissions, beyond the existing difference between the two sides of the Account. Respectfully submitted, li. O'REILLY. To tlic Tkusteis, of St. Patrick's Church. Ottawa.
