 RULES AND REGULATIONS 
 
 OF THE 
 
 BROCKYILLE RIFLE COMPANY. 
 
 ]Vo. 1 , A. 
 
 It being highly desirable, that this Company 
 should attain a standing for discipline, Soldier-like 
 appearance, and efficiency, that will enable them 
 to become a pattern Company, and place them first 
 on the list for advancement and promotion in the 
 Provincial Active Forces ; . 
 
 It will be requisite and necessary that the closest 
 attention is paid to all Drills and Parades, ordered 
 from time to time by the Commanding Officer ; 
 and that the Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, 
 and Soldiers, lend their best endeavours to acquire 
 an accurate knowledge of their respective duties. 
 
 Vo attain this end, and correct as much as 
 possible inadvertence and want of attention on 
 the part of Officers and Men, belonging to the 
 Company, it has become necessary to establish a 
 code of By-Laws, and impose Fines, hereinafter 
 mentioned. 
 
JHOi 1. 
 
 The Uniform of this Company shall be Rifle 
 Green Coatee with Scarlet Facings, Rifle Green 
 Pantaloons with Black Stripe, Patent Leather 
 Stock, Forage Ciip and Shako, (as per patterns 
 rendered by the Captain,) with Black Worsted or 
 Cloth Gloves. 
 
 The Oflicers' uniform will be the same as that 
 lately worn by the Royal Canadian Rifle Regiment.

 PENALTIES. 
 
 No. 1. 
 
 Members shall be required to attend all Meet- 
 ings, Drills, or Parades of the Company in either 
 full dress or fatigue, as the Captain in orders 
 (verbally or written) may direct. 
 
 2nd. 
 
 Any Member who shall, or may be found wear- 
 ing the Uniform of the Company, or any portion 
 thereof, at his daily avocations or labour, shall 
 forfeit and pay a fine of Is. 3d. for each offence. 
 Or any Member who shall visit a house of ill fume, 
 wearing any portioa of the Company's Uniform, 
 shall forfeit and pay a fine of 20s., and further be 
 liable to be struck from the rolls of the Cor^pmy 
 as unworthy to stand in their ranks, 
 
 3rd. 
 
 Any Member, who shall fail to attend the Par- 
 ades and Drills of the Company, ordered from time 
 to time by the Commanding Officer — if an Ofli- 
 cer, he shall forfeit and pay a fine of .5s j if a^ 
 Non-Commissioned Officer, he shall forfeit and pay 
 a fine of 2s. t)d. ; and if a Soldier, he shall forfeit 
 and pay a fine of Is. 3d. for each offence, unless a 
 good and valid excuse can be given, satisfactory to» 
 the Commanding Officer. 
 
4th. 
 
 Any Member having in his po.^session the proper 
 Uniform of the Company, who shall appear on 
 Parade improperly dressed — if an Officer, he shall 
 forfeit and pay a fine of 5s. ; if a Non-Commis- 
 sioned Officer, he shall forfeit and pay a fine ol 2s. 
 6d.; and if a Soldier, he shall forfeit and pay a 
 fine of Is. 3d. for each offence. 
 
 5th. 
 
 Any Member, when the Company has fallen in, 
 who shall be found laughing or talking, and other- 
 wise inattentive and unsteady, shall forfeit and pay 
 a fine of Is. 3d. for each offence. 
 
 6th. 
 
 Any Officer, or Non-Commissioned Officer, who 
 shall fail to keep a proper roll of the Company, or 
 neglect to make out returns or reports required 
 from time to lime by the Commanding Officer, 
 shall forfeit and pay a fine of 2s. 6d. for each 
 offence. 
 
 7th. 
 
 Any Member leaving Town for any length of 
 time, must obtain a written leave from the Com- 
 manding Officer, otherwise the fine will be im- 
 posed and collecte 1, the same as if in town, unless 
 unable to give such notice. 
 
 8th. 
 
 Members wishing to retire from the Company, 
 must pay up all dues and fines before their written 
 resignation will be accepted by the Commanding

 Any Member of the Company, after paradr, who 
 shall not carefully return his Arms and Accoutre- 
 ments to their proper places in the Armoury, or 
 whose Arms and Acoutrements shall be found care- 
 lessly and improperly returned to the Arm Racks, 
 or shall take the Arms and Accoutrements of a 
 Comrade, without the permission of the Command- 
 ing Officer, shall forfeit and pay a fine of Is. 3d. 
 for each offence. 
 
 lOth. 
 
 Any Member who shall be late in falling in, or 
 behind the stated time in orders for any Meeting or 
 Parade, and thereby interfering with and dotain- 
 ing the Drill — if an 'Officer, he shall forfeit and 
 pay a fine of 2s. 6d. ; and if a Non-Commissioned 
 Officer or a Soldier, they shall forfeit and pay a 
 fine of Is. 3d . for each offence, unless a good and 
 sufficient excuse can be given. 
 
 nth. 
 
 The Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, and 
 Soldiers of the Company, when under Arms, or ia 
 Uniform, shall be subject to the rules and regula- 
 tions of Her Majesty's regular Array. The same 
 etiquette will be observed, and the same strict 
 discipline required ; and any disobedience of or- 
 ders, or any reluctance or hesitation in carrying 
 out an order given by a superior Officer — if an 
 Officer, he shall forfeit and pay a fine of 5s., and 
 if a Non-Commissioned Officer or Soldier, they 
 shall forfeit and pay a fine of 2s. 6d. for each 
 offence.

 Any Member, who shall be struck from the 
 rolls of the Company, for unsoldier-like or disgrace- 
 fijl conduct, the name of such member shall be 
 liible to be sent to the Commanding Officers of 
 the different Rifle Companies in the Province, as 
 unworthy to serve in an honorable Company.

 ^# 
 
 A Treasurer shall be appointed by the Company, 
 who shall hold Office during pleasure, or until a 
 successor is appointed. He^ shall receive and hold 
 all Monies from fines and otherwise, and all funds 
 thus accruing, shall be applied for purposes of the 
 Company. 
 
 The Treasurer will pay no Bills or Accounts ex- 
 cept by the order of the Commanding Officer, 
 which order he shall retain as his voucher. 
 
 14th. 
 
 These By-Laws, Rules and Regulations, will 
 take full force and effect on and after this date, 
 the2*thof July, 1856.
