RULES AND REGULATIONS 
 
 Passed hy ihe Trustees on the 2^nd dmj of MaVy 1877. 
 
 FOR the Preservation and Improvement and the 
 General Management of the Baptist Burial Ground in the 
 Town of Woodstock. 
 
 Whereas by a general Act of the Province of Ontario 
 passed in the 36th year of the R«ign of Queen Vietoria, 
 Chap. CXXXV, for the regulation and management ot 
 Cemeteries and Church Prop€rty,certain requirements are 
 therein set forth to enable Trustees to hold such property ; 
 and whereas the Trustees of the Baptist Burial Ground of 
 the Town of Woodstock have complied with such require- 
 ments to enable them to hold the property accepted by 
 them in trust for the purpose of a Burial Ground, and the 
 mtnagement thereof.

 7. That persons requiring quarter lots shall not l)e 
 allowed to select the same from unbroken lots unless by 
 the consent of the Committee. 
 
 8 That no erection of any kind shall be put up 
 around any grave or lot until the design shall have been 
 submitted to and approved by the Trustees, or some per- 
 son appointed by them to inspect the same. 
 
 <). That no interment shall take place without a per- 
 nvit from the Secretary-Treasurer (-r one of the Trustees, 
 and all interments shall be under the immediate direction 
 cf the Sexton, whose duty it shall be t(^ have the grave 
 dug and to take the general charge of the proceedings, 
 and no other persc^n shall dii'ect or interfere with inter- 
 ments. 
 
 10. That in the planting or ornamenting of lots,while 
 the Trustees will not unnecessarily interfere with individ- 
 ual views, yet they reserve to themselves the right to de- 
 cide in all cases on the suitability of such planting or 
 oruaiuenting, and they shall have the power to remove 
 from any lot or lots any trees or shrubs which tliey may 
 deem unsightly or objectionable. 
 
 11. That owners of lots shall not be at liberty to as- 
 sign or transfer the same without the consent of the 
 Trustees obtained in writing, and upon payment being 
 made to the General Fund of one dollar for every quarter 
 lot ; two dollars for every half lot ; and four dollars for 
 every whole lot. _,p>i-ir 
 
 12. That when the owner of a lot has left the district 
 and been absent for a period of twenty years, and no in- 
 terment has taken place during that time on such lot, the 
 snid lot, or the portion not used, shall revert back to the 
 Trustees and may be resold by them. 
 
 13. That at least eight hours' previous notice of all 
 interments shall be given to the Sexton, and the following 
 charges shall be paid to the Secretary-Treasurer at or be- 
 fore the interment : —

For opening and closing each adult's grave $2 50 
 
 For opening and closing each child's grave, under 
 
 12, $1.50 ; when the ground is frozen 2 00 
 
 For removal of each adult 5 00 
 
 For removal of each child, under 12 3 00 
 
 Single grave for adults may be procured at $4.50 
 each ; and for children, under 12 years of age. $3.50 each, 
 which said sum shall include the Sexton'a charges. All 
 graves shall be at least five feet deep. , 
 
 Persons wishing to have lots graded, sodded, trimmed 
 and neatly kept during the Summor may make arrange- 
 ments with the Secretary-Treasurer for the same. All 
 such work must be done by the Sexton in charge, or un- 
 der his control by special permission of the Trustees.

 RULES CONCERNING VISITORS. 
 
 1. Children will not be admitted to the Burial Ground 
 unless under the charge of parents or guardians, or some 
 other person who will be held responsible for their con- 
 duct. 
 
 2. All persons are prohibited from picking any flow- 
 ers, either wild or cultivated, or breaking any tree, shrub 
 or plant in the said Burial Ground. 
 
 3. All persons are prohibited from writing upon, de- 
 facing or injuring any monument, fence or railing, or 
 other structure in or belonging to the said Burial Ground. 
 
 4. Any person disturbing the quiet and good order 
 of the place by noise or other improper conduct will be 
 compelled instantly to leave the grounds. 
 
 N. B. — Chap. 67, Consolidated Statutes of Upper 
 Canada, Section 29, enacts as follows : — 
 
 " Any person who (1) willfully destroys, mutilates, 
 defaces, injures, or removes any tomb, monament, grave-

 atone or other structure placed in a cemetery, or any 
 fence, railing, or other work for the protection or orna- 
 ment of a cemetery, .• of any tomb, monument, grave- 
 stone, or other structure aforesaid, or of any cemetery lot 
 within a cemetery ; or (2) willfully destroys, cuts, breaks 
 or ^'njures any tree, shrub or plant in a cemetery ; or (3) 
 playd at any game or sport in a cemetery; or (4) discharges 
 fire-arms (save at a military funeral) in a cemetery; or (5) 
 who willfully and unlawfully disturbs persons assembled 
 for the purpose of burying a body therein ; or (6) who 
 commits a nuisance in a cemetery shall be guilty of a mis- 
 demeanor, and shall upon conviction before a Justice of 
 the Peace, or other Court of Competent Jurisdiction, he 
 punished by a fine of not less than four dollars, nor more 
 than fifty dollars, according to the nature of the offence. "
