( f a To me tli( rer the the it^ sta the Ch poj un vei ex< de< HISTORY. ^pHE need for a Training School was laid upon the ^^ hearts of several of God's children in the city of Toronto some years ago, and that need seemed about to meet a supply when the late Mr. W. Gooderham erected the Christian Institute Buildiiig. But his sudden removal, before a legal conveyance of the property to the Trustees, blighted all hope in that direction. But the need still continued to press upon the friends, and it was finally decided that, in the name of the Lord, a start should be made. Accordingly, in October, 1893, the first session of the School was held in the Lecture Room of Bethany Chapel, which had kindly been placed at the dis- posal of the work. The classes were regularlj^ held until the end of April, 1894. The attendance was very satisfactory, in fact at some of the classes it exceeded the anticipation of the leaders. The interest deepened as the sessions continued, and it was with regret the friends separated. \\^ •> While the School is decidedly interdenominational, and its teachings such as will be helpful to workers laboring on any church lines, still the fact of meeting in a church edifice influences, more or less, the public mind, and leads to the fear that denominationalism has a place in thfe work. To remove all grounds for such objections, it was decided to secure eligible premises, in some central locality, where the work might be continued, and, by God's blessing, enlarged. Accordingly the commodious residence. No. 33 Elm Street, has been leased, and altera- tions made to provide suitable class-rooms and dormi- tories. In these new premises, the opening session of the Second Year's work for the Master, will be held on October 4, 1894. AMALGAMATION. The work which has been hitherto carried on in the Toronto Christian Institute will be transferred to the new home. Mr. Sandham's Bible Training Class for Sunday School Teachers, which has been in operation for eight years, will be held every Monday evening at eight o'clock. All teachers, whether attending the Institute sessions or not, are welcome to this class. DESIGN. The design of the Institute is to aid young men and women who, while realizing that they have a call from God to labor in His vineyard, still feel their need of more Scripture knowledge, and, in some instances, a need for help in other lines of study, and Practical Christian Work. f ADVANTAGES. We might mention several. Suffice it to say that in the Institute there are no hard and fast lines as to attendance. It does not present a course of study extending over two or three years. It therefore makes it possible for young people to devote just the propor- tion of time at their disposal after performing other business or home engagements and duties. They are at liberty to attend any class and for any period they themselves may decide upon. INSTRUCTION. The instruction is mainly Biblical and Practical. The aim of all study will be to enable the student to fully exemplify 2 Tim. 2 : 15. The whole course will z*^ I, have in view proper qualification as workmen, and to fully secure this, each student will be afforded oppor- tunity to put into practice, througli the medium of Cottage Meetings, Open-Air Services, etc., the lessons learned while in class. SESSIONS. The Sessions open October 4th, 1894, and will (D.V.) continue until May 1st, 1895, with two weeks' recess at Christmas. CLASSES. The Classes will be held daily at 3 p.m., and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 8 p.m. When three or more students desire special studies, arrangements will be made to accommodate them. EXPENSE. All tuition is absolutely free. REQUIREMENTS OF ADMISSION. No letters from pastors or teachers are required The desire to learn is the only qualification called for and all, young or middle-aged, who feel the need for « -^- , such help as the Institute is established to supply, will be cordially welcomed, and that to any, or all the sessions. ACCOMMODATION. Rev. Mr. Salmon will reside in the Institute Home and will be prepared to receive a few students as boarders at a moderate sum. Those who avail themselves of this arrangement will enjoy the advantage of a Christian Home and the bene- fit of Mr. Salmon's counsel and assistance between class hours. STUDIES AND TEACHERS. I.
