 Hiill, fully one mile back fn»ni the river which divides the two (cities. The ^vind 
 was hiuh and hlew towards the centre of Hull, which included the bi<f E. P.. Eddy 
 C(tnipany's Mills, and towards the Miilinj^' District and western portion of Ottawa. 
 
 In eijjfht hours time Hull was virtually wiped out, and the fire had gone over a thickly 
 jtopulated and prosperous district of Western Ottawa. 
 
 The devastated area averaged one half mile in width hy three miles in length* The 
 l(»ss, estimated at 81 4,000,000, and Fifteen Thousand P(M)ple were nMulered homeless.
