Dear Sirs,— Wo have had one of your patent Diaphragm Pumps on board the Schooner " Maud C." for about a year, and can speak from experience of its great practical utility. On the passage from Card- enas last winter, laden with Mclado, the " Maud C./ sprung a leak du- ring a severe gale off Cape Hatteras, and had it not been for the great service rendered by this pump the vessel must have foundered with all on board. D'lring the time it has been in the vessel it has not re- quired any repairs; and, on account of the ease with which it works and the quantity of water it draws, is, in our opinion, one of the most valuable pumps in use. Yours respectfully, ' ' (Signed) F. TUFTS & CO. Schooner *• Alice," St. John, N. B., May 20th, 1881. T. McAvity & Sons. Qents,—T\\\s is to certify that I have used the Diaphi-agm Pump in my vessel. From the Chief Engineer of the East Boston Ferries. Boston, Nov. 29th, 1880. Messrs, T. McAvitv & Sons, St. John, N. B. Gents,— I have this day tested Eilson's hnprovod Diaphragm Pump, ma uiifactM red by you. It drafted 31 feet 6 inches measuring from the decic to the water, tiie pipe extending 3 inches below the sui'face. It worked well and is a great improvement. The pump having no packing'friction will lift more water with the same power than any pump I have ever seen, but I would not lecom- mend this or any other pump ever made or that ever will be made to di-aft moi-e than 28 feet if it can bo avoided. Gents,— This is to certify that I have used the Diaphragm Pump in several of my Schooners, and tind it to be a splendid working j)ump; the best I ever used for vessels of this class. They work easy and throw a large stream of water. One man can do more in half an hour pumping with this pump than ten men could do in one hour with the ordinary pump. I would recommend it to any person v,'anting a pump for a vessel not over 15 to 20 feet hold. Yours truly, (Sgd) R. C. ELKIN. St. John County Alms House. Slmonds, St. John, N. B., June 6th, 1881. T.
