A thorough and efficient teacher will always be provided for those, who may wish to take lessons upon the Piano or Organ. ORNAMENTAL BRANCHES. Those scholars, who are desirous of pursuing a Course in Drawing, Painting, &c. will be furnished with suitable instruction in those branches. APPARATUS. By the liberality of the Provincial Legislature, the Trustees have been enabled to procure Apparatus to the value of £ 150, for the illustration of Natural Philosophy and Chemistry. The Institution is also well supplied with Outline Maps, Globes, and Astronomical Charts. A valuable Cabinet of Minerals has been collected, which is not surpassed by that of any other Academy in the Province or adjoining State. TEACHERS, Such a number of Teachers will be employe!, as will be amply suffi- cient to do justice to the School. A RECORD Is kept of the Recitations and Deportment of every Scholar, and a public report is made at the close of each term. DECLAMATION AND COMPOSITION. Every scholar is required to furnish original Compositions several times during the term, and those, who desire to practice themselves in Declama- tion, will receive especial attention. These exercises are thought to be among the most profitable, connected with school duties. les la- be ''' • S T E ' 'tuff ■* A D E M V . 13 'THE GOVERNxMENT Js intended to be mild 14 ST. STEPHEN ACADEMY. REMARKS. This Institution has been in operation more than six years, and has enjoyed a fair share of prosperity, ail'ording advantages for the prosecution of study, which are seldom surpassed. The Building is believed to be equal in point of convenience to any in the Province. It is pleasantly situated on the Main Street, in Milltown, St. Stephen, far enough from the business of the place to be entirely free from its noise. The rooms are large, and well furnished. It has been the aim of the Trustees to secure the services of good Teachers, and they trust that they have not been altogether unsuccessful. Particular attention is given to those branches of knowledge, which are of the most general and practical importance ; but facilities are also furnished for a course of English and Classical study, extending to the first and second years in College. Since the foundation of this Insfitution, it has sent out more than sixty teachers, well fitted to take charge of the primary schools in the vicinity. It has thus been of great importance to the cause of popular education; its ever-spreading influence can hardly be estimated. It is very desirable that Parents should realize the importan"ce- of their co-operation with the Teachers in the education of their children. By a little care on their part, punctual and constant attendance upon the exer- cises of the school may be secured. They should never suffer a child to be tardy or absent, except for the most urgent reasons. The occasional absence of a scholar from recitation materially retards his progress, by placing him behind his class, discouraging him in his efforts, and destroy- ing his interest in his studies. He should be made to feel at home, as well as at school, that study is his great object, and that all other things must, as far as possible, yield to that. Parents can do much to encourage both Teachers and Scholars, by frequent visits to the school room. They thus show that they take some interest in the progress of the school, and add another inducement for the preparation of perfect lessons.
