 PREAMBLE. 
 
 Clause I. Put thy trust in God, know thyself, act 
 honorahly, content thyself with little, avoid show, hear 
 without speaking, he discreet, learn to spare your 
 inferiors, to suhmit to your superiors, to assist your 
 equals, he active, agreeahle, independent. Learn the art 
 of living well — and that of dying. 
 
 Clause II. For the purpose of securing order and 
 regularity and with the view of promoting harmony and 
 decorum, the brethren of Mount Hermon Lodge, No. 7, 
 repeal all former and enact the following by-laws. 
 
 NAME OF LODQB. 
 
 Sec. I. This lodge shall be known as Mount Uebmon 
 Lodge, No. 7, G. R., B. 0. 
 
 DUTY to grand LODGE. 
 
 Sec. II. This Lodge acknowledges the supremacy of 
 the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons 
 of British Columbia, and will at all times pay respect 
 and obedience to its laws, rules, orders and regulations..

 MEETIMOS. 
 
 Sec. III. Regular meetings of this Lodge shall be 
 held at Vancouver on the first Tuesday of every month 
 and also on the Festivals of St. John the Baptist and St. 
 John the Evangelist (but if either of the Festivals should 
 occur on Sunday then on the following day) at such hour 
 as the Master shall appoint, of which the members shall 
 be notified. 
 
 EMERGENCY MEETINGS. 
 
 Sec. IV. Emergency meetings of this Lodge may bo 
 held as provided by Section 89, Page 31 of the Constitu- 
 tion relating to private Lodges. 
 
 OFFICERS. 
 
 Sec. V. The Officers of this Lodge shall be the Master, 
 Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Chaplain, Treasurer, 
 Secretary, Senior Deacon, Junior Deacon, Director of 
 Ceremonies, Organist, Two Stewards, Inner Guard and 
 Tyler.

 Sec. VI. Annually at the Begulai Meeting in Decem- 
 ber, the Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Chap- 
 lain, Treasurer, Secretary, Two Auditors and the Tyler 
 shall be elected by ballot. 
 
 INSTALLATION. 
 
 Sec. VII. Annually on the Festival of St. John the 
 Evangelist the installation and investiture of officers 
 shall take place. 
 
 APPOINTMENTS. 
 
 Sec. VIII. Annually on the Festival of St. John the 
 Evangelist, after the Master has been duly installed in 
 the Chair, he shall appoint the Deacons, Director of 
 Ceremonies, Organist, Stewards, Inner Guard, and two 
 members of the Central Benevolent Committee.

 Sec. IX. Every officer shall attend punctually at the 
 hour named in the notice of meeting under penalty of

 THE MASTER. 
 
 Sec. X. That beyond the ancient charges and regula- 
 tions and the duties laid down by the Book of Constitu- 
 tion, the Master is responsible for the safe keeping of the 
 Warrant and Lodge records, books and papers, and with 
 the Wardens shall hold all the furniture, jewels, and 
 other property of the Lc ige in trust for the members 
 and shall have them insured against loss by fire. He 
 shall sign all orders on the Treasurer and be ex-ofiicio a 
 member of all committees.

 Sec. XI. In addition to the regular duties appertain- 
 ing to his office the Senior Warden shall keep an inven- 
 tory of the jewels, furniture and other property of the 
 Lodge and especially see to their safe keeping.

 Sec. XII. In addition to the regular duties appertain- 
 ing to his office the Junior Warden shall attend to the 
 necessary arrangements for refreshments on all ordinary 
 occasions.

 Sec XIII. The duties of the Chaplain speak for 
 themselves and it is very desirable to have his punctual 
 attendance. He must be a Brother in Holy Orders. 
 
 the treasurer. 
 
 Sec XIV. The Treasurer shall receive from the 
 Secretary all moneys of the Lodge and deposit the same 
 in a chartered bank named by the Lodge, pay by cheque 
 drawn in favor of the party named in the account all 
 orders duly signed by the Master and countersigned by 
 the Secretary. He shall keep books in which his receipts 
 and disbursments shall be regularly entered so as to be 
 able to exhibit the balance in his hands at any time. 
 He shall keep separate and distinct from the private 
 funds of the Lodge all moneys received on account of the

 Grand Lodge and hand the srsme to the Master for trans- 
 mission to the Grand Secretary. He shall annually at 
 least one week previous to the Festival of St. John the 
 Evangelist, suhmit his accounts and vouchers to the 
 Auditors for examination and transfer to his successor 
 immediately after his installation all money and other 
 property of the Lodge in his possession. 
 
 THE SECRETABY. 
 
 Sec. XV. The Secretary shall be exempt from pay- 
 ment of all Lodge dues. He shall keep a faithful record 
 of the proceedings of the Lodge and preserve in order 
 all papers and documents belonging thereto. He shall 
 keep a correct registei* of the Members and of their res- 
 pective accounts with the Lodge and an account shewing 
 the fees and dues received for and payable to the Grand 
 Lodge. He shall sign all authorized certificates and 
 affix the Lodge seal thereto, issue all necessary notices 
 and summonses for meetings, countersign all orders 
 drawn by the direction of the Lodge, notify the members 
 of every committee of their appointment and the nature 
 of their duties, receive all moneys paid by members or 
 others to the Lodge and pay the same immediately to 
 the Treasurer if present at the Lodge or if absent before 
 the next regular meeting ; and discharge all other duties 
 appertaining to the office of Secretary. 
 
 THE DEACONS. 
 
 Sec. XVI. The Deacons shall attend at the opening 
 of the Lodge and take such part in the ceremonies as 
 the Master may direct. 
 
 THE DIBECTOB OF CEREMONIES. 
 
 Sec. XVII. The Director of Ceremonies shall see 
 that the Lodge Room is properly prepared; that all 
 brethren appear in the clothing prescribed in the Book 
 of Constitution and to the best of his ability, that every 
 brother when in the Lodge or at refreshment is stationed 
 according to bis rank.

 THE OBOANIST. 
 
 Sec. XVIII. The Organist shall punctually attend all 
 meetings and take such part in the ceremonies as the 
 Master may direct. 
 
 THE ST£W\KDS. 
 
 Sec XIX. The Stewarcib ^nder the direction of the 
 Senior Warden shall see to the safe and careful keeping 
 of the jewels, furniture a"d other property of the Lodge 
 and under the Junior V. ^rden shall have the arrange- 
 ment and ordering of the refreelmients. 
 
 the INKiJF. GUARD. 
 
 Sec. XX. The Inner Guard shall attend all meetings 
 punctually at the hour named in the notice of meetings 
 to guard the interior of the Lodge, obey the commands 
 of the Master and Junior Warden and give directions to 
 the Tyler. 
 
 THE TYLER. 
 
 Sec XXI. The Tyler shall diligently watch the 
 exterior of the Lodge, see that the candidates for admis- 
 sion are properly prepared, that brethren register their 
 names and are properly clothed, that the furniture and 
 other property are kept in good order and perform such 
 other duties as the Lodge or its officers may direct. He 
 shall be exempt from all Lodge dues. 
 
 AUDITORS. 
 
 Sec XXII. It shall be the duty of the Auditors to 
 audit the accounts and such Auditors shall report in 
 writing at the regular meeting in December and at such 
 other times as trio Lodge may direct.

 Sec XXIII. It shall be the duty of Representatives 
 to the Benevolent Board to attend all meetings of the 
 said Board and aid in dispensing relief in such manner 
 as may be decided on. They shall report to the Lodge 
 at the regular meeting in December or at any other time 
 when required.

 COMMIMTEE OF GENERAL PURPOSES. 
 
 Sec. XXIV. The Committee of General Purposes 
 shall consist of the Officers and Past Masters of the 
 Lodge. They shall have charge of the finances, examine 
 all accounts and when correct recommend the same for 
 payment. They shall have authority to inspect all 
 hooks and papers relative to the accounts, give orders for 
 any alterations required therein. They shall have power 
 to summon the Treasurer, Secretary or other members 
 having possession of any books or papers belonging to 
 the Lodge to attend the Committee. They shall make 
 enquiries and report on all applications for initiation or 
 admission to membership in the Lodge. They shall 
 meet at least once every month or whenever summoned 
 by the Senior Warden, who shall be the presiding officer. 
 Three members shall form a quorum and a "eport of the 
 proceedings shall be presented in writing to the Lodge at 
 each regular meeting and an annual report at the regular 
 meeting in December showing the progress made by the 
 Lodge during the preceding twelve months, the state of 
 the finances, the names of all brethren in arrears for 
 dues with suggestions as they may deem advisable. 
 
 BICK committee 
 
 Sec. XXV. The Master shall, when required, appoint 
 a committee of three brethren to visit the sick or dis- 
 tressed members of the Lodge and on the recommenda- 
 tion of said Committee the Master may grant such 
 temporary relief as may be deemed advisable.

 Sec. XXVI. The Mas'er shall, on the occasion of the 
 election of officers, appoint three brethren to be scru- 
 tineers of the ballot, they shall examine the ballots and 
 report the number of votes cast, when the Master shall 
 declare the brother having a majority of all the votes 
 cast duly elected. 
 
 PROrOSINa MEMBERS 
 
 Sec. XXVII. Every candidate for initiation or affilia- 
 tion shall sign a petition and be proposed by one member 
 
and seconded by another at a regular meeting and shall 
 make the usual declarations required by the Constitution 
 and on such proposition being received by the Lodge, 
 the Master shall order it to be handed to the Secretary 
 t% be laid before the Committee of General Purposes for 
 their consideration. 
 
 HONORARY MEMBERS. 
 
 Sec. XXVIII. Any brother who may have rendered 
 any service to the craft may be admitted an honorary 
 member of this Lodge with or without privileges upon 
 an unanimous ballot, such proposition being notified to 
 all members in the same manner as in the case of joining 
 brethren. An honorary member shall be exempt from 
 dues unless he should accept office, during which term ho 
 chall pay dues as an ordinary member. 
 
 BALLOTING FOR MEMBERSHIP. 
 
 Sec XXIX. No person shall oe initiated if on ballot 
 one black ball appear against him, and no brother shall 
 be admitted a member by affiliation if on ballot three 
 black balls appear against him. No brother shall be 
 made an honorary member unless elected by unanimous 
 ballot, but, to prevent mistakes, the Master may direct 
 the ballot to be forthwith taken a second time. 
 
 SECRECY OF BALLOT. 
 
 Sec XXX. If any brother or candidate on being 
 balloted for, be rejected, it is required of every brother 
 and visiting brother present that they do not on the honor 
 of Masons, at any time or under any circumstances impro- 
 perly disclose the same, any member violating this rule 
 shall be suspended from membership until a full and sat- 
 isfactory apology has been made to the Lodge, and any 
 visitor guilty of like conduct »hall not be allowed to visit 
 the Lodge again or become a member until a full and satis- 
 factory apology has been made to the Lodge, and that 
 any brother present may not plead ignorance the W. M. 
 shall direct this By-law to be distinctly read in open 
 Lodge immediately after rejection and previous to any 
 commuiucution being made to the applicant.

 NON-ATTENDANCE AFTER BALLOT. 
 
 Sec. XXXI. Should any candidate who has been 
 approved for initiation, not attend for the purpose within 
 six months after being accepted by the Lodge, he must 
 before he can be initiated, be again proposed and a fresh 
 ballot taken. 
 
 WITHDRAWAL OP MEMBERS. 
 
 Sec. XXXII. Any brother desirous of resigning his 
 membership may notify the Secretary in writing or 
 signify the same personally at a regular meeting, and a 
 certificate of his standing shall be furnished him, if 
 required, by the Secretary. 
 
 BE-ADMISSION OF MEMBERS. 
 
 Sec. XXXIII. Should any member resign he can be 
 re-admitted by complying with Articles 27 and 29 and 
 should any member who has been excluded or suspended 
 for an indefinite period desire to be re-admitted he may 
 petition the Lodge for its recommendation to Grand 
 Lodge that he be restored and if at the next regular 
 meeting the Lodge by a two -third vote by ballot concur, 
 the petition shall be endorsed under seal and transmitted 
 to the Grand Secretary to be presented to Grand Lodge. 
 Should the action of Grand Lodge be favorable he shall 
 be re-admitted to membership without a further ballot 
 or joining fee.

 Sec XXXIV. The fees for conferring the three de- 
 grees shall bo, for initiation, $80 ; passing, $10 ; raising, 
 $10 and for affiliation $2. 
 
 Sec. XXXV. Any applicant for affiliation to this 
 Lodge, who is only an entered apprentice and having 
 been regularly admitted a member by ballot shall have 
 the privilege of taking the Fellow Craft and Master 
 Mason's Degrees and the fees payable shall be as follows, 
 viz: — Second Degree, $16 ; Third Degree, $20.

 Sec. XXXVI. The annual dues shall be ^9, to be paid 
 by each member (except the Secretary and Tyler) quar- 
 terly in equal proportions. 
 
 Sec XXXVII. If the dues of a brother remain 
 unpaid for six months it shall be the duty of the Secre- 
 tary to read out in open Lodge the name of such brother 
 in default after which a special summons to appear at 
 the next regular meeting to show cause why he should 
 not be suspended together with a copy of this By-law 
 shall be sent to the defaulting brother, and if such 
 brother shall not in the meantime have paid his arrears 
 and no excuse be offered which the Lodge may deem 
 sufficient, it shall then on proof of such default suspend 
 said brother forthwith. 
 
 Sec. XXXVIII. The Lodge may for sufficient cause 
 remit the whole or any portion of the arrears due by a 
 member or may defer enforcing the penalty of this By- 
 law for such period as it may deem advisable. 
 
 DISPOSAL OF FUNDS, PROPERTY, ETC. 
 
 Sec XXXIX. No part of the funds of the Lodge 
 shall be expended except for monthly or other necessary 
 expenses unless a notice of motion has been given at one 
 regular meeting and inserted in the notices for the next 
 regular meeting, when if a majority of the members 
 present approve, the expenditure may be incurred. 
 
 Sec XL. No portion of the furniture, jewels, or other 
 property of the Lodge shall be sold, alienated or in any 
 way disposed of except by a two-thirds vote of the mem- 
 bers present. 
 
 CLOTHING. 
 
 Sec XLI. Brethren shall at all times (when in 
 Lodge) appear in the proper Masonic clothing as pre- 
 scribed in the Book of Constitution. 
 
 secrecy. 
 
 Sec XLII. Any member who shall disclose or make 
 known by any means whatever out of this Lodge any of

 the proceedings, decisions or business of any kind trans- 
 acted within the same to any person not a member of 
 this Lodge, and any member who shall in open Lodge 
 either at Labor or Refreshment make use of any profane, 
 irreverent, or improper expressions or sentiments, or 
 introduce any conversation or remark tending to cause a 
 difference of opinion on national, political or religious 
 subject, shall render himself liable to censure or suspen- 
 sion from membership. 
 
 RULES OF ORDER. 
 
 Sec. XLIII. The Lodge shall be conducted according 
 to the following rules of order: — 
 
 IST. OUDER OP BUSINESS. 
 
 1. Beading and confirming minutes of previous 
 meetings. 
 
 2. Reading correspondence. 
 8. Presentation of petitions. 
 
 4. Reports of committees. 
 
 5. Passing accounts. 
 
 6. Reading names of brethren six months in arrears. 
 
 7. General business, unfinished business, motions, 
 elections, etc. 
 
 8. Enquiry by W. M. if any of the brethren are ill 
 or in distressed circumstances. 
 
 9. Balloting for candidates. 
 10. Conferring degrees. 
 
 2nd. rules of ORDER. 
 
 Sec XLIV. 1. No motion shall be received unless 
 submitted in writing with the names of the mover and 
 seconder thereon, nor be open for discussion until stated 
 to the Lodge by the Master. 
 
 2. All motions shall be decided by a majority of votes 
 unless otherwise provided. In case of a tie the Master 
 to have a second or casting vote. 
 
 8. The votes of the members are given by each hold- 
 ing out his right hand, which hand shall be counted by 
 the Master or Deacons unless the number should be bq 
 unequal as to render counting unnecessary.

 4. No brother dhall speak twice on the same subject 
 without permission of the Master, unless in explanation 
 or the mover in reply. 
 
 5. A brother desiring to speak or submit a motion 
 shall rise and remain standing and respectfully address- 
 ing the Master, shall confine his remarks to the question 
 and observe the strictest courtesy, order and decorum. 
 
 6. Whoever shall be so unmasonic as to hiss at a 
 brother or what he has said, or to interrupt him except 
 to call him to order, shall be publicly reprimanded by 
 the Master. 
 
 7. On a point of order being raised while a brother is 
 speaking or when called to order by the Master, he shall 
 at once take his seat when the point of order shall be 
 stated by the brother objecting, the Master shall decide 
 thereupon without debate, when after having been set 
 right the brother may proceed. 
 
 8. No amendment to a motion shall be in order after 
 an amendment to an amendment, but after a vote has 
 been taken on an amendment and it has been declared 
 lost, further amendments are in order. 
 
 0. A ballot shall be taken on a question when called 
 for by two members either immediately before or after 
 an open vote shall have been taken. 
 
 10. If the Master indicate a desire to speak while a 
 brother is on the floor that brother shall immediately sit 
 down that the Master may be heard. 
 
 11. All brethren shall observe the first call of the 
 Master's gavel. 
 
 12. Whenever a question has been submitied for con- 
 sideration it cannot be withdrawn without the consent of 
 the Lodge. 
 
 13. Every member present shall vote on any question 
 brought before the Loage unless excused by the Master 
 or Lodge from doing so. 
 
 14. A motion that has been declared lost cannot be 
 renewed at the same meeting of the Lodge.

 BEHAVIOUR. 
 
 Sec. XLV. A brother violating any of the provisions 
 of these by-laws or behaving in such a manner as to dis- 
 turb the harmony of the Lodge, may be admonished by 
 the Master, or after due trial subjected to such punish- 
 ment as the brethren may have the power to inflict, or 
 his case may be reported to higher authority. 
 
 SIGNING BY-LAWS. 
 
 Sec. XL VI. These by-laws shall be written in a book, 
 signed by the Master and Secretary and have the seal of 
 the Lodge affixed and every brother shall sign them as a 
 declaration of his submission thereto, and a printed copy 
 shall be delivered to each candidate upon his acceptance 
 for initiation by the Lodge. 
 
 ALTERATION OP BY-LAWS. 
 
 Sec. XLVII. No alteration shall be made in these 
 by-laws unless by a notice of motion given in writing at 
 a regular meeting of the proposed alteration which shall 
 be duly entered on the minutes and inserted in the notice 
 for the next regular meeting, stating when the proposed 
 alteration shall come on for discussion, and on a resolu- 
 tion regularly moved and seconded in favor thereof 
 being agreed to by two-thirds of the members present, it 
 shall, as soon as it receives the sanction of the Grand 
 Master, become law.
