V. The Officers of the Society and the Clergy of the Diocese shall be ex ojicfo ttrembet's ^f ^th^^ Committee : five to be a quo- rum, and three VIII. The Society will circulate no Books which are not in the catalogue of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, except such as tbe Jiisbop shall aipprove. IX. It shall be competent to any member of the Society to limit his subscription to any one or more of the objects above re- cited, which he may be most anxious to promote. ;■ ■ ' ■ X. The Members of the Society in each Mission, or in each Parish of each Mission, at the discretion of the Missionary, shall constitute a Local Committee. XL It shall be competent to each Committee to recommend any of the aboYe recited objects to the special consideration of the General Committee, in. the appropriation of the funds of the Society. XIL The Society shall hpld its Anniversary Meeting at Frederic- ton and Saint John alternately ;. at the latter place on the Thursday after third Tuesday in January, and at the former place on the the Thursday after the second Tuesday in Febru- ary in each year. XIIL The Committee of each Parish or Mission shall hold an Annual Meeting, on some convenient day, previous to the Anniversary Meeting; when the recommendation to the Gene- ral Committee of special objects shall be determined on. XIV. Each Local Committee shall be empowered to depute two of its La^ Members, to be elected at the Annual Meeting of the Committee, to assist the Missionary in submitting the recom- mendations of the Committee to the consideration of the General Committer Vll. -<> M V " i XV. For this purpoie the Missionaries and the Lay Deputies shall meet in General Committee on the two days, or more if need be, previous tu the Anniversary Meeting, to make the annual appropriation of the funds of the Society. XVI. The Executive Committee shall meet either at Frederic ton or Saint John, on the first Wednesday in January, on the day after the Annual Meeting, on the first Wednesday in March, on the 1st Wednesday in June, and on the Wednesday after the first Tuesday in October. XVII. The Clergy are requested to preach annually two Sermons in their respective Churches, with a Collection on each occasion for the General Purposes of the Society. XVIII. Bacon thanks the Society, on behalf of this Committee, for the last year's liberal and seasonable sappl;^ of Books, which, he says, proves a valuable acquisition totbt) Sunday School Ubrarv. Carman, Esq. are appointed Lay Deputies; and further reports Subscriptions to the amount of £16 Os. 3d. ; the collection on Trinity Sunday was £6 5s. and that on Jan. 6, £0 5e. 8d., making a total of £28 10s. lid. DouGtAs.— Rev. G. T. Carey, in the absence of the Rev. J. Dunn, reports that Col. Robinson and W. Robinson, Esq. bate been elected Lay Deputies by this Committee. He regrets that so little can be done this year in conieqoence of the sudden fall in' the price of Timber ; besides which it has been found necessary to expend considerable sums upon local objects. He mentions these circumstances as an apology for the smallness of the present contributions, and hopes the people wiH contribute more largely in future. He reports Subscriptions to the amount of £2 5s. and Collection in Oct. 1847, of £2, and another on Jan^ 23, 1848, of 19s. 7j^d. making a total of £5 4s. 7^d. Frbdi^rIctoii.— The Yen. Archdeacon Coster transmits several resolutions passed at meetings t)f this Local Committee on the desirableness of maintaining the Depositories of the Society in an efficient state, and of holding semi-annual meetings of itoembers of the Church for the purpose of promoting a missionary spirit, imparting information, and furthering the objects of tho Church Society. Also resolutions expressing their satisfaction at the merease of the contributions on the part of the Committee as indicating a growing interest in the prosperity of the Society. He states that John Wilkiuion and J. C. Allen, Esqrs. are the Lay Deputies, atad that the Subscriptions amount to £153 2s. 8d., making with the Collection at the Sermon in July £19 7s., and that on Jan. 28, £21 68. Id., and one in St. Anne's Chapel or£l 13s. 4d.— a total of £195 98. Id. Gagitown. — Rev. N. A. Coster. This Committee return thasits ibr the last year's grant of Books, being led to hope from the great use made of the Lending Library that it is a means of difiusing much useful information in the Parieh ; and also for the grant towards the Parsonage House. T. R. Wetmore and D. S. Kerr, Esqrs. were elected Lay Deputies. The Rev. N. A. Coster reports thst the Subscriptions amount to £12 17s. 9d. and that the Collection at one of the two semi-annual Sermons was 16s. i^i.— making a total of £13 14s. 6d. GLRifn.o. — Rev. J. That the sum of £300, together with the amount of the Limitations to that object, viz. £3 3s., be added to the " Mis- sionary Visits" Fond. * 3d.
