Read letters from the Ven. the Society for t* i Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts, and the Lord Bishop of Nova Scotia, on the subject of the Travelling Missionary for the Church Society ; and the Archdeacon having stated that the Rev. Alex- ander D. Campbell had come out for that employment, it was Resolved, That the Archdeacon be requested to direct Mr. Campbell to travel during the months of October and November in the County of Carleton, and to furnish him with instructions for his government, and to inform him that the actual expences of his travelling will be paid by the Treasurer on demand. Resolved, That Mr. Campbell be required to keep a journal of his proceedings, and to present the same to the Archdeacon at the close of his tour, for the exclusive use of the Society, to be published only under their direction. Resolved, That the Treasurer be authorized to make an ad vance to Mr. Campbell, to meet his expences. Read letters from the Lord Bishop and the Rev. James Hudson, stating that Mr. Hudson had boen appointed by the So- ciety for the Propagation of the Gospel, Visiting Missionary on the Miramichi River, in the hope that the Church Society would contribute to his travelling expences : It was Resolved, That the Archdeacon be requested to communicate with Mr. Hudson, and ask for further information with respect to that appointment. Resolved, That the Committee do adjourn to Wednesday next, 23d inst., to meet after Divine Service. Adjourned. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1840. PRESENT. The Ven. the Archdeacon, V. P. The Rev. S. D. PRESENT. Tho Ven. the Archdeacon, V. P. The Rev. J. M. Stirling, As. Seff. The Hon. G. F. Street, V. P. George Botsford, Esq., W. J. Bedell, Esq., Treasurer, Charles P. Wetraore, Esq. The Archdeacon stated that tho Rev. A. D. Campbell had, with the consent of the Lord Bishop, relinqaisbed his appoint- ment of Travelling Missionary, without having visited the Coun- ty of Carleton, agreeat)ty to the af rangemefits made at the last Moetine : and repeated some ot}sor\'ations made to him by his X^ordsbip updn the proceeidings of the last two Meetings of this Committee. Thereupon, it was Resolved, That the Committee afe satisfied that the direction of the Travelling Missionaries ought to be left wholly to the Ec- clesiastical authorities. They think it reasonable, however, that each Travelling Missionary, whosd expences shall be paid by the Church Society, should be requited to keep a journal of his proceedings, to be presented, when called for, to the Archdeacon, in order that the Society may have the means of being certified that the object of its appropriations for this purpose is in a due degree obtained : and they hope and believe that the Bishop, in the behalf of. the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, will never appoint to the ofiice of Travelling Missionary (so as to put a charge upon the funds of the Church Society.) any clergyman who shall not declare himself friendly to the Church Society, and determined to use his influence for promoting its objects and increasing its means of usefulness ; nor retain any clergyman in such emplov- ment at their expence, after he shall have manifested an unwil- lingness so to do. That the Rev. J. S. Thomson having been appointed a Tra- velling Missionary by the Lord Bishop, the Committee undertake to pay such expences as the Archdeacon shall report to have been incurred by Mr. Thomson, previous to the next General Meeting.
