 assiduously devote ourselves to the advancement of the

 not only as Christians, but also as citizens, to endeavor 
 to rescue a portion of these from such an awful doom. 
 Let us combine our efforts that they may be more 
 efficient. Let us not rest satisfied until we obtain com- 
 plete prohibition of the fearful Traffic. Let us never 
 lorget that success ultimately awaits us. Our cause is 
 the cause of truth, and right, and therefore, it must 
 eventually triumph. Greater is he that is for us, than 
 all they who are against us. May our God bleds and 
 prosper our efforts and may His Spirit direct and guide 
 us in all our deliberations.

 which you are about to assume. Weigh well their 
 importance. Permit me briefly to specify some of the 
 duties of your respective offices. 
 
 Bro. Prov. Sentinel. It ia your duty to guard the 
 door and see that none enter or retire, except those duly 
 authorized. You will also perform such duties as may 
 be required of you in the working of the Club. 
 
 Bro. Prov. Messenger. It is your duty to perform 
 the part assigned you in the openijcr; and initiatory 
 services, to take charge of all the property of the Club 
 not entrusted to others, and at the close of the session 
 to see that all property is safely '.i ijusted. 
 
 Bro. Prov. Sec. and Treasurer. It ia your duty as 
 Sec. to keep a faithful record of the proceedings of 
 Prov. Club, to be in readiness to read such record when 
 called upon by the Prov, S. 0. to conduct its corres^ 
 pondence, and to perform any other duty which natur- 
 ally pertains to your office. 
 
 It will also devolve upon you as Treasurer to take 
 charge of all the funds, to keep a correct account of all 
 receipts and disbursements, and at each meeting of 
 Prov. Club to present a written report of the state of 
 finances. 
 
 Bro. Prov. Chaplain. It is your duty to attend the 
 meetings of Prov. Club, to conduct the opening and 
 closing solemnities, and to take an important part in the 
 initiatory services. Strive, therefore, both by example 
 and precept, to inculcate the principles of our organiza- 
 tion. 
 
 Bro. Prov. Junior Observer. It is your duty to aid 
 the P. S. 0. by counsel and otherwise, and in the event 
 of his absence or inability, to perform all the duties of 
 his office. 
 
 Bro. Prov. Senior Observer. It is your duty'to preside 
 in the Prov. Club, and in virtue O/ your office you have

 vices are under your direction. The preservation of the 
 Constitution and Bye-Laws inviolate, the institution of 
 new Clubs, and the maintenance of order in the body 
 politic are by no means the least important of your 
 duties. Skill and fidelity are particularly required at 
 your hands. 
 
 Such, brothers, is the nature of your official obliga- 
 tions. Consider well their importance. Be not hasty 
 to assume responsibility; but when duty requires it be 
 prompt to act. Presuming, therefore, that you who 
 now stand bsfore me are prepared for the discharge of 
 duty, I wish your assent to the following obligation :
