 the office of Mr. James Tasker, 180 St. James Street, Montreal,

 The Chairman in suitable terms adfhessed a few iiartin-

 past fourteen years: for the confidence they liad reposed in 
 him ; for their hearty co-operation in the management of the 
 affairs of the Corporation, i.iid for their uniform kindness and 
 courtesy to him.self ; expressing his regret that their official 
 relations to one another and to the Beneficiaries were so soon 
 to terminate, and his hearty thanks for the v.duable services 
 they had rendered to the lioard and the Church in devoting so 
 much time and thought to the business entrusted to them. " 
 
 He thanked the members of the Executive Committee and 
 the Secretary-Treasurer for the .,kill and prudence they had 
 shown m carrying out the details of administration, and Mr. 
 John L. Morris for his invaluable services as Solicitor of th" 
 Board. 
 
 Mr. Morris, Dr. Campbell, Mr. Burnet and Mr. Macdonnell, 
 in response to the Chairman's remarks, in their own behalf, aa 
 well as in the name of the other members of the Board, testified

 In proposing the health of the Chairman of the Board Mr 
 Croil said it would simply be a waste of words to expand upon 
 him. His reputation as a man of business was co-extensive 
 with our wide Dominion. Wi;erever the name of Alexander 
 Macpherson was known it stood for everything that is lovely 
 and of good report. As the Chairman of the Temporalities' 
 Board he had earned t! a golden opinions of its members an.l 
 of all the B'neliciaries. 
 
 "We wish him long life, health and happiness; prosperity

 Beneficiaries shewing how unanimously and cordially they had 
 responded to the proposal After expressing his ovn senti- 
 ments in affectionate and appreciative terias, lie requested Rev. 
 Dr. MacNish to read the address prepared for the occa.»ion, to 
 wli'ch the reverend gentleman added 'ords of kindly greeting 
 from his own warm Highland heart.

 "And among the kymen who have rendered important service 
 to the Board and the Cliurch at large we recall names of equal 
 eminence— Sir Huj;h Allan— the man who did more, perha^ia, 
 than any of his contemporaries to promote the commiircial 
 interests of Canada ; who also f.iimd time to devote to the inter- 
 ests of the Church of hi« choice ; and Thomas I'aton, gifted with 
 exceptional financial ability, whose admirable qualities of head 
 and heart gained for him the enviable sobriquet of Nathaniel 
 — " An Israelite, indeed, in whom is no guile " ; and John 
 Oreenshields, the exemplary Elder and, par excellence, '■ The 
 ministers' friend"— a member of the B..Hrd from its inception 
 till the day he died, whose time, influence and money nert 
 given without stint to maintiin and extend its usefulness; and 
 Hon. Alexander Morris, the eminent juiist and far-seeing 
 statesman; the genial and wise Judge Dennistoun, too, of 
 Peterborough ; and William Darling, of Montreal— long a mem- 
 ber of the Board and during ten years its Chairman, whose 
 aptitude for business was not more conspicuous than his readi- 
 ness at all times to make it subservient to the interests of the 
 Fund and all connected with it ; and James Michie, of Toronto, 
 the princely philanthropist — in his muniticent benefactions to 
 this and other Boards and benevolent agencies—" The noblest 
 Roman of them all." Notable men all of them were, whose 
 names will be had in everlasting remembrance. They rest from 
 their labours, " and their works do follow them." 
 
 Speaking to the toast of "Absent Friends," Mr. Macdonnell 
 in well-chosen words referred to the valued services respect- 
 ively rendered by Mr. Andrew Allan, for some years Chairman 
 of the Board, Mr. D. B. Maclennan, and Eev. Dr. Eoss who, 
 though unavoidably prevented from taking part in these pro- 
 ceedings, were, he felt sure, in full sympathy with what had 
 been said and done. And then . . . there had but to be 
 spoken the last word— FAREWELL '
