 I have the honor to inform you that the iith Military District Riflt? Association has 
 been formed, and that ColonelThomson, the Commandant of the District, is the I'resident; 
 tlie \'ice-l*residents are the Mayor of Toronto, tiic Wardens of tlie Counties of N'ork and 
 Peel, Simcoe and Ontario, the Sheriffs of the saiu (bounties respectively, and the Com- 
 mandant of the Active Force or Volunteers. A cnuncil has also been appointed, consist- 
 ing of the Lieutenant-Colonels of the several Battalions of the Sedentary Militia, the 
 Lientenant-Colonel of the 2nd Battalion \'olunt.eers and the Captains of Troops of Cavalry 
 Batteries ot Artillery or Companies of N'olunteer Rifles, together with the Members of 
 the I^'gislative Council, and of the Legislative Assembly, resident within the said 
 Military District, and raveral other influential gentlemen therein. 
 
 The objects of the Association are for the encouragment of the Rifle Carps, and for 
 the promotion of Rifle Shooting, by raising subscriptions to l)e distributed in prizes, at 
 meetings to be held from time to time, fhe first meeting for competition for prizes will 
 commence on the 10th day of October ne.vt, at 1 1 a. m„ and be continued on the following 
 day at a. m., at Toronto, when the following prizes will be shot for: 
 
 No. 1. A sweepstake, of one dollar entrance, with added by the Association. 
 
 Ranges, I.IO, 200, 250, .'SOD yards, three rounds at each range. Open to all comers — \ to 
 to best shot, three-fifths of remainder to second best, and two-fifths to third best, — any 
 descrij)tion of Rifle. No hair triggei-s, globe or magnifying sights allowed. Minimum 
 puli of Knfield, six lbs., all others three lbs. All scoring to be by points. 
 
 No 2. Two prizes of sixty and thirty dollars each — open to Voluntoei's only. 
 Entrance Is. 3d. ; Range 400 yards, five rounds; best shot sixty, second best thirty. 
 
 No. 3. Merchants' prize — eighty dollars, open to all coiners, any description of Rifle ; 
 Kntrance 2s. 6d. ; Range 250 yards, five rounds. 
 
 No. 4. Open to Volunteers only, no entrance; Range 600 yards, five rounds. Two 
 prizes, best shot sixty, second best forty dollars. 
 
 SECOND DAY. 
 
 No. I. Silver Medal of the Association, open to ^lembers only, TiOO yards, five 
 rounds ; no entrance charged. 
 
 No. 2. Ladies' purse of 2 prizes, 1st., of dollars, for Volunteers, 2nd., of equal 
 
 amount for members not Volunteers; Range oOO yards, five rounds; no entrance charged . 
 
 No. 3. All Service Prizes. Open to the Regular Troops, Volunteers, Enrolled Men of 
 the Sedeutury Militia, Pensioners and Police. Entrance 2s. 6d. ; Ranges 700 and 
 900 yards, five rounds at each ; best shot one hundred dollars, second best fifty dollare. 
 
 No. 4. The Marston Prize. Open to all Membere of the Association ; no entrance 
 charged ; Range 400 yards, 5 rounds. A Rifle, value fifty dollars, sighted to the longest 
 ranges ; presented by Mr. W. P. Marston, Gun Maker of this City, with case <fec., complete. 
 
 Subscription Lists have been sent to the OflScers in command of Militia Regiments, 
 or of independent companies, and they are requested to ask from the OflScers and Non- 
 commissioned Oflficers of their respective Battalions and Companies, subscriptions, according 
 to their relative rank — a sum which would be equal to one day's pay, were they on service. 
 viz: Lieutenant-Colonels, 17s.; Majors, 16s.; Captains, lis. 7d.; Lieutenants, 6s. 6d. En- 
 signs, 5s. 3d. ; Rank and File, Is. Sterling each. Militia OflScers, Non-Commissioncd 
 OflScers and enroll^ men, (that is such men as have their names dnly enrolled on the 
 Companies List of their respective Battalions), upon the payment of the above sums res- 
 pectively, will become members of the Association, and will be allowed to compete for 
 the prizes on the most favorable terms, while all others competing will be looked upon as 
 amongst those styled " all comers."
