The object of this Institute is to supply its members with means of instruction, in Science, Literature and the Arts, by the es- tablishment of a Reading; Room and Library, for the use of its mem- bers, the delivery of Lectures, the institution of Classes, and the pr- viduig of Specimens and Drawings. All discussions on Controversial Divinity, Party Politics, and Local Controversy, are strictly excluded. Admission and Contribution of Members. Any employee may l)ecome a member by the recommendation of two members, and the approval of the Committee, by the payment of ten cents per month, in advance, the recommendation to be deliv- ered to the Secretary, shall produce it at the next meeting of the Committee, or Sub-Committee, who shall meet once a fortnight. .'\n annual subscription of one dollar paid in advance will entitle the member to the full Ijcnefits for one year. Members' (!ards are not transferable ; and any member lending his card for the purpose of introducing a person not a member o( the Institute to any of the meetings or privileges, shall upon proof, be fined 25 cents, and be excluded from all privileges till the fine be paid. No member under the age of eighteen years can vote at anv election or meeting, or nominate a member for office. Catalogues of the Books contained in the Library shall be placed for reference in the Reading Root::, which shall be scientific- ally arranged.
