SWEATMAN, M.A., AS |tii6ifto)r o( I0rant0, OK Thursday, the 1st Day of May, A.D. 187&. •■( THIS DAY, being the Festival of the Holy Apostles Sr. Philip and St. James, having been appointed for the Consecration of the Bishop elect of the Diocese of Toronto, and all things being in order : Morning Prayer will be said in the Cathedral Church of St. James, Toronto, at the hour of 9:30 a.m. The Order of Morning Prayer to the Lessons will be read by the Rev. Canon Stennett. The Lessons will be read by the Rev. Canons Brent and Morian. The Psalms and Te, Deuin will be sungl)y the Choir, Clergy, and Congregation. The Prayers will be said by the Rev. Canon Oslbr to the end of the third Collect. At this point there will be an interval until 11 A.M< The Clergy will meet at St. James's Parochial School House at 10:45 A.M., from whence a Procession will be formed, and at 11 o'olook move to the Cathedral in the following order : — The Verger. I Lay Delegates of the Synod. The Clergy in Surplices and Hoods. The. Venerable the Archdeacons of York and Peterborough. The Very Rev. The Dean. f^e $»l^op (Bittt, Attended by his Chaplains. The Bishops. 2 At the south door of the Cathedral the Procession will open out and enter in reverse order, The Right Reverend the Prelates going first, The Lord Bishop of Ontario, as the Presiding Prelate and Consecrator, preceded by his Verger, leading the same up the centre aisle, the whole congregation rising, and an appro- priate Voluntary being performed on the organ. The Lord Bishop of Ontario, as Presiding Prelate and Consecrator, will assume his chair at the not th side of the altar — the assisting Prelates sitting on either nide —the following Clergy having also seats within the Chancel : — The Very Rev. 'i he Dean in his stall, the Venerable the Archdeacons of York and Peterborough. In the Chancel immediately without the rails there will be seats to the right for the Venerable the Bishop Elect and his Chaplain, and on the left for the Chancellor and Registrar of the Diocese. The other Clergy will occupy seats adjacent to the Chancel, and in the front pews. The Hymn, "The Church's one Foundation," will then be sung, and the Service of *' The Ordaining or Consecrating of a Bishop " will then be proceeded with as follows : — The Sermon will be preached by the Lord Bishop of Huron. At the conclusion of the Sermon the following hymn will be sung by the Choir : — Spirit of the living God ! In all Thy plenitude of grace, Where'er the foot of man hath trod Descend upon our fallen race ! Give tongues of fire and hearts of love To preach the reconciling word ; Give power and unction from above Where'er the joyful sound is heard. O Spirit of the Lord ! prepare The wide-spread earth her God to meet ; Breathe Thou abroad like morning air, Till hearts of stone begin to beat. Baptize the nations ; far and nigh The triumph of the cross record ; The name of Jesus glorify, Till every kindred call Him Lord. God from eternity hath will'd » All flesh shall His salvation see ; So be the Father's love fulfilled. The Saviour's sufi'erings crowned through Thee. The Bishop Elect (vested with his Rochet) will then be presented to the Bishop of Ontario, as Consecrator, sitting in his chair, the presenting Bishops saying :— " Right Reverend Father in God ! We present unto you this godly and well- learned man to be ordained and consecrated Bishop. " Whereupon the Bishop Consecrator will demand to have the authority for the Consecration produced, and the same will be read by the Chancellor, I\' i The following Anthem will be here sung by the Choir : — ANTHEM— Psalm cv. 1, 2, 3. -Dr. Elvey. Full. — 1, Ogive thanks unto the Lord and call upoA his name : tell the people what things he hath done. Verxe — Four Voices — 2. let your songs be of him, and praise him : and let your talking be of all his wondrous works. FhU. — 3. Rejoice in his holy Name : let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord." The congregation being then moved to prayer, one of the Bishops will say the Litany, with the proper suffrage and following prayers, as set forth in the Conse- cration Service. The Presiding Bishop, sitting in his chair, will then administer to the Bishop Elect the solemn formula of questions prescribed by the Consecration Service, which being duly answered, and the prayer following those questions having been offered up in his behalf, the following Anthem will be sung : — ANTHEM.— Psalm xxxviii. 7, 4, 5, I, and Psalm Iv. 23. — Mendelssohn. Solo. — rest in the Lord, wait patiently for Him, and he shall give thee thy heart's desire : commit thy way unto Him, and trust in Him, and fret not thyself because of evil doers. Choral. — Cast thy burden upon the Lord, And He shall sustain thee ; He will never suffer the righteous to fall ; He is at thy right hand. Thy mercj'. Lord, is great, And far above the Heavens ; Let none be made ashamed, That wait upon Thee. The Bishop Elect having assumed the rest of the Episcopal habit, and kneel- ing down, Veni Creator Spirltm will be said over him, the Bishop of Ontario, as Con- secrator, beginning, and the Bishops, with others present, answering by verses, the solemn Service being concluded by the laying on of the hands of the Right Reverend the Consecrator and of the other Bishops and the delivery to the Consecrated Bishop of the Holy Bible with the prescribed exhortation. The Holy Communion will then be administered. The Offertory Sentences and the " Prayer for the whole state of Christ's Church Militant here on Earth," will be read by the Bishop of Toronto. The ** Absolu* tion " v/ill be pronounced by the Presiding Bishop. The Presiding Bishop will then pronounce the Benediction. The Offertory on this occasion will be devoted to the Mission Fund of tha J)iocese. Seats in the centre aisle will be reserved for the Lay Delegates of Synod immediately behind those reserved for the Clergy.
