The Executive Committee of the (Jliiirch Assjciatioii bog leave to submit to its Members a stutemetit of tlie work in which tliev are engaf, eil, and in furtherance of which contributions are in- vited from all friends of Evan^'clicil Truth who desire to main- tain the Church of England in its integrity and |»urity as a " Protestant Church. 1. The Protestant and Evangelical Divinity School, for train- ing young men of earnest piety and sound evangelical principles, for Holy Orders, specially merits the ^varnicit sympathy and encourageu)ent. The L'cv. J. P. Sheraton, M.A., a clergyman of approved piety and learning, has entered on his duties as Principal, at a salary of $1,500 per annum. The school at jires- ent imnibers ten young men, prc^paring for the Ministry, to six of whom a scholarship of $120 per annum is paid, amounting in all to $720 ; and applications from three others are now under Consideration. No obJ3ct calls for more earnest prayer, along with a cheerful contribution of the funds requisite to place the Divinity School on a permanent footin;. i*'. o 2. At the request of the Lord Bishop oU the Diocese, the Association has undertaken to aid Missions within the Diocese held by Evangelical Clergymen ; and engagements have thus far been entered into, with the concurrence of the Bishop, to the extent of $1,800 per annum. ANGLICAN CHURCH O^^^^ GENERAL SYNOD, ARCHU.S 3. The '* Evangelical (■HuiicnMAN," an organ of sound Pro- testant and evangelical teaching, after an . experience of nearly two years, has met with a success hitherto unequalled by any re- ligious newspaper in Canada. Already letters have been received from the authorities of the sister Church, in the United States, representing the J^oards of the American Church Missionary Society, and the Evangelical Education Society, of New York, and of Pliiladelphia ; not only commending the papor in high terms, but expressing a desire that the " Evangelical Church- man " may be made the medium for disseminating Evangelical principles, and Church and Missionary information throughout the United States. All the mora urgent is the call on every sound Protestant churchman in Canada to promote its circulation throughout the Dominion. The Executive Committee accordingly earnestly invite the members of the Church Association, and all friends of Evangeli- cal Truth : — To make those various branches of the work now undoitakcn, the subjects of earnest prayer. To give practical evidence of their sympathy in the good work by subscribing to the several objects, according to their ability. To pay promptly the annual subscription of $1, due by each member of the Association. To induce all who are in sympathy with the good work to be- come members of the Association ; and subscribers to the " Evan- gelical Churchman." Members, especfally in the country, are apt to regard their in- dividual Dollar, as a trifle ; but united action is the truest source of strength, and nothing is more encouraging evidence of a wide- spread sympathy in the good work than the prompt response of all members to the annual call for their subscription. Ah compared with other Churches, the amount annually aub- scribed by merabcra of the Church of England in this Diocese for religious purposes, is small. 'J'his has unquestionably origin- ated, in part at least, from niany conscientiously withholding their contributions from woik which they could not view as soundly Evangelical and Protestant. Now, however, that all Evangelical Protestant Churchmen have the opportunity afforded to them of co-operating in the work of their own Church, in full accordance with their principles, it is earnestly hoped that such a manifestation of Christian liberality will result, as shall suffice to remove the stigma of grudging and inadequate response to the claims of Christ and His Church. The true practical evidence that Evangelical Churchmen are in earnest, will be best furnished by the heany response in the form of contributions to the above Church schemes of not less than $10,000 per annum.
