So much for the financial position of the Society, and now a word or two as respects its objects. These are very important. The Society in addition to the business usually transacted by Life Assurance Companies, is specially constituted to prant Bonds of Indemnity to Bankers, Mer- chants, Public Companies, Municipal Corporations, and others against Losses occasioned by the infidelity of their Employees. As far as regards Employers, the Society offers great advanta- ges, inasmuch as it not only secures to them the i)rompt payment of any loss sustained, but Rifords the menns of avoiding the comparative uncertainty attending on private suretyships. To Employees the Society itresents the advantage of enabling them to obviate the unpleasant necessity of resorting to tlieir personal friends, and enabling them, by the payment of a small annual premium, to bo their own independent sureties. To Bondsmen, the Society affords, in approved cases, the means of immediate release from the liability undci which they have placed themselves or their estates after them, by the substitution of the Society's Bonds for existing suretyships. This system of Guarantee has been thoroughly tested by the Mercantile communi- ties in Great Britain and most of her Colonies, the various Departments of the Imperial Govern- ment, in addition, being authorized by special act of the Imperial Parliament, to accept the Bonds of this Society oiili/. The Life Department presents many advantages to Assurers. For example :— All Life Policies issued upon the faithful representations of Assurers are indisputable. Policies, on wl.ich five full premiums have been paid, are purchased by the Society. On Policies for over X200 stg., for the whole of life, one half the premiums for first five years may remain unpaid at interest of five per cent, per annum ; Three-fourths of the entire profits of the Society are divis- able amongst the Life Policy holders on the profit scale of premiums. And last, but not least, all claims. Life or Guarantee, are paid without reference to London. The combination of Life Assurance with Guarantee, is a feature entirely new, and at the same time, remarkably advantageous. The scheme was introduced by this Society, and is trans- acted solely by them. To the Employee, who requires to give security, the opportunity is thus afforded him of assur- ing his Life, and thereby becoming his own surety without 00— the Bond of Security will be granted free, and he will yet participate in the profits of the Society. Thus, by the one payment for Life Assurance, he acquires three gi-ent objects :— 1st, he secures himself the position he desires ; 2d, he secures his family a provision in case of his death, and thirdly, he relieves himself of that most unpleasant relationship— a pecuniary obligation to his friends. Or again it may appenr in another light :— A person takes out a Policy cf Life Assurance for say XIOOO. He may at some future time require to give a Bond of Security for perhaps jGoOO, he has not to look to his friends, the Society is ready to grant that Bond free of ami expense whatever. How- ever, perhaps he may never require a Bond of Security for himself, but he may have a ion or a brother who might wish for that obligation —then again is the utility of the Society manifested— he can transfer his right of security to either. In fiict, the holder of a Life Policy in this Society has in his power the disposal of the Society's security to a proportionate amount, atary time, without any extra charge being imposed upon him. This is truly a branch in Life Assurance which cannot fail to tell its own tale. In October, 1863, the Society established a branch in Canada, and such has been the appre- ciation of its principles, that it has met with a success much beyond its expectations. Most of the Banks, Railways and Public Companies in Canada have already adopted its Bonds in lieu of private security, and in addition, the Provincial Parliament last session passed an Act authorizing the Society's Bonds to bo accepted as security from officers in all Departments under Government. The Board of Directors in Canada, are men of high standing and responsibility, as may bo seen by a glance at the Society's Prospectus. HEAD OFFICE IN CANADA, 69 GREAT ST.
