It forms an erect, nearly straight, cylindrical tube, about 20 nun. long and d-5 mm. in diameter, terminating above in an osculum provided with a short peristome; the wall of the tube i.s about 0-83 mm. in thi.kness. ( '..lour in spirit 1> ht brownish-grey, texture soft and fragile. The- is a thin dermal cortex, about 00G5 mm. in ihieknc'.. an.l a verv shght p .,ral cortex about OOo mm. in thickness. There are thn>e spirit and ten dried specimens in the collection. .\ll are funnel-shaped, resembling!; closely specimens descrilied and fijiured by Vosmaer and Fevinsen, and raufjinp from 25 to 130 mm. in total height. The colour in si)irit is browni.sh grey; that of the dried specimens varies from dark brown to almost white. Texture soft 'and flexible. The skeh'ton arrangement and .spiculation are typical.. Becu'.ise of the absence of trichodragmata we propose to remove this sponge fnmi the genus Tm(i().- plane, measuring 30 liy 27 by 14 mm.: H..N. IV, which is dull grevish brown in colour, forms an irregular mass growmg round a seaweed; R.X. XII consists of two minute, sub-spherical specmiens, 6 J Ctinadian Arctic Exixdilion, Wl3-tS iiiall bivalve mollusc-shell; U.N. II, from th( jrrcv in colour, srowing on a - . . • , n stomach of an Kriqunthits barbnlns T.i inches lonR, consists of eight small speci- mens yellow in colour (orantje when first obtained), irregularly rounded and flattened in shape, the largest measuring M by 20 by ti mm.; U.N. VIII consists of a number of grevish, semi-digested fragments from the stomach of antngnathwi harbahis; these were of a dark-green or orange-brown colour when first obtained. The surface of all the specimens is smooth ami even; neither inhalant pores nor oscula are visible. Textun firm, elastic and compact. The skeleton consists of tvlostyles, densely packed and arranged in great confusion; there is a very opaque outer layer in which the centrotylote microxea form an almost solid mass. .S»)cu/ps.-{l) Tvlostvles. Tsuallv slightly curved, varying little in size, and measuring up t()'0-57 by 0009 mm. In most cases the head is not very marked, and some of them tend to iiecome stylote. (2) Ccntrotvlote microxea. Sometimes minutely spined or roughened; the typical ones "measure up to 007 by 0003 mm., but there are many smaller and more irregular forms. Northwest Territories, August 17, 1904, (Xeptune expedition, A. Ilalkctt coll.). Polymastia mammillaris (0. F. Mueller) Bwbk. (For discussion and synonymy vide Topsent (1900)). There are two much flattened.disc-shaped specimens in the collection; Trichostemma-Wkc, with marginal fringe of long spicules. The larger, (U.N.I. a), which has a small pebble attached to the middle of the under surface, and numerous teat-like projections on the upper surface, measures 63 mm. in dia- meter and 5 mm. in thickness. The smaller (U.N.I, b) is attached to a shell and measures onlv 23 mm. in diameter and 3 mm. in thickness. The colour in spirit is dark vellowish grey; in life it was "grey-yellow, with the spine-brushes more strongly yellow-brown" (Johansen). The skeleton ar- rangement and spiculation agree closely with those of specimens described by Vosmaer and Topsent.
