OF NOVA SCOTIA, The descendants of the Loyalists of the American Revolution are at present scattered throughout the Dominion of Canada, and else- where. Very few, if any, are now residing upon the lands granted by the Crown to their ancestors. Within the last few years Loyalist Associations have been formed in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick. The initial meeting of a similar Nova Scotian society was held at Halifax on May 11th, 1897, when the Hon. Alfred G. Jones (a loyalist of the third generation) was called to the chair and unani- mously elected President. Although this Society has been organized in Halifax, it is far from its wish to confine its membership to that city. It is essentially provincial, and not only is the membership of all persons of Loyalist descent throughout the province earnestly desired, but also their co-operation in collecting, and saving from destruction, maiuiscripts and traditions, — in a word, anything and everything tliat will throw light upon our Loyalist history and lineage, individually and collec- tively. Papers and letters sent the Association will be read at its meetings, and after being discussed, will be filed by the Historian for publication or preservation among the Society's archives. OBJECTS OF THE ASSOCIATION. 1st. — To perpetuate the memory and principles of our Loyalist forefathers by bringing their descendants into closer relationship with one another. 2 2nd. — To foster a spirit of loyalty to the Empire amoiiR the people of Canada, reminding them that although they are Canadians yet they are first iiml foremost British subjects. 3rd. — To rescue from oblivion letters and other documents of an historical character, and to collect and write down, ere it is too Into, oral traditions of the United Empire Loyalists and their times. Members may be admitted by the Standing Committee by a unanimous vote at a meeting of that Committee, the notice of which shall specify the name of the candidate. Every present member and every person applying for membership, shall send to the Historian of the Society a written statement of quali- fication, containing the name and full particulars, as far as possible, of Loyalist ancestor, and the names of those through whoirj descent is traced. If the Standing Committee finds this statement satisfac- tory, it shall be filed by the Historian, and a certificate of approval and membership given to the person upon payment of the first annual fee. Dues. — Every member, or associate member, on or before the annual meeting in each year, shall pay a fee of one dollar to the Treasurer, and in default of such payment shall be disqualified from being elected to any office, or of voting at any meeting.
