 addition of long hair-the average violoncellist depends for much of his effect."

 "Not for some time have the music-levers ol Ottawa l)een treated to a more 
 inspiriting and satisfyiiiE recital than was offered by Mr. Henry .S. Saunders, 
 the violoncellist, at Orme's hall yesterday afternoon. Mr. Saunders played eight 
 numbers, with rare skill, his interpretation in each instance being marked by 
 refinement of conception, smoothness of execution and superb beauty of tone."

 "Watkin Mills is a host in himself, but he is assisted inthe.se recitals by Mr. 
 Henry S. Saunders, violoncellist, whose reception last night was scarcely less 
 enthusiastic than that of the great artist himself. Mr. .Saunders played with 
 delicacy and sentiment, displaying thorough technique and musical feeling. He 
 had three numbers on the programme, and two were encored."

 "The violoncello recital given on Tuesday afternoon by Mr. Henry S. Saun- 
 ders, under the auspices of the Ottawa Conservatory of Music, was quite an 
 exceptional event. Though the recitpl was not planneduntil the morning previous, 
 the interest attracted by it was sufficient to bring together on a few hours' notice 
 an audience that filled tlie hall and included very many of the leading patrons of 
 musical art in Ottawa. Mr. Saunders played eight compositions in varied styles, 
 showing himsell to be an executant of unusual ability and an artist whose concep- 
 tion of music is both poetical and manly. The hearty and unstinted applause of 
 the audience gave evidence of their keen enjoyment of the recital throughout."

 "Of the 'cellist, Mr. Saunders, nothing but praise was heard, and Poppers' 
 'Spinning Song,' with its executive enormiiies, brought down the house. "
