Elgin Street. 88c I i of who The ob friends noblv a ces at t to be [ by regi service Territoi tion to humbly the vok PREFACE. [Y kind permission I am allowed the honour of dedicating this §|g» little work, ''Our Volunteers in the North-West, " to the Hon. !^Ir. A. P. Caron, Minister of Militia of the Dominion, a gentleman of whom it may be said — " He dares do all that may become a man, Who dares do more, is none." The object of my labour has been to perpetuate amongst their friends and the public, the names of those brave men who have so nobly answered to the call to arms and placed their lives and servi- ces at the disposal of their Queen and country. The work purports to be a list of the officers, non-commissioned officers and men, by regiments, troops, batteries, and companies, now on active service in quelling the unhappy disturbances in the North- West Territories of the Dominion of Canada. I have taken every precau- tion to obtain reliable information from headquarters of corps, and humbly trust my efforts will meet with the approval and support of the volunteers and the public generally. If you arc u profpssional man, so thoroughly overworked that every montal efTort is attended with a sense of weariness followed by neadache and n.oreor less severe nervous prostration— take Phosphati.ne every d-iy for a week oi-more. If you find tl)at you are unable to sleep nights, and though physieally tired are wakeful, and your business is ui'])ermost in your mind, and you cannot for awhile rid yourself of its cires and perplexities — take Phosj-hatine in the same way for a month or more. If you are aftlicted with neuralgia, and the cause is evidently some dis- turbance of the digestive functio is, accompanied by obstinate constipation — take on the first night of treatment, a dose ol compound rhubarb pill, to dis- lodg^ all obstructions, and then, for as long as it seems necest^ary, make use of PuospiiATiNK, just after meals. If you are alflicted almost daily with nervous headache, Phospiiatine is what you need, most decidedly. If, after smoking, you su '"er any immediate ill consequences, you may easily counteract them, as well as neutralize the absorption of the nicotine, by swallowing a dessert spoonful of Puosphatine diluted with water. So striking is the power of Phosphatine to calm nervous excitement and overcome nervous pre stration, that many people have suj)j)Osed it to contain opium in some form, but this is entirely a mistake. LOWDEN & CO., Agents, 55 Front St. East, Toronto. What the Eev. A. T. &reen, of Fort Hope, has to say. NOTMAN pad CO., Toronto. Port Hope, Octol)er 31st, 1SP3. Gestlkmbn',— For a long time my stomacli and liver have troubled me very much, and for eijfhtcen months I have had chronic inflannuatlon of the liver, durinjj: which tiine I constantly grew worse luitil I was confined to my bed for weeks, havin^jf chills and fever three or four times each day. My skin was yellow. My stomach ceased to act, and I wasted away to a mere skeleton. Medical men were unable to heli> me. Patent medicines did me no good. On the 25th of July, wnen my frienils as well as myself had given uj) hope, I was persuaded to try one of your Pads. In three days it cured the chills and fever, and made mo feel much better. This improvement continued until I felt cjuite well in every way except my stomt.ch, which, though m(;nding iuid better than it has been for years, is not entirely cured. From my exi)erietice, and what I huve heard of your Pads, I strongly recommend them to all suffering from troubles of the stomach, liver, or bowels. REV. A. T. GREEN, Methodist Minister.
