Scott, M.D., attending Physician to the Mon- treal General Hospital and Lecturer on Forensic Medicine at the University of McGill College, and T. Walter Jones, Lecturer on Anatomy at the St. Lawrence School of Medicine, — have freely given their testimony in favor of these waters and recommend them as highly efficacious in the cure of Rheumatism, Dyspepsia, Constipation of the Bowels, caused by sedentary habits or old age, Dizziness, Headache, Heartburn, proceeding fn a derang- ed digestion, Scrofula, derangement of the Urinary Organs, Fevers, allaying inordinate thirst and producing beneficial results from their tonic and laxa- tive action. Impurities of the Blood and Dyspeptic ailments of various types as an aperient antacid and diuretic, and in allaying gastric derangement attendant upon the early months of pregnancy, these waters are highly re- commended. Having witnessed their beneficial and curative effects in various diseases, which have come under their professional notice, these Gentlemen, eminent in their profession, have cheerfully given their testimony to the public; many inhabitants too, who reside in the vicinity of the Springs and in various parte of the Province, of the highest respectability, who have used the waters for a long time, speak in terms of the highest praise and recommend them to Invalids. These Springs are situated about 40 miles below .Bytown within a few rods from the southern bank of the Ottawa River in Plantaganet, Canada West. A more beautiful and romantic spot is seldom seen in this or any other country. A small Lake is spread out in front of the Springs and em- bosomed by hills and forest trees. From this beautiful sheet of water issues a creek navigable for small boats, and runs into the Ottawa, where the pas- sengers may be landed firom the Steamboats. 4! A Public House is located at the Springs upon the shore of the Lake, as ^reasonal correctly represented in the above engraving, for the benefit of Invalids and others desii-ous of visiting the Springs. The water bubbles up from a ledge of rocks upon which the house is eitoated and conveyed by a pump into the rooms. The Lake and river abound in fish of various kinds and a£ford fine sport for the angler. Here Invalids may recruit their strength, anglers fol- low their bewitching art, and the lovers of wild and beautiful scenery have their desires gratified. A Steamboat ride up the Ottawa is a fine pleasure excursion. This river is a magnificent stream nearly one thousand miles in length and drains 80.000 square miles of territory. Its Rapids^ Falls, many wooded Islands, beautiful Lakes and picturesque shores afford one of the most interesting pleasure trips in the country. I have niado a careful quantitive analysis of a quantity of this Water, sent me by the Proprietor of the Spring. It is a Saline Water, con- taining earthly Chlorids, with portions of Bromids and lodidsjthus re- sembling the Plantagenet Water, from which it differs chiefly in the presence of a portion of Sulphates, which are not often met with in Watei-8 of this class in the Province. It has a specific gravity of 1008,78, and contains in one pound avordupois, the aflixed quantities of the following substances : Grains TuLOBiu or Sodium, . . .60,22(^)0 Cblobid of Potassium, . ,72800 Chu)bid of Calcium, . . ,31003 Gbloriu of MaqnesIum, 8,46982 Bbomid of Magnesium, . ,02016 lODiD OP Maonesicm, . . ,01204 Sulphate or Lime, . . . 1,85044 OflBce of the Geological Survey, Montreal, May 26, 1851. The Medicinal qualities of the Waters are such that there is never the least inconvenience experienced in making use of it. It does not weaken the system and is not followed by any bad eflfects as is often the case in using more powerful medicines. It is found to be pleasant and beneficial as a morning beverage, improving the appetite, cleansing and purifying the blood. In many diseases incident to Females it is unsurpassed. Families within a " "Jreasonable distance from the Springs will no doubt find it convenient to keep a cask of the water constantly on hand — it is of such a nature that it will re- tain all its qualities at least for twelve months, when kept in a cool place and the cask properly prepared by saturation. Orders for the water by mail addressed to the proprietor, Stephen Tucker, Petite Nation, C. E., punctually attended to at moderate prices. C isks will be supplied when ordered.
