THE LYTTLETON TIMES, May 11, 1895. . . . A marked characteristic of the work of both is its sympathetic (luality. The>- have caught, and, as it were, "fixed " the very spirit of nature in her (juteter mood. Power and vigor are not wanting, and one or two of t.ie pictures show that they can successfully portray the wilder aspects of nature. As colourists thej- are distinctly good. They deal in tones which are soft, clear, effective, and thoroughly tiatural ; " ideed. a second striking characteristic of their paintings is fidelity to nature. Kach maintain.-^ a high standard of work. CHh'/STCHI'RCH PA' ESS, May .S, iHq5 A notable event in connection with the history of art in Canterbury was llu opening in the Chamber of Commerce last night of the exhibitioii of paintings in water-colour by Messrs. W. J. Wadham and A. Sinclair, of Adelaide. These two gentlemen's I'Vnglish training reveals it.self in the characteristics of their works. . . . Devout lovers of nature in her varied aspects. I hey have evidently been carefull}- trained in drawing, have paid close attention to colour, and by careful study have acquired a remarkable tenderness of treatment. The colour is admirable, the tones are exceedingly clear, and their work as a whole .should be a revelation as to methods of manipulation. SniJTH AUSTRAIJAN REGISTER, May 14, iH94- Messrs.
