 SYNOPSIS.

Once upon n time. Enoch nnd Phlllis were mftrried, but owing to
••ini'ompallbility" oreome other cause, Enoch was tempted to leave
the charms of the home circle, and being naturally of a wandering
disposition, he disappeared, leaving the fair lady of his choice en-
tirely Ignorant of his plans or purposes.

Phlllis, well Itnowing that black would not, in any way, enhance
the beauty of her complexion, decides that mourning would be
'•out of order." ami proceeds at once to business, and lays seige to
the heart of C'ato, a wealthy neighbor, very high as to tone and
 color.

"Unconditional surrender," on the part of Cato, is followed by
their marriage in due Jorm, Parson Snowtlake being the otficiating
 clergyman.

The curtain rises on the interior of Cato's mansion in the sunny
Soutb. Preparations are belMg made for the reception of the
gnests who' are to celebrate the first anniversary of the marriage
 of Pbillis and C'ato.

 "Welcome ne'glAors de pot's a Itllin',
Quick, 01 de bominy '11 be Bpilin
He and Pbillis feel so gay
Bekase it am our wedding day,"

is then sung by Cato, after which be proposes that his guests
amuse themselves in such a manner as they may desire, and ap-
points Parson i-nowflak'e Master of Ceremonies. The r rson
calls for the singing of "Way down upon the Swanee ^iver" ; this
is followed by a Banjo Duet, the singing of "Up dar in de sky," by
Uncle Lew, and other amusements, pecuMar to such gatherings of
the oolored people. Jake «namored by the peieonal cbsrms of his
i'air ho8t«s8, expresses his admiration in the sons,

"Those Witching Eyes ! Those Witching eyes!
That shintis the deadliest 'neath the skys,
Would they had never on me shone,
For 1 their power too well have known."

C'ftto then sings the Baritone Solo—

" Yc8, gMls iind boys, 'tis Jui*t onn yenr ago
ThHt I WHH wed to fiiir Ptiitlls 8novr,
Aiu) hII my friends hiive mude u Pui-Henim

The children are then hronjjfht m, anO aie miich nihnnkcd by the
Company, in the Solo iind Chorus.

"Triplets ! By Ouni f prooil MrH. PlilII,
We'll drink your iiealtli nxi'in witl) ii will,
And Hs de«e preciouH dropi we swfll
We'll U8k you some Hweet notes to tiiil."

Alter silence Is scnred, Phillls singiithe Soprano Cayatiiia—

De owl bird liootR in de itHrtcnlng louder.
But sweeter de n>UHic dHt ftdls on mine emr
Am by dose dark sk{uneiM>e»utteH made,"

The attention of the Company is thtsn attracted by the voice of
the returning "Crane " (Enoch) who is heard singing in the dis-
tance, and is 8niipui4ed by them to be a wanderii^ minstrel. Ho
is invited in, and at the earnest solicitaticn of Mrs. Phillla, (who
little dreams that she is in the presence of her former hnsband) is
fnrniched with a supper. Ho is then nrgotl to siHg. by Cako and
Pfaiilis in the Duet and Chorus :

 ■'Sing minstrel, sing of love's «leliglrt,
 s:i) 4 minstrel, sing of lovi-'^H delight,
 A h«!>py pair are we to-night."

Enoch, in ro^'jionse sings the Bass Solo, "When dis fair form
was like Apollo," hikI to the siiiprise of all, ends by claiming
 Phillis as his lawfnl wife.
