According to a cablegram from Rome it is stated that the diocese of St. Albert, in tlie North-West Territory, has been subdivided and a portion of it erected into a diocese named that of the Saskatchewan, to be administered by a Coadjutor of Bishop Grandin, whose appointment has not been officially announced up to January, 1891. At the present time, (January, 1891), the number of parishes throughout the whole of Canada is about 1,170, and that of the Missions, exceeds 450. RELIGIOUS ORDERS. During the past 650 years, the Order of Saint Francois lias furnished :— •217 saints and blessed, 1,500 martyrs, 10 Popes and Cardinals, 4,000 Arch- bishops and Bishops. The Order of Saint Dominique has contributed :— 4 Popes — Innocent V, Btnoit XI, Saint Pie V, and Bcnoit XIII ; more than 80 Cardinals and l^(JOO Bishops.
