Bureau (les Gonverncurs.

IV. A chaque election du Bureau des Gouverneurs, cliaque
niembre de la dite corporation aura lo droit do voter par pro-
curation; un tdmoin devra attestor la signature de la piocura-
tion. Toute procuration pour etre valide, devra etre remise
entroles mains du ll^gistrairo le cu avant le I" Juillet prdc^-
diMit I'assemblde triennale, et ronvoyee certifide par cet odicier
cinq jours apres sa reception.
V. Des districts susdits, le District de Quebec coniprendra
los districts judiciaires actuels de Qudbec, Gaspu, Saguenay,
Cliicoutinii, Rimouski, Montmagny, Beauce ot Kaniouraska ;
lo District de Montri^al, comprendra les districts judiciaires
actuels do Montrt^al, Terrebonne, Joilette, Iticheliou, Bedford,
St. HyaciuDio, Iberville, Boauharnois et Ottawa ; lo District
des Trois-Kivicros coniprendra ies districts judiciaires actuels
des Trois-Kivieres et Artliabaska ; et le District de St. Franc^ois
coniprendra le present district judiciairo de St. Franeois.
VI. Le susdit Bureau de Gouverneurs sera olu tons les trois

*ith any other British University, two; which said Governors
thus noniiiiaUfd sliall be chosen from tho members of the Col-
lege of Physicians and Surgeons residing in the City of Montreal,
II. The Goveinors who shall have been nominated by the
above mentioned institutions shall not need to have their nomi-
nation confirmed or approved by the said College, but» on pre-
senting their certificate of nomination, shall have the right to
take their seats and enter upoii their functions.
III. In the event of any of the above mentioned institutions
existing in the Province of Quebec, ceasing to teach students
the science of Medicine the power of nominating delegates as
above provided shall cease ipso facto, and s^>all only be revived
when such institutions, or any of them shau bona fide resume
their teaching.
IV. At each election of the Board of Governors, every mem-
ber of the said Corporation shall have the right of voting by
proxy ; the signat-'re oi the giver of the proxy must be attested
by one witness. To be valid, every proxy must be in the hands
of the Registrar on or before the first day of July preceding the
triennial meeting, and the Registrar shall return it certified
(within five days from the date of its reception )
v. Of the aforesaid districts, the District of Quebec shall
comprise the present judicial districts of Quebec, Gaspci, Sague-
nay, Chicoutimi, Rimouski, Montmagny, Beauce and Kamou-
raska; the District of Montreal shall comprise the present
judicial districts of Montreal, Terrebonne, Joliette. Richelieu,
Bedford, St. Hyacinthe, Iberville, Beauharnois and Ottawa;
the District of Three Rivers shall comprise the present judicial
districts of Three Rivers and Arthabaska, and the listrict of
St. Francis shall consist of tho present judicial District of St.
Francis.
VI. The above Board of Governors shall be elected every
three years, on tho second Wednesdijy of July. The meetings
shall be held at Quebec and Montreal alternately (the next
prochaine asseniblde devaiit avoir lieu h Montreal) au moins

VIII. En cas d'egalitd de voix, toute difficulte, en fait d'dlec-
tion, on d'alfuires ordinaires du College, sera decidee par la
voix preponderante de I'ofticier qui presidera ; et ce sera le seul
cas on il aura a voter.
IX. Toute vacauce survenue dans le Bureau des Gouver-
neurs, soit par deeds, soit par demission, soit par changement
de demeure hors In District ou de la Cite, ou autrement, sera
remplie par le Bureau des Gouverneurs, d'entre les membres
eligibles du College, dans le District ou la Cite on telle vacance
aura en lieu, par scrutin, a la premiere assemblee qui aura
lieu subsequemmcnt a telle vacance. Et dans le cas ou aucune
vacance surviendrait dans le bureau des gouverneurs, en con-
sequence d'aucune des institutions reconnues cessant d'eusei-
gner, la place de tels gouverneurs, sera remplie tie la meme
mauiere, parmi les membres du dit college residant dans la
cite dans laquelle telle institution etait situde, duraiit la sus-
pension d'enseigneur de telle institution.
X. En cas de vacance causee par la mort ou la resignation
de tout Gouverneur delegue par une Universite ou Ecole de
Mddecine incorporce, cette Universite ou Kcole aura lo pouvoir
do nommer une autre personne dument qualitiee pour remplir
cotte vacance.
XI. Le Bureau des Gouverneurs s'asscml.ilera en cette qua-
lity pour remplir los divers devoirs qui lui sont imposes par la
loi, en sa qualite de Bureau des Goiivcu-nours du College, pas
moins de deux fois cliaque aunee, a tel lieu et a tel endroit qui
seront par le dit Ibireau juges les plus convenables ; et dans
ces occasions, sept membres fbrmeront un quorum pour la
transactions des all'aires.

meeting to be held at Montreal), after at least one month's
notice of such meeting having btten piiblished in one English
and one French Medical Journal of each district (if published^,
and in at least one EngHsh and one French Newspaper, in each
district.
VII. The election shall take place by ballot, those members
being elected who have received the majority of votes.
VIII. All ties, whether in cases of election or ordinary bus-
iness of the College, shall be decided by the casting vote of the
presiding officer, and this shall be his only vote.
IX. All vacancies in the Board of Governors, whether arising
from death, resignation or removal from the city or district, or
otherwise, shall be filled by the Board of Governors from among
the eligible members of the College in the city or district where
such vacancy shall occur, by an election ])y ballot, at the next
ensuing meeting subsequent to the occurrence of such vacancy.
And in case vacancies shall occur in consequence of any of the
aforesaid institutions ceasing to teach, the place so vacated shall
be filled in like manner from among the members of the College
residing in the city in which the institution was situated, so
long as such institution shall cease to teach.
X. In case of vacancy caused by the death or resiunation of
an;, Governor serving as delegate frou' an University, Colleot/
or incorporated Medical Bcliool, such university or body shall
have the power to nominate another duly (lualifieil person to fill
such vacancy.
XI. The Board uf Governors shall meet to perform the
several duties dev(jlving upon them under this Act as the Board
of Governors of the College, not less than twice in each year, at
such time and place as Viy them shall be deemed most fit, and
on which occasions, seven shall be a )

CHAPTER III.
Of Members.
I. All persons who shall obtain the license to practice from
the College of Physicians and Surgeons of the Province of
Quebec, shall be styled "Members" of the said college, but
shall not be eligible as Governors within a period of four years
from the date of their admission as members.
II. On or before the first day of July of every year, the
members of the College shall pay to the Registrar the sura of
two dollars as their annual contribution.
III. No member shall vote at any of the triennial elections
nor be eligible as Governor, unless he shall have paid on or
before the first day of July preceding the triennial meeting all
his dues to the College.
IV' The President is authorized to have any member of the
College sued who neglects to pay annually his dues to the Col-
lege.
CHAPTER IV.
The License.
I. The License or Diploma of members shall be signed by the
President and Registrar, and by the vice-President and Secre-
tary of the District in which the meeting is held, and have the
Seal of the College affixed thereto
II. Every member of the medical profession who, at the time
of the passing of the existing act, may be possessed of a License
from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Lower Canada
to practice Medicine, Surgery and Midwifery in the Province of
Quebec, and who shall not have been registered under the act
40 Vict., ch. 26 ^passed in December 1876^ shall, on the pay-
ment to the Registrar of the fee of one dollar and of all annual dues

devra payer une amende de cinq piastres pour chaque annde,'
jusqu'^ ce qu'elle soit enrdgistrde.
III. Toute personne ayant obtenu ou qui obtiendra ci-aprc^s
un degrd ou diplome de mddecine, dans une des universitt«s on
('coles mentionndgs, i la quatridme section de la loi qui nous
regit acluellement, aura droit k telle licence, sans examen.
quant h ses connaissanccs et habilet^ en mddecine ; pourvu
que tel diplSrae n'ait 6ti donne qu'apr^s quatre ann^es d'etude
medicale, dopuis la date de I'admission k I'^tude, et suivant les
exigences de la loi actuelle ; pourvu aussi que " Le Bureau
Provincial de Mddecine " aura le poiivoir d'accorder le mgme
privilege aux portears de degres on de dipl6rae de medecine et
de chirurgie d'autres universitc^s et colleges britanniques, ou des
colonies on de France.
IV, Personne n'aura droit a une licence du college sur prd-
sentation d'nn dipl6me, k moins qu'il n'ait 6t6 prdalablement
admis a I'etude de la medecine conform^ment anx dispositions
du present acte, on a moins qu'il n'ait s(il)i un examen preli-
minaire (Equivalent, devant un college, une (Ecole ou un bureau
aut(jris(i par la loi a exiger et faire subir de tels examens pr^li-
minaires dans les possessions de Sa Majest(3 britannique, ailleurs
que dans la province de Quebec et acceptables au bureau cr(5(3
par le prtjsent ac^^e.
V. Les candidats pour une Licence Provinciale a pratiquer
la M(5decine, la Chirurgie et les Acconchements, et qui ne
seront pas porteurs de degx6s on diplomes de M(>decine tel que
dit ci-desssus, seront tenus de subir un examen professionnel

Vict., ch. 26, be entitled to be registered on producin<^ to the
Registrar the document conferring ur evidencing the qualifica-
tion, or each of the qualifications in respect whfc**eof he seeks
to be so registered, or upon transmitting by post to such Regis-
trar infon ■ m of his name and address, and evidence of the
qualifications in respect whereof he seeks to be registered, and
of the time or times at which the same was or were respectively
obtained ; and every person having the right to register, who
shall nnglect or omit to register, shall pay a fine of five dollars
every year until he is registered.
III. Any person possessing a Medical Degree or Diploma
from any University or Incorporated Medical School mentioned
in section four of the existing act shall have the right to obtain
a License or Diploma entitling him to practice in this Province
without examination as to his medical knowledge and skill ;
provided such Diploma shall have been given only after four
years study from the date of admission to the study of medicine
and in accordance with the requirements of the existing law;
and that its possessor present himself in person, and prove to
the satisfaction of the Board that he is the pei'son whose name
is mentioned in the said Diploma, and the Board shall have the
power and option of extending the same privilege to the holders
of Medical Degrees and Diplomas of other British and Colonial
Universities and Colleges or of those of France.
IV. No one shall be entitled to the License of the Colleye on
pi'esentatiou of a Diploma unless he has been previously admit-
ted to the study of medicine in accordance with the provisions
of this act, or unless he has passed an equivalent preliminary
examination before a College, a School or a Board authorised by
law to require and cause such Preliminary examinations to be
passed in Her Majesty's possessions elsewere than in the
Province of Quebec and acceptable to the Provincial Medical
Board.

Provincial de M^decine, on prouver ;i la satisfaction du Bureau
qu'elles ont i\e]k passe un examen (Equivalent ; elles devront
suivre, tous ou tels coui's requis pour completei' le curriculum
exig^ par ce Bureau, dans une institution de cette Province,
elles devront aussi passer I'exanien professionnel devant le
Bureau Provincial de Medecine. Ces personnes pourront passer

VII. Cliaque Candidat pour la Licence devra fournir la preu-
ve qu'il a atteint rS,ge de vingt-et-un ans.

durant trois sessions d'aucune ecole de nit^decine, dans les pos-
sessions Britanuiques, et (jui se sera actuellcment livr^e Jans cet-
te ])rovince, a la pratique ou a la profession ile la niddecine pour

de ces faits, k la satisfaction du bureau provincial de medecine,
et en produisant en sus, un certificat sigiie par deux mt?decins

profession, et qu'il m^rite la consideration du bureau, aura dmit
a une licence, pour pratiquer la mt'decine, la cliirurgie et I'art
obstdtrique dans cette province, et a Tenregistrenient sans'examen.
IX. Les licences ne seront donnees qu'aux assemblees senii-
anuuel'es du Bureau.
X. Tout candidat qui aura dtd refu.se ne jiourru gtre ailmis a

vincial Board, in an institution Jor the teaching of medicine
in Her Majesty's Dominions.
VI. All persons from Colleges outside Her Majesty's Domin-
ions, but recognized by this Board, who desire to obtain the
License of the College, must pass before the matriculation exa-
miners the preliminary examination established by the Provin-
cial Medical Board, or furnish satisfactory evidence of having
passed an equivalent examination ; and attend in some one of
the Medical Schools of this Province, such other course or
courses as may be necessary to complete the curriculum
required by the Board ; and shall pass the professional exami-
nation before the Provincial Medical Board. Such persons may
pass their professional examination immediately after having
passed their preliminary examination.
VII. Every candidate for the License must furnish proof that
he is not less than twenty-one years of age.
VIII. Any person who shall have studied meaicine during
three sessions in any Medical School in Her Majesty's Donii-
nions, and shall have actually practised medicine in this Pro-
vince over thirty years, on proof of these facts to the satis-
faction of tlie Board, and on production of a certificate signed
by two Physicians residing in the neighbourhood to the effect
that he has succeeded in his profession and deserves the consi-
deration of the Board, shall have a right to a License to practice
Medicine, Surgery and Midwifery in this Province and to
registration without examinixtion.
IX. The License shall be given only at the semi-annual
Meeting of the Board.
X. No rejected candidate shall be granted a second examin-
ation at the same meeting without the consent of those who

CHAPTER VI.
Preliminary or Matriculation Examination.
I. Every Medical Student of the Province of Quebec, before
beginniny his professional studies, must pass a satisfactory
examination upon the following subjects : "English and French,
Latin, Geography, History, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and
Belles-Lettres, and upon any one of the following subjects :
Greek, Natural and Moral Philosophy," and must present
"a certiiicate o£ a good moral character."
II. The matriculation examinai^ions shall be conducted by
the Examiners nominated by the Board twice during the year,
at Quebec and Montreal alternately. They shall commence on
the Thursday of the week immediately preceding the semi-
annual Meeting of the Provincial Medical Board in each of
those cities and be continued daily till all the candidates have
been examined.
III. At the semi-annual Meeting of the Provincial Medical
Board immediately succeeding the preliminary examinations,
the Secretary shall produce the report of the " Examiners," and
the Registrar shall record the names of all candidates who have
successfully passed tha preliminary examination in a book to
be kept by him for that purpose, and shall give to every such
candidate a certificate of registration.
IV. Students admitted to the study of medicine before the
passing of the existing law, shall not be required to undergo a
new examination.
V. The Board may give a certificate of admission to the study
of Medicine, Surgery and Midwifery to any candidate who shall
have passed a preliminary examination, equivalent to that re-
quired in this I'rovince, before an authorized (Jollege or licensing
Board ■ in Her Majesty's Dominions, provided that the same
privilege is accorded to the students of this Province,

ans, sujettes cependant d revocation, quatre personnes actuelle-

Province de Quebec, pour examiner tous ceux qui veulent com-
mencer I'etude de la Mddecine, de la Chirurgie et de I'Art Obs-
tetrique, savoir ; un Examinateur parlaut la lanuue Francaise,
et un Examinateur parlaut la langue Anglaise pour la viUe de
Montreal, et un parlant la langue Francaise et un parlant la
langue Anglaise pour la ville de Qudbec,
II. L'examen sera oral et par ^crit. L'examen oral de
chaque candidat sera fait par au moins deux Examinateurs (I'un
parlant le Francais, I'autre parlant I'Anglais), agissant con-
jointement.
III. Les Examinateurs devront faire entre eux tels arrange-
ments qu'ils jugeront convenables, sur la mani^re de conduire
les examens des Candidats, pourvu toujours qu'ils soient con-
formes avec la loi et les reglements du Bureau.
IV. Aussitot les examens termines, les Examinateurs devront
fournir au Secretaire de la ville ou ces examens auront eu lieu,
un rapport complet faisant connaitre les nouis des Candidats
acceptds et ceux des Candidats refuses.
V. Chaque Examinateur recevra du College, comme bono-
rane, une somme de vingt-cinq piastres ($25.00) pour le premier
jour des examens auxquels il aura assist^, et ensuite une somme
de dix piastres (810.00) pour chaque autre jouruee que pourront
durer ces examens.

VI. The time at and the place in which the preliminary exa-
minatiops are to be held shall be published at the same time and
in the same manner as the semi-annual Meetings of the Board,
and each examiner shall receive official notice thereof from the
Secretary of his district, one month in advance.
CHAPTER VII.
The Matriculation Examiners.
I. Thf Provincial Medical Board shall appoint for three years
('subject to the continual approval of the Board,) four persons
actually engaged in the work of general education in the Pro-
vince of Quebec, to examine all persons about to begin the study
of Medicine, Surgery, and Midwifery,, on the subjects of general
education herein before mentioned as belonging to the prelimi-
nary qualification of medical students, viz : one examiner skilled
in the French language and one skilled in the English language
for the city of Montreal, and one skilled in the French language
and one skilled in the English language for the city of Quebec.
II. The examination shall be oral and written , and during
the oral part of the examination, two examiners, one speaking
the French and the other the English language, shall co-operate
in the examination of each candidate.
III. The examiners shall make such arrangements amonsst
themselves as to the conducting of the examination of the can-
didates as they shall deem suitaljle, so long as they are in har-
mony with the provisions of the ]\Iedical Act and the By-Laws
of the Board.
IV. Immediately after the termination of the ])reliminary
examination, the examiners shall furnish the Secretary resitling
in the city in which the examination has been conducted, with
the names of the successful and unsuccessful candidates.
V. Each of the examiners shall be paid by the College twenty-
tive dollars for the first day and ten dollars for every succeeding
(jay that he is engaged in the examination.

CHAPTER VIII.
Medical Curriculum.
I. Every medical student must pursue his professional stu-
dies during a period of not less tluin four years from the time
of his having passed the preliminary examination.
II. Of the above four years, three six months sessions at
least, must be passed in attendance upon lectures at an Univer-
sity, College or Incorporated School of Medicine recognized by
this Board, the first whereof shall be so passed the year imme-
diately succeeding the preliminary examination. A certificate
of study from a licensed Physician for the period intervening
between the courses which the student has attended will also
be required.
III. Every student must pursue the fpllowing curriculum of

VII. Chaque cours de six mois sera de cent vingt lectures,
except^ pour les Cliniqaes Medicale et Chirurgicale, et la Juris-
prudence Mt5dicale.
CHAPITRE IX.
Examen Pvofessiomiel.
I. L'exameii professionnel aura lieu apres I'achevement du
cours d'etudes ci-dessus enjoint, et cousistera en reclierches ou
([ucstions sur les connaissances acquises du candidat, basees
sur les cours d'etudes qu'il aura suivi.
II. Avant de subir son examen, le candidat a la licence devra
ddposer entre les mains de I'un des Secretaires du College I'ho-
noraire exige, tel que present ci-dessus, au moins dix jours
d'avance, et il devia prouver k la satisfaction du Bureau qu'il
a alteint 1 age de vingt-et un ans et ([\\i\ s'est conformi^ aux
regies et reglements du Bureau, concernant I'examen pr(^limi-
naire et le cours medical.

cal Study previously enjoined— except in the iustances of (Jlin-
ical Medicine, Clinical Surgery and Practicid Anatomy.
VII. Each six months' cou.,,;. sliall consist of one luiudred
and twenty lectures, except those of Clinical Medicine, of Clin-
ical Surgery and of Medical Jurisprudence.
CHAPTEli IX.
Tha Professional Examinaflon.
I. The Professional Examination shall be held after the com-
l)letion of the Curriculum hereinbefore enjoined, and shall con-
sist of an enipiiry into the scientific attaimuents of the candidate,
based upon the course of study he has pursued.
II. At h'ast ten days before his examination be entered upon,
the Candidate for the License must deposit the required fee with
one of Lhe Secretaries of the College, submit to the Boanl satis-
factory evidence that he lias attained the full age of twenty-one
years, and that he has complied with the rules and regulations
of the Board respecting the preliminary examination and the
Medical Curriculum.
III. The Professional Examination shall be conducted by
Committees of nine members of the Board, U) be appointed by
the President with the assistance of the Vice-Presidents at the
semi-annual meeting preceding that at which they are to e\-

VlII. Each Committee shall immediately after the examina-
tion, enregister or have enregistered their vote in a book to be
kept for that i)nrpo8e by tlie Secretaries of the College.
CHAriER X, »
'Ihe Ai^se8sors.
I. The Board shall ajjpoint for each University, College or
Incorporated Medical School, two Assessors, one speaking the
English and the other the French language, to attend the mddi-
cal examinations of those institntions, to discharge the duties
enumerated below and to report to the Board ; their appointment
shall be for three years, but subject to revocation.
II. The Assessors may be chosen from or outside of the
members of the Board, but nom^ of them shall be teachers in
any one of the Medical Schools of the Province.
III. The duties of the Assessors shall be :
1st. To attend the examinations instituted by the Universities
and Medical Schools on the subjects required by law for admis-
sion to the practice of medicine.
2nd. To judge whether the students possess a sufficient know-
ledge of the subjects upon which ihey are examined.
3rd. To satisfy themselves that the courses given by the
Universities and Medical Schools conform to the requiremeuts
of the law, as well in relation to their duration as to the num-
ber of lectures given, &c., &c.
4th. To satisfy themselves that the students have followed
the courses required by the law.
5th. To examine the certificates of admission to the study of
medicine and the tickets of attendance upon lectures, upon
hospital practice and cases of labour.
6th. To draw up a report in conformity with the above duties
and with Schedule B and transmit it to the Board.
IV. In case the report of the Assessors shall prove unfavour-

WHEREAvS it is necessary to furtlicr amend and consoli- •
date the laws now in force in tlir Province of Quebec,
for regulating the qualifications and exaniiintion of candidates
for the study of medicine, surgery and midwifery; for the
registration of medical practitioners, and for the infliction of
penalties upon persons infringing the provisions of this act,
respecting the practice of medicine, surgery and midwifery ';
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of
the Legislature of Quebec, enacts as follows :
rcaml ,
I. From and after the passing of this act, the act or ordinance Acts repealed,
of the legislative council of the late province of Quebec, passed
in the twenty-eighth year of the reign of his late Majesty King
George the third, and intituled: An Act or ordinance toprevent
persons practising physic and surgery icithin the Province of Que-
bec, or mid-cvifery within the tozvns of Quebec and Montreal,
'd'ithout license, and all other acts or parts of acts, in any man-
ner relating to the practice of medicine, surgery or midwifery
in the Province of Quebec, or in any manner relating to the
mode of obtaining licenses .to practice medicine, surgery or
midwifery therein, as well as the Act 40 Vict , chap. 26, intitu-
led : "An act to amend and consolidate the acts relating to the
profession of medicine and surgery in the Province of (Quebec,"
asserted to on the 28th of December 1876, shall belaud are i-roviso.
luM-ciiy repealed, except in so far as relates to any offense com-
mitted against the same or any of them, before the pa.ssing of
this act, or any penalty or forfeiture incurred by reason of

pourront,, eux et leurs succcsseurs, sous le nom susdit', pour-
suivrc, plaider et de d^fendre et ester en justice dans toutes les
cours et places quelconques, et seront habiles en loi, sous le
nom susdit, pounsuivre, plaider et de defendre et ester enjustice
dans toutes les cours et places quelconques, et seront habiles
en loi, sous le nom susdit, h posseder, h recevoir, et conserver
pou: js fins du dit acte. I'avantage du college, toutes sonnnes
de deniers qui out etd ou seront, en aucun temps ci-aprbs, paje'es,
dounees ou legudes au dit college et pour son usage ; ils pour-
ront, en aucun temps ci-apres, sous le dit nom, et satis lettres
d'amortissemenl, acqudrir, prendre, recevoir, avoir, tenir et
posseder des terres, teuemens ou heritages, et en jouir, ainsi que
les profits et interets qui en proviendront pour les fins du dit
college et pour niille autre fin quelconque : pourront les vendre,
conceder, louer, leguer, aliener ou en disposer, et faire h cet
egard, tout ce que de droit ; pourvu toujours, que la valeur des
biens immeubles ainsi po.ssedes par la dite corporation, n'excb-

2. All persons resident in the Province of Quebec authori-

resident in the Province of Quebec and licensed to practice
medicine, surgery and midwifery therein, who, at the time of
the passing of this act, shall not have been registered under
the present act,— and all persons who may hereafter obtain a
license to practice medicine, surgery and midwifery, in this
province, and become registered under the present act, shall be
and are hereby constituted a body' politic and corporate by the
name of: T/if Co//r<>r of Phvsicians and Siirocons of the Province
of Quebec, and shall, by that name, have perpetual succession
and a common seal, with power to cliange, alter, break or
make new the same ; and they and their successors, by the
name aforesaid, may sue and be sued, implead and be im-
pleaded, answer and be answered unto in all co .its and places
whatsoever, and, l)y the name aforesaid, shall be able and
capable in law to liave, hold, receive, enjoy, possess and retain
for the ends and purposes of this act, and for the benefit of the
said college, all such sums of money as have been or shall at
any time hereafter be paid, given or bequeathed to and for the
use of the said college ; and by the name aforesaid, shall and
may, at any time hereafter, without any letters of mortmain,
purchase, take, receive, have, hold, pos.sess and enjoy any
lands, tenements or hereditaments, or any estate or interest
derived or arising out of any lands, or tenements or heredita-
ments for the purposes of the said College, and for no other
purposes whatever ; and may sell, grant, lease, demise, alienate
or (lispo.se of the same, and do or execute all and singular the
matters and things that to them shall or may appertain to do ;
provided always that the real estate so held by the said corpo-
ration, shall at no time, exceed in value, the .sum of twenty
thousand dollars.

volving upon them under this act, as the Board of Governors
of the College, not less than twice in each year, at such timej, ,

6. From and after the passing for this act, no person shall Licence

Quebec, unless he shall have obtained a license from the Pro- ^'"'""'•
vincial Medical Board which is hereby authorized to issue such
license and without being regis:- red in co7iformity jvith the dis-
positions of this act.
7. Every person who has obtained or may ^lereafter obtain, De reesen •
a medical degree or diploma in any University or College, men- '''^^"t^'a"^''
tioned in section 4 of this act, shall be entitled to such license, "'"""
without examination as to his medical knowledge and skill ';
provided that such diploma shall have only been given after
four years of study of the medical profession, from the date of
his admission to study, and according to the requirements of
the existing law ; provided also that the "Provincial Medical
Board," shall have the power to grant the same privilege, to
holders ofdegrees or diplomas of Medicine and Surgery from
other British, Colonial or French Universites or Colleges.
H. From and after the passing of this act, no person shall be^ ,fi , ,
admitted as ? ntudent of Medicine, s&rgery or midwifery, unless ^'»"y°^
he shall have obtained a certificate of qualification from the ""'""'"''
said Provincial Medical Hoard.
And no one shall be entitled to the license of the college, on Examination
presentation of a diploma, unless he shall hive been pre- ■""!"*•■«''■
viously admitted to the study of Medicine, in accordance with
the provisions of this act, or unless he shall have passed an
equivalent preliminary examination before a college, school or
board, authorized by law to require and cause such prelimin-
ary examinations to be passed in Her Britannic Majesty's pos-
.sessions, elsewhere than in the Province of Quebec, and accept-
able to the board created by this act.

one six months' course or two three months' courses of medical
jurisprudence,— one three months' courseof botany,— one three
months course of hygiene, and a course of not less than twenty-
five demonstrations upon microscopic anatomy, physiology
and pathology ; also, that he shall have attended the general
practice of an hospital in which are contained not less than fifty
beds, under the charge of not less than two physicians or sur-
geons for a period of not less than one year and a half,
or three periods of not less than six months each ; and that
he shall also have attended six cases of labour, and compounded
medicine for six months ; and to remove all doubts with
regard to the tuimber of lectures which the incorporated
schools of medicine of the Province of Quebec are bound to
give, it is enacted and declared, that each six months' course
shall consist of one hundred and twenty lectures, except in
the case of clinical medicine, clinical surgery and medical
jurisprudence. Of the four year,' study required by this Act,
three six months' sessions at least, shall be passed in attendance
upon lectures at an University, college or incorporated school
of medicine recognized by this Board, the first whereof shall be
so passed, the session immediately succeeding the preliminary
examination, and the latter shall be so passed during the fourth
year of study, and the candidate shall pass his examination on
the final studies of the curriculum, at the end of the session of
his fourth year of study.
IC. All persons obtaining the license to practice from the Members

capacity of Registrar of the College, under this Act, shall be
prima facie evidence that such person is such Registrar, with-
out any proof of his signature, or of his being in fact such
Registrar.
;$0. The present Board of Governors elected under the pro- Present

and shall act until the next triennial election, but subject in
all other respects to the provisions of this Act ; and all by-laws,
rules and regulations heretofore made by the said College of present
