I '1 TORONTO : ROWSELL AND HUTCHISOX, Printers to the University. 1894. J M > (izi) /^l^ 'i^.i" CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS OF THE TORONTO UNIVERSITY CLUB OF OTTAWA. I. This Club shall be known as the Toronto University Club of Ottawa. II. The membership of the Club shall consist of all Graduates and Undergraduates of the Uni- versity of Toronto, and any members or ex-mem- bers of the Faculty of the University, or of an affiliated College, who reside in the city of Ottawa or its vicinity, and have signed the Membership Roll, thereby subscribing to this Constitution. III. The objects of the Club shall be : — {a) To foster goodfellowship among its members. {b) To have at heart and assist in every possible way the development of the University of Toronto. {c) To maintain and encourage an active interest in the Arts and in Science. IV. The Officers of the Club shall be an Honorary President, a President, a Vice-Presi- dent, a Secretary-Treasurer, and a Librarian. V. The Officers of the Club, together with five other members, shall constitute a Council, which shall have general charge of the affairs of the Club, and of which five shall constitute a quorum. 4 >\ VI. The Officers of the Club and the other members of the Council for the first year shall be elected immediately upon the adoption of this Constitution ; those for succeeding years at the Annual Meeting of each year. When an election is not by acclamation, a single ballot shall decide, the candidate (or in case of n\embers of Council, candidates) having the plurality of votes being elected. The term of service of the Officers and Council shall be one year, and until their successors shall be elected. VII. This Constitution and the By-laws shall not be amended unless notice of the proposed change be given in writing at a meeting of the Club, and such amendment shall have received the affirmative votes of two-thirds of the members present at the following meeting. BY-LAWS. 1. There shall be three regular meetings of the Club m each year, in the months of April, September, and December. The meeting in December shall be known as the Annual Meeting'. 2. Special nieetinigs may be called by the President, and a special meeting must be called on the written demand of seven members. At these meetings no other business than the special business for which they are called shall be trans- acted. 3. Sections of the Club nnay be formed for the discussion of special subjects, e.g., Political Science and History, I'.nglish Literature, Mathe- matics and Physics, Astronomy, Natural Science, etc. ^i.. 4. It shall be the duty of such sections to make a full report of their proceedings at the Annual Meeting of the Club. 5. Such special sections may elect to full membership of their sections individuals who are interested in the work in which they are engaged, but who are not Graduates or Under- graduates of the University of Toronto. 6. The annual fee shall be fifty cents. 7. The order of business at meetings of the Club shall be as follows :— (a) Reading of the minutes. (^) Recommendations and reports. (c) Elections. (d) Miscellaneous business. (e) Presentation and discussion of papers' previously announced. (/) Any other scientific communications. 8. At any regular meeting the order of busi- ness may be changed by a majority vote of the members present. . l ■'#■■■ The foregoing Constitution and By-laws were adopted at a meeting held in the Council Chamber in the City Hall of Ottawa, on Friday, the 9th of February, 1894, at which Mr. John Macmillan, B.A., presided.
