You can save one-third your^ annual fuel bill l?y using 6ur GENUINE Gas Coke. .\-f- "--»* This is the material to' use in a climate where artificial heat is required during eight months of the average year, and the fuel bill comprises 10 to 20 per ceift. vof the household expense. This estimate of saving is not based on opinion , but on experience, and on the experience of your acquaintances, and neighbors. This is true not only in technical 'heat units, but ^so in results secured in practical use. ■V. NORTH A, r. • .. f.\ T 'Oiy/iH'i-HiitS^ Vih l*';^^. ^' • . \ We suggest the following general direc- tions for its domestic use, which we believe will apply with equal value to any form of solid fuel. . li V - ■ ■ ■> ■ ■ The front dampers and doors of the stove or furnkce should close so tightly that no air is admitted except as required. There should be atyiple provision of back dampers in the smoke or escape pipe. If the chimneypr flue hasunusually good draft, two dampers should be provjdjed. Dampers should have a vent or safety hole, and to act as a check to draught more than an ab- hut o\ appai^atus, stove, furnace or grate should always be filled full of coke, as it is much better to havjc a large volume of fire at a low teipperature than a small volume at a high temperature. ^ The damper in the firing door of a fur- nace shoijid never be left open when using coke, as it t^nds to increase the combustion rather than to cool the fuel. .■:/..,^.^.....,^^^....,.,L,^ 1 ! I I . ♦ v: I ! I I If it is desired to check the fire more than is accomplished by dampers, a shovel or two of ashes may be thrown over the fire, and thus bank it. The same method may be employed when it is desired to bank a fire for ten or twelve hours' or even longer. The ash pan beneath grate in a stove or furnace should bp cleared or emptied as often ; as possible. *5his is important, and will absolutely prevent damage to grates. It will usually be fourid unnecessary to shake the ashes down oftener than once or, in . cold weather, twice in twenty-four hours. It is much better to dislodge the ashes by thrust- ing and stirring with a pok^r between the grate and the fire-pot. ^6>i"J' ;, CD A base-burner stove, having a magazine cylinder of less than ten inches diameter, or a grate with a very small basket, is not adaptecl to burn coke, and will not give effi- cient results, ' v -A ") :/ Our '-'^k G«is Co y \ 'W^'. i-»- W -A.. ■• is made from the best Voughiogheny Gas ,."• -'Coal.
