' Article 2nd.— Said School shall be known as the "PERTH PUBLiC SCHOOL." ArTICJLe 3r]}.— The design of said School shall be, to afford a ccMirse ef instruction^ be^nnin^ with the Alphabet, arid embracing the English, French, Latin and Greek Lan^ages; Writing, Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry^ Tri- gonometry, Snrveyitig,, History arid Gedgraphy, Book-Keeping, and the Ele- ifients of Natural and MoralPhilosdphy, 'Elocution, B.hef6ric and Logic; and well other branches as the Trustees thereof shall deem proper to introduce. Article 4TH,-rThe Board of School Trustees for the Town of Perth, ,md the Board of Trustees of the County ^ratumar School located in said Town, shall be the Trustees oif the Perth Public School, and shall Conjointly manage the afiairs of said School, deterinine the number of Teachers to be employed therein, the qualificat- ms of said TcSachers, the branches to be taught by each Teacherj the books and apparatus to be used in the School, and in general, do whatever may be deemed necessary for the proper regu- lator! and efficient operatioriof the Sidhdol^ acrording to the design thereof| .. ■• -ii ^' m 117609 rj^m: and not contrary t6 the proviHiona of any Act of lh6 PorliflimeiU of Canada relating to Public Schools. Article 5th. — The Principal of the Grammar School shall be the Prin- cipal of the Perth Public School, and shall see that the Articles of thi? Union, BO far as they relate to the branches to be taught in said School, and the du- ties of the teachers to be employed in said School, be observed ; and likewise see thai the By-Laws which shall from time to time be adopted by the Board of Trustees, for the regulation of the. said School, be duly observed ; he shall hold office on the same tenure as at present, or as may be provided by any Act of the Parliament of Canada. His salary shall not be less than Two Hundred Pounds, currency, which shall consist of the Government allowance, which he shall draw as at present, and such moneys or fees as the Board of Trustees shnll from time to time determine : Provided always, that the sura which shall be required, over and above the said Government allowance, to make up said salary, shall be provided by the Board of School Trustees of Perth in such way as they shall be required by law to provid-? for the salaries of the other Teachers of the said School : And provided also, that none but a competent person shall be appointed to be Principal, and that liis depart- ment shall be conducted in harmony with the other departments of said Public School, Article 6th. — The Assistant Teacher of the Grammar School shall also tie employed as a Teacher in the Perth Public School. Provided always", that the person appointed to that office shall be subject to the approval of the Board of School Trustees for the Town of Perth, and that said Board shall provide for the payment of the salary of the said Assistant, such sum as shall be required for that purpose, in addition to any sura that may accrue from the Government allowance for such purpose. Article 7th. — The other Teachers of said Perth Public School shall be employed in conformity with the provisions of the Act 13 & It Victoria, chapter 48, or of any other Act or Acts of the Parliament of Canada, relating to such Teachers : Provided always, that all Teachers to be employed in the Pferth Public School shall be required to have a certificate from the Board of Public Instruction, of their competency to be employed in said Perth Public School. • - , Article 8th. — All children entitled to receive instruction at the Common Schools of said Town, shjill be entitled to receive instruction at the Perth Public School, upon such terms as shall from time to time be determined by the Board of Trustees of said School, and as shall be in accordance with the Act 13 & 14< Victoria, chapter 48, or of any other Act or Acts of the Parlia- ment of Canada, that may be passed affecting such Schools. And all other children or persons now entitled to receive instruction at the County Gram- mar School jK and not resident in Perth, shall continue to be entitled to the same, on the same terras as they are now entitled to the same ; Provided al- ways, that the Board of Trustees of the said Grammar School may, by virtue of the powers vested in them, from lime to time alter said terms, as they may deem expedient, excepting always so much thereof as relates to the gratuitous instructing of ten poor pupils ; And provided also, that the fees arising from scholars attending such School, shall be collected and be applicable to the general purposes of said Public School. Article 10th. — The Board of School Trustees of the Town of Perth, as constituted under the authority of the Act 13 r in any other School duties. They shall at all times render a prompt And ener- getic co-operation with the Principal, in carrying into effect all the School regulations, and also such rules for the proper management of the scholars, as may have been adopted by the Board of Trustees of the said School. They shall report to the Principal the names of all scholars who may have been guilty of any gross misconduct while under their care. They shall not expel, exclude, or ev^n dismiss for a short time, a disobedient scholar, but shall refer all cases requiring such measures to the Principal, who is responsible for the proper discipline of the said School. Rule 4th. — In all matters relating to the government, instruction and management of the said Public School, the Assistant Teachers shall obey the directions of the Principal ; and, in the absence of the Principal, the Assistant Teacher in the said School, next in standing, shall assume its management, or the oldest, wh^re th^y ore of the same standing. Rule 5th. — All Teachers in the Public School are required to exercise a careful supervision over their scholars during School hours, both while in -,fj wmK' I -. Rule 6th. — The Teachers of the Buid Public School, Bhall, when they tliink the proper management of the School requiron it, (under the direction of the Principal), extend their discipline to cases of the misconduct of the scholars, while going to and returning from School ; but it is strictly enjoined upon all Teachers in the said School to avpid all appcaranco of ^l^ger and in- discreet haste, in all cases of School diw;iplino. Rule 7th.'— Whenever the Principal of the School shall deem any par- ticular or habitual misconduct of a scholar is such that hiH example is injuri- ous to the other scholars, he may report the same.to the Board of TruHlees of the said School, for their action thereon ; and for violent opposition or grosn misconduct, he may exclude a scholar from school for the time | and in all cases of exclusion he shall forthwith give information in writing of the cause thereof, to the parent or guardian of such scholar. Rule 8th. — The Teachers in the Public School shall devote themselves exclusively to the duties of their office. They shall daily examine the les- sons of their various Classes, and shall prepare themselves with care to in- struct all their scholars without partiality, in thoue branches of School studies which their respective Ckisse^ may be pursuing ; and in all their intercourse with their scholars they are required to sti;ive to in^prcss on all their niinds, both by precept and example, the great importance of continued dtprts for improvement in morals, manners, and deportment, as well as in useful learn- ing.
