The Club shall consist of ladies and gentlemen, whether resident in Stratford or not, of good social and moral standing;. 2. That it shall be called tfee Afterwequit Club. 3. The object of this Club shall be the instruction and amusement of its members, and the eultivation of politeness, etiquette and sociability. 4. The members of this Club shall be elected by ballot only. 5. For the business of balloting, twelve members in good standing shall constitute a quorum ; for all ordinary business ten shall be a quorum. 6 CONSTITUTION AND BY-LA W8 6. The regular meetings of the Club shall be held on the evenings of the first, and third Mondays of each month at eight o'clock sharp. 10. The President, or in his t^bsence the Vice-President, shall have power to call % special neeting for the transaction of any ' important business at any time, and shall call one at the requisition of the Committee, or any six members of the Club in (;ood standing, giving at least three days notice. 12. The Committee shall have power to make rules for conducting the business of the Club; or to alter or add to any rules already made (as occasion may require), si^h alterations and additions to be sanc- ^foned at the fiist general meeting of the Club. 13. A majority of the Committee shall form a quorum. In case of any resigning, on such resignation being accepted, the remain- ing members shall have power to fill the vacancies. 14. It shall be the duty of the General Committee in case of any misconduct on the 8 CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS part of a member of the Club (ov any cir- cumstance arising which is likely, in their estimation, to endanger the welfare or good order of the Club), to request the President to call a special meeting to consider the alleged misconduct, and, on a ballot being taken, one-third of the members present voting for the expulsion of the offending member^ nis name shall be removed from the list. ^- 3 i! ! 15. Writing or striking matches on walls or defacing premises in any way whatever is strictly prohibited i and the party or parties guilty of such offence will be held liable for damage done. The use of tobacco, liquor and profane language is also prohibited un- der penalty of expulsion. 16. Any member shall have the privilege of introducing one or more friends at any as- sembly or other entertainment of the Club ; provided always that such friend or friends be non-residents. 17. It is requested drid expected that all OF THE AFTERWEQUIT CLTTB. 9 Lieinbers of the CLJ) shall be friendly and sociable one with another at any meetings or assemblies of the Ciub, and it shalf be the duty of any member of the Committee to introduce the members or visitors to each other when necessary, 18. At assemblies of the Club, no gentle- man shall dance with the same lady more than three times. 19. All members must agree to support the institution and abide by its rules. Any defaulting members shall be suspended un- til the dues are paid up. Any member breaking rules and who shall continue so to do after beiag warned by a member of the Committee shall also be suspended or ex- pelled as the club shall by vote determine. RULES OF ORDER, 1. The order of business at the meetings of the Club to be as follows : — (a) Minutes of last meeting read, appro v^ed and signed. (b) Election of candidates for admission to membership. (a) Heports and announcements of Com- mittees. (d) Motions and general business. (a) Adjournment. 2» Evtery memberin speaking shall address the chair and confine himself to the subject under diacu8sion> 3. When two or more members urise to speak the Chairman shall determine the pre- cedence. 4.
