I Itn and conse- quently, at the place in question, at 4h. 10m. The clock there- fore is two minutes fast of mean and three minutes f.ist of appa- rent time, and consequently the meridian mark must be drawn at three minutes alter Vi. Had the place in rpjcstion l)cen one degree south of Halifax, .he clock would ho six minutes slow of mean, and Jive slow of apparent time, and the meridian mark must be drawn at^tJC minutes before \Q. At Halifax the clock would be two minutes slow of mean, and one minute slow of ap- parent time, and the meridian mark must be drawn at one minute before 12. EXPLANATION OF TEllMS. Aphelion, is that part of a planet's orbit furlhest from the sun. Apooeb. the moon is said to be in Apogee when furthest from the Earth. Declination, is the ilistance of a heavenly body (rem the equi- noxial line. Ecliptic, is the plane of the Earth's orbit extended to the starry sphere; or the annual path which the sun apparently de- scribes among the stars. Elongation of a planet, is its distance from the Sun, as seen from the Earth. E(iuiNOXiAL,or Equinoxial Line, in an imaairary line, or cir- cle of the heavens corresponding v/ith the E(iuator of the Earth. Equinox. (See Right Ascension) Nodes are those points in the orbits of tlio moon or planets which intersect the plane of the ecliptic. Perihelion is that part of a planets orbit nearest the Sun. Perigee. The moon is said to be in perigee when nearest tht- Earth. Right Ascension is the distance, eastward, reckoned on the equinoxial from the first point of Aries ; and is generally estimated in lime : fifteen degrees of the arc being equal to one minute of time, and so on. The Zero point, or first of Aries, is called the Equinox. /. l1 »■ i ; w>. I iiii j i» f » i H41. The hedge and the wall, the valley and the hill, the meadow 'and the grove, are alike enrobed in beauty. The tender grass has become high and waving ; and the dandelions and buttercups bespangle the mea- dow like gold dust strewed over the plain. — The clambering vines are strung with many-hued flowers, and the violet peeps forth from under the Iwall. All nature is radiant with summer glories, and the bright sun looks ;down upon a regenerated world. The sunny days have come — short !aights leave no room for dismal dreams — the sun breaks forth early, and jdarts his beams through the lattice on the eyelids of the sleeper. The air is filled with odours, and the woods are rife with melody. Of all the ^^-'r^iwr^ i Wi a mw im — f i i i i im ij ■ m in-tfn M ri ' nrfWT 6 31 i t> 3f> (i 34 C 35' (3 3c;i G 37^ 6 38 (3 39!
