 '^' E. H. Macklin, and R. H. McBride. are still connected with 
 
 the Club. A bicyclist was then thoujjht a curiosity, and the sp..rt 
 looked upon as child's play. 
 
 The first Race Meet was held at the Exhibition Grounds, and was a 
 complimentary at^air. It went off so well and excited so much interest that 
 it was made an annual affair thereafter, and is now looked upon as one of the 
 chief sporting events of the city, 2-.^ Civic Holiday without it would be like 
 Christmas without Santa Claus •■. a great number of citizens. 
 
 The Club grew from year to year, and from time to time char.ged 
 its Club rooms, always towards improvement, until last year the Club was 
 transferred into a Joiiit Stock Company, and obtained a charter from the 
 Government. They purchased their present comfortable quarters on one of 
 the finest residential streets of the city. 
 
 When the Club was first organized it joined the L.A.W., but on the 
 formation of the C.W.A. withdrew from the former, and has ever since 
 been a loyal part of the latter. 
 
 On the race track the riders of the Club have always don^ - fair share 
 and the present; season bids fair to surpass all previous achievements, as its 
 riders have taken the majority of the prizes at all th' meets they have 
 attended in Canada this season, including two of the track championships of 
 the C.A.W.. and the road team championship, r-peatedly lowering existing 
 records. They have also distinguished themselves at the L.A.W. meets, where', 
 in the company of the best talent on that side of the line, they took several' 
 valuable prizes.

 under the supervision of IL Crewe, Kscj., Civil Engineer. It is 
 com]K)sed of clay and brick dust ; 1546 feet in circumference measured 
 18 inches from the pole ; the ends are well banked, and there are excellent level 
 stretches on eo'di side. 
 
 The list of races will, wc think, be fouiul to be \ery complete, and as 
 well arranged as possible, there being all the standard events, and a sufficient 
 number of novice and class events to bring out young aspirants. 
 
 The prizes will i)e aheafl of anything ever offered at a race meeting in 
 Canada heretofore, there being three first-class Tncumatic Bicycles and a large 
 assortment of handsome and useful trophies and articles amounting to over
