The officers shall consist of a President, a Vice- Piesident, Treasurer, and Secretary, and a stand- ing Committee of thirty-six members, all of whom shall bo elected by open vote on the first regular meeting to be held the fii-st Saturday of July in each year. One-third oi the members will con- stitute a quorum of the standing Committee. Art. II. PRESIDENT. It shall be ths duty of the President to preside in the Society ; enforce a due observance of the Constitution and By-Laws ; and see that all the officers perform their respective d' 'ios ; appoint all committees, not otherwise provic.v( . for ; give the casting vote on all matters before the Society, when ft tie may occur ; inspect and announce the result of balloting and all other votes ; direct the Secre- tary to call special meetings when application shall be made in writing by five members of the Society. No person shall be admitted a' member of this Society vmder the age of fifteen years ; nor for a less simi than 50 cents entrance. The regular dues which shall bo required from each member are 25 cents per month. Art. VIII. THE SAME. No person shall be admitted into this Society who does not possess a good character, or who is in any way iucapacitated from earning a livelihood, or who has no visible means of support. The name of a person offeied for membership must be proposed by a member, staling age, residence, and business, which must bo entered on the records, and the snbject referred to the Standing Committee of the Society, tor investigation, who shall report at a Bucceeding meeting, when the applicant shall be voted for in due form, but if he receives less than two-thirds of tlio voles cast he «»:.ill bo n-jectcd. DKATIIS, ANI> AUSKNCF <»F MKMUKRS. In cnso of the df^ath of a member who is in needy circumslunces, the ineral expenses shall b« paid out ot the funds of tliis Soeiety, and the raem- bera shall be required to attend his funeral, under the penalty of 25 cents, unlesH they can file good cauao of excuse; and ariv member failing to ntten.l any meeting of this Society shall be fined 25 cents, unlesH excused by the Society. Art. X. ABSENCE OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEE. Any officer neglecting to attend to the duties of his office shall pay a tine of $1, unless he files (rood cause of excuse ; and any member of Ihe committee failing to attend the regular meetings of the Committee, shall be fined 50 cenU. unless he files good cause of excuse. Art. XI. QUORUM. One liundred members, one of them being qual- ified to preside, shall constitute a quorum for the Jransaction of business. Art. XTI. Any member of this Society who shall have bo- come subject 10 pay any penalty aforesaid, shall be bound to pay the same with his next monthly subscription. Art. XIII. Any niember who shall be in arrears to the Society to the extent of three monthly subscrip- tions, and fines (if any), shall have his name struck from the book of 'the Society, and cease to be a member thereof, and to enjoy the privileges ot such membership. And in the event of his wishing to return to the Society he will have to be proposed and accepted in the same manner as if lie never had been a member thereof. Art. XIV NEW LAWS. A motion to alter^ amend, or annul these Rules, By-Laws, or any part thereof, shall be sub- mitted ill writinrr, ut a rogular meeting, and con- sidered at the next regular meeting ; and should two thirds of thu members present vote in favor thereof, the same shall be adopted. Art. XV. HONORARY MEMBER**. No person shall be elected nn honorary mem- ber of this Society unless he has done some ser- vice to the >.^ciety ; and if elected shall be allowed to take part in all the proceedings, and shall be re- leased from paying any dues, but shall not be en- titled to vote, or to any of the benefits of the Society, further than the members shall attend his funeral. 10 Art. XVL tractical duties op member.s with reference to employing members. It shall be the duty of each member of this Society to, in all cases, patronize its own members before all others, in case tha t the member be a worthy man. Art. XVII. SWEARING. Should any member who swears, or otherwise misbehaves, at a meeting, when called to order by the chair, refuse to obey, such member shall be fined 25 cents. Art. XVIII. No member shall receive any benefit from this Society before he has been one year a member.
