The followiii"" are the requisites for admission to the Degree of Bachelor of Medicine, viz. : — (1) Having produced satisfactory certificates of good conduct. (2) Having Matriculated in any Faculty iu this University, or having l)een admitted ad eundem gradum or statum in Law or Arts. (3) Being of the full age of twenty-one years. (4) Having pursued Medical Studies for the period of at lea.st four years, and having reo-ularly attended Lectures extending over a period of at least tliroe Sessions of six months each, in the following branches of Medical education, for the respective periods hereinafter set forth : Anatomy, two courses of six montiis. Practical Anatomy, two courses of six months. Theory and Practice of Medicine, two courses of six months. ^ Principles and Practice of Medicine, two courses of six months. v, u^^^^^. Chemistry, two courses of six months. Midwifery and Diseases of Women and Children, two courses of six months, and attendance on six cases of labour. Therapeutics and Pharmacology, two courses of six months. Ph^vsiology, two courses of six months. Practical Chemistry, one course of three months. Medical Jurisprudence, one course of three months. Botany, one course of three months. (5) Having attended for at least twelve months the practice of some general Hospital, and having attended during six months Clinical Lectures on Medicine and Surgery. V' / DEGREE OF M.D. The following arc the requisites for admission to the Degree of M.D., viz. : Having been admitted to the Degree of M.B., being of one year's standing from admission to the Degree of M.B., and having composed an approved Thesir. upon some Medical sul)ject. DEGREES AD EUNDEM. A Graduate in any of the Universities in Great Britain or Ireland may be admitted to the like Degree in the University of Toronto. He must send in his Certificate to the Registrar at least two •weeks before the First Meeting of the Session of the Senate at which his application is to be brought forward. FEES. For Matriculation or Entrance Four Dollars. For the Decree of M.B Six Dollars. "O For the Degree of M.D Eight Dollars. For admission ad eundem gradum Ten Dollars. EXAMINATIONS. The Examination for Matriculation will be held in the latter part of Se])tember. Additional Examinations for Matriculation may be held at other periods, but no Honoi's or Scholarships will be awarded at such additional Examinations. The Examinations, other than that for Matriculati'on, will be held in the beginning of the month of April. Notice will be given annually, in January, of the days on which the Examinations for the year will commence. Every Student, who proposes to present himself at any Examination, is required to send to the Registrar, at least three weeks before the day appointed, a paper (according to a printed form which will be provided), stating his standing, and whether he is a Candidate for Honors or otherwise. SCHOLARSHIPS. Four Scholarships will be annually offered for competition, viz. : One among Matriculants. One among Students of One Year's Standing. One among Students of Two Years' Standing. One among Students of Three Years' Standing. No Scliolarship will be cawarded to any Candidate unless he shall have been classed in Honors in at least two-thii'ds of the Departments comprised in the Examination. Each Scholarship is of the value of one hundred and twenty dollars a year. Each Scholar.shij) is tenable for one year (»nly, but the Scholar of one year is diiMble for the Scholarship of a succeeding year. Students who have not previously Matriculated may compete for the Scholarship of the First, Second, or Third Year, by taking along with the subjects prescribed for that year the subjects appointed for Matriculation. Every Student taking a Scholarship is reijuired to sign a Declaration tliat it is his intention to pursue his Medical studies one, two, or three year.s, according to the year in which he has taken such Scholarship, and to proceed to a Degree in the Universitv of Toronto. MEDALS, PRIZES, AND CERTIFICATES OF HONOR. A Gold Modal may bo given, upon the special recommendation of the Examiners, to the Student, who, at the Examination of the Degree of ]M.B., shall have been placed first in the First Class. A Silver Medal will be given to each of the Students, who, at the Examination for the Degree of M.B., shall have been placed in the First Class of Honors, except the successful Candidates for the Gold Medal. No Medal will bo awaixled to any Candidate unless he shall have been classed in Honors in all the Departments compiised in the Examination. Prizes, each of the value of Ten Dollars in Books, may be awarded annually among Undergraduates in Law, Medicine, and Arts, for the best Composition in Greek Verse, Greek Prose, Latin Verse, Latin Prose, English Verse, English Prose, Fren 'h Prose, or German Prose. The late RicilARD Noulk Staru, M,D., devised certain itroj)erty lor the encuunv^e- iiietit of the study of the subjects of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology. In fulKhnent of this object the Senate have established one Gold and two Silver Medals, called the "Starr Medals." These Medals are competed for aiirnially at the same time as the Examination for the Degree of M.B., and are conferred upon the Three Competitors who have attained the highest marks in the above subjects; the relative rank of each Candidate being determined by the aggregate number of his marks in all such subjects. They are open for competition to all Students who liave received their medical education in any Medical School or Institution affiliated with the University, and have mati iculated or been admitted ad eundem statum in the Faculty of Medicine in the University ; but such Competitors must be of sufficient standing to be entitled to present themselves for the Degree of M.B. Candidates are required to take all the subjects ap[)ointed for Examination for the Degree of M.B. Every reci[)ient of the Medal must have attained the standing of First Class in each of the subjects of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology, and must be classed in Honors in all the other subjects of Examination. The " Starr Medal" may be taken and held by any Candidate to whom the University Gold or Silver Medal has also been awarded at the same Examination, in Avhich case it is optional for him to receive, instead of such Uni verity Medal, the value thereof in money.
