 This circular is issued with a view of giving information to tlu,se 
 who desire it concerning the aims of tl>e Council in cst.b ,shm, 
 the Free Kvenin, Drawing Classes, and the courses of study tn the 
 
 same. 
 
 The school is chiefly intended to afford instruction in Drawing and its 
 
 useful applications in It.lustrial pursuits to those having ta.te and 
 incUnat.on for these subjects, but more principally for artisans and 
 apprentices. 
 
 U is the aim of the tV.uncil to make the instruction as practical as 
 possible, in order that the pupils may profitably apply the knowledge 
 gained in the various trades and branches of industry in which they 
 are engaged. 
 
 Daily experience demonstrates the great value of drawing in all trades. 
 : and as the classes are entirely free, the Council trusts that both employer 
 i and employed may show an interest in the important work-the former 
 ; by directing; attention to the value and usefulness of the School, and the 
 j latter by regular attendance on the classes.

 IX. Pupils must be obedient to the teachers, and must follow the methods 
 yiven, and only do such work as is permitted by the teacher. 
 
 X. All drawings or other works executed in the School will be retained during 
 the session ; at the close the Council may retain such works as it considers 
 <lcsirable, the remainder lieing returned to the pupils by the teachers. 
 
 No drawing must be lianded in to the teaclier as finished, unless it be neat and 
 clean and ready for inspection, and have the pujiils' name attached.

 This Class is designed chiefly for those following mechanical pursuits, for 
 apjirentices and others employed in machine sliops tiie instruction will prove <.'f 
 great value. An elementary knowledge of Linear Drawing is required before 
 pupils can enter this Class ; the instruction is of a very practical character, pupili 
 often being requiretl to make drawings to scale from hand sketches prepared by 
 the teacher. 
 
 ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING.

 in the details of Framing, Plans and Elevations of Buildings and the preparation 
 ^f Working Drawings.

 work, an 1 .i ili ■ same time to ai<l in forming and directing the taste of the pupils 
 in provi li:i_; nuai.s of sm-iyinj. decoration according to the rules of art. Pupils 
 desiring to enter this Class must have a good knowledge of drawing. Materials, 
 such as Paints, Brushes, etc., are "rovide 1 fne nf rh.artrr. 
 
Instruction will be given on such subjects as lead bossing, pipe bending, 
 soldering and wiping joints lead burning:, water closets and their fittings, water 
 waste preventers, baths, lavatories and sinks, traps, soil pipes, connection of 
 drain with sewer, vcntdatiim of s..il pipes and drains, si/cs of pipes, etc., water 
 supply ; house cisterns, their construction, poMiiim and management, etc. 
 
 The materials required ^vill be supplied free. 
 
 A fee of One Dollar will be charged for admissicn to this Class.

 making establidiments, and particularly for those in the Upper cutting deparf

 The Class is established for the purpose of giving practical instruction in Hoot 
 AMI Siiui', Pattern Ci. ttin"., and f.r the Study and Traciice of Tractical and 
 Artistic Pattern Cutting, including boot- and Shoes of all kinds. 
 
 After instruction by the teacher, the j.upils will be reciuired to fit and adjust 
 patterns to the Last. The instructions will be illustrated by specimens of 
 materials and otherwise. 
 
 'l"he Class is free, and will be opened on Thurs.lay, 26th January.
