Trkasurbr :— L. H. LET AGE, Montreal. ■ TF-IE Astro-Meteorological Association was organized at Montreal, on October 29th, 18S4. Its Founder and President, Prof. Walter ^v H. Smith, had previous to that date corresponded with several ^ of the leading Astro-Meteorologists of this Continent and Europe, in order to ascertain their general opinions for or against such an organization. The answers were unanimously favorable, and the Association has in consequence been formed and gained ground rai)idly. In a few weeks the movement was taken hold of in the United States, and, by the spring of 1885, corresponding members had been obtained mi several states, as well as two branches formed — one in North Car. .na and the other in Virginia, 'i he Association, now in its second year, is l)ecomirig extensively known all over this Continent, and ])romises soon to become one of the leading scientific societies. New members are added at every meeting. The sj)ecial aims of the Association may be briefly summarized as the study of Astronomy and Meteorology, but more particularly with regard to .Astronomy as connected with terrestrial i)henomena. Its members hope to be able to formulate a system of ruies that will simplify the science of weather forecasting, The accurate weather forecasts of its President, Prof. Smith, and its Vice-President, Prof. Mansill, are too well known to need further comment. Its members are also conducting experiments and recording the observed lunar and other influences on vegetation in various latitudes ; and tables, published yearly by President Smith have been of great advantage to agriculturists in obtaining more abundant crops. All peisons interested in the study of Astron..mv, Astro-Meteor- ology, (sometimes called Planetary Meteorology). Meteorology, and their kindred sciences, should become members, and such are cordially invited to correspond with the President or either of the Vice- Presidents.
