The following are the requisites for obtaining the Degree of LL.B. in the ordinary course: Having produced satisfactory Certificates of Good Conduct. Having Matriculated in the Faculty of Law. Being of the Standing of Three Years from Senior Matriculation, or Four Years from Junior Matriculation. Having passed in each of those years the Examinations prescribed in the Statute respecting "Subjects of Examination in the Faculty of Law." Being of the full age of Twenty-one years. Any person who has been admitted a Barrister by the Law Society of Upper Canada, on production of satisfactory Certificates, may enter he Faculty of Law at the Second Year's Examination. A Graduate in the Faculty of Arts in the University of Toronto, or an Undergraduate of the Standing of the Third or Fourth Year in the Faculty of Arts, may enter the Faculty of Law at the Second Year's Examination ; but no Student, having obtained his Standing in the University of Toronto by admission "ad amdem statum" from another University, can exercise this privilege, unless he has passed at least one Examination in the Faculty of Arts in the University of Toronto. The Degree of LL.B. may also be conferred after one Special Examination at which no Honors will be awarded, if the Candidate be a Master of Arts of Seven Years' Standing in the University of Toronto, or a Barrister of Seven Years' Standing from his admission by the Law Society of Upper Canada, or if he be a Graduate in the Faculty of Arts in the University of Toronto of Three Years' Standing, being also a Barrister admitted by the Law Society of Upper Canada. /^^ DEGREE OF LL.D. The following are the requisites for obtaining the Degree of LL.D. : Having been admitted to the Degree of LL.6. Being of Ten Years' Standing from admission to the Degree of LL.B., or of M.A Having composed an approved Th«.:is upon some subject in Law. FEES. The following P'ees will be required : — For Matriculation or Entrance Four Dollars. For ihe Degree of LL.B Six Dollars. For the Degree of LL.B. after Special Examination... Ten Dollars. For the Degree of LL.D Eight Dollars. For admission ad eiindem gradum Ten Dollars. The Fee for Matriculation must be paid to the Registrar before the Candidate offers himself for Examination; but if he should be rejected, he may offer himself again without any additional Fee. The Fee for a Degree must be paid to the Registrar before the Degree is conferred. EXAMINATIONS. The Examinations for Junior Matriculation will take place in the month of September, and all other Examinations in the Faculty will take place in the month of May. Notice of the day when they commence will be given early in January. Every Student, who proposes to present himself at any Examination, is required to send to the Registrar, at least three weeks before the day appointed, a paper (according to a printed form which will be provided,) stating his Standing, and whether he is a Candidate for Honors or otherwise. Matriculants who have been rejected, or who have been prevented from attending the Annual Examinations in May by sickness, domestic affliction, or other causes beyond their control, may present themselves for Examination in September, at the time of the Matriculation Examinations in Arts. The Fee for such Supplemental Examination is Six Dollars for those who were re- jected at the Regular Examinations, and Three Dollars for those who did not attend them. Four Scholarships will be annually offered for competition, viz. : One for General Proficiency among Junior Matriculants. One for General Proficiency among Students of One Year's Standing and Senior Matriculants. One among Students of Two Years' Standing. One among Students of Three Years' Standing. Each Scholarship is of the value of one hundred and twenty dollars a year. If the Scholarship shall not have been taken at the Examination for Junior or Senior Matriculation, or for the First Year, a Scholarship may be awarded, on the recommendation of the Examiners, to a Candidate entering the Faculty at the Second Year, in addition to the ordinary Scholarship for that year. Each Scholarship is tenable for one year, but the Scholar of one year is eligible for the Scholarship of the succeeding year. No Scholarship will be awarded to any Candidate, at the Junior or Senior Matricu- lation, or at the Examination for the First Year, unless he shall have been classed in Honors in at least two-thirds of the departments ; nor in the Second or Third Years, unless he shall have been placed in the First Class of Honors. All Scholars will be required to sign a Declaration that it is their intention to proceed to a Degree in the Faculty of Law in the University of Toronto. MEDALS, PRIZES, AND CERTIFICATES OF HONOR. A Gold Medal may be given, upon the special recommendation of the Examiners to the Students who, at the Final Examination of the Degree of LL.B., has been placed first in the First Class of Honors. A Silver Medal will be given to each of the Students, who, at the Final Examina- tion for the Degree of LL.B., have been placed in any position in the First Class of Honors, except tl:c successful Candidate for the Gold Medal. Certificates of Honor will be given at each Examination to those Students who have been placed in the First Class of Honors. Prizes, each of the value of Ten Dollars in Books, may be awarded annually among Undergraduates in Law, Medicine, and Arts, for the best Compositions in Greek Verse, Greek Prose, Latin Verse, Latin Prose, English Verse, English Prose, French Prose, or German Prose.
