fTl he attention of the public is called to the approaching visit of Mr.
/c\ Frederic Villiers, the well-known \var correspondent and artist of the
V/ London Graphic, who went through the Servian campaign and the
Rusao-Turkish war with Archibahl Forbes, afterwards accompany-
ing the Afghanistan expedition and the mission to Abyssinia, serving
through the ntire Egyptian campaign, and the recent Soudan and Bur-
mese expeditions. Among other famous engagements he has participated
in, may be mentioned Plevna and Tel-el-Kebir, and he was the only corres-
pondent in the squaraof 1200 which, under Stewart, cut its way through
 lo the Nile. ^

As a war artist and correspondent, Mr. Villiers holds the highest
position ; he was an actor in the historic scenes which he describes and il-
lustrates, and " fjord Wolseley, presiding at one of his lectures, stated
that lie had always found him a nibst accurate and faithful witness." Mr.
Vill ers' illustrated lectures have been received with remarkable favor in
England, and the demand for him is so great that he could be occupied
every evening in the season. Ho decided, however, to come to America,
and arrived in New York a few days ago. where he gave his first lecture
before an Americar. audience with great success at Steinway Hall. The
preliminary notice of his intended visit aroused unusual interest, and
the w.irm recognition which is being urmuimouslv accorded to a
brave man, will commend this engagement to the genci ! public, who will
not be slow in availing themselves of this unique opportunity to see and
hear for themselves the man who Iiaa been through so much for tlieir en-
 tertainment and edification.

Mr. Villiers is a man of tine preseme, and appears on the platform in
travelling costume. He is a fluent speaker, and has a fund of humor which
keeps his aud'ence in the best of spifits. Mis sketches are bold and full of
talent, and in addition to their value as illustrative of the lecture, they arc
most interi'sting as fac similes of the actiud sketches taken on the spot,
and often to the accompaniment of cannon's loar and ritle's whirr. \Vc are
confident that Mr. Villiers will repeat here his great success in England
 and the Unitofl States.
