The whole of the objects and Rules of this Court shall be carried into eflFect in conformity with, and subject to. t Laws of the District, and the General Laws of the Order, and the whole of the said Laws of the Order, and of the District, and any alterations or amendments thereof, hereafter made and certified shall be applicable to the Members of this Court in the same manner as if the said Laws, &c., were inserted in these Rules. He shall he elected annually ; take charge of the Ainda of the court, and before entering on his office, the court shall see that be ia properly guarranteed (expenaea incured thereby being bourne by the court,) the amount to be determined upon at a aummoned meeting of the court. He shall be elected annually, and continue in office during the pleasure of the court ; he shall attend all court m^tings, and take a dear a(id correct account of all receipts and expenditure. He shall carefully register the name, age residence, and profession of every person proposed and initiated; keep a dear and distinct account of each member's contribution prepare and deliver all summonses to the woodwards, at least SIX days before the time of meeting, and attend the auditors to point out and explain anytb^ - they may require respecting the accounts. When a mem w declares on the sick fund, it shall be his duty to see immediately what allowance he is en- titled to receive, and communicate the same to the woodwards, so that they may visit him during his sickness, and punctually pay his claims at the proper time. He shall preoare documents and returns both for District and High Court ; provide by the first court night in April, in each year, a balance sheet of the year s receipts and expenditure, and a new contribution card. And he shall receive from the Management Fund for his ser- vices the sum of eight cents per quarter for each member good ^n the books at the quarterfy audit. That when any person is proposed as a candidate for admission into this court, his proposer shall pay on his behalf the sum of fifty cents; and at the time of his admission the further sum of one Dollar and a iialf, and the remainder of the admission fees to be paid within six ^oonths from the time of initiation ; and if not paid within such time he shall not be entitled to any benefits until the expiration of six months from the date of paying up the full amount. But should any per- son proposed and accepted n^lect to complete his initiation within three months from the date of his proposition, his de- posit shall be forfeited to the man>^ement fund of the court : but should the candidate be refused on any account, his pro- position money shall be returned to him. Every person pro- posed shall prove his age to the satisfaction 6f the court, pre- vious to his admission ; and shall produce a legally qualified surgeon's certificate of good health. Immediately after the admission of a member, he shall be furnished, gratuitously, by the court with a copy of all the rules and laws by which he is to be governed : and also a certificate of membership. If a suspended member, desir^ to be re-instated, he lUst produce a medical certificate of good health on a meeting light, and if he pays the whole of his arrears, together with {a fine of twenty five cents, if within three months from the date of suspension : if exceding three won ths, fifty cents, and if a majority of the members then present so decide, he may be rein- stated on the books again, he will then le entitled to benefits 14 weeks after such reinstatement. Nevertheless, should a mem- ber from some unavoidable cause, become suspended, he may. en the next meeting night after his suspension, be re-instated on the books again, without the medical certificate, by the payment of the above fine of twenty-five cents. No member shall be re- instated who has been suspended more than twelve months. DISTANT MEMBERS REQUIRING A SUGEON. •22. That should a member reside at a distance from hia court house, and desire the assistance of a surgeon of a court in his neighbourhood, he shall be allowed to do so, upon being accepted by such surgeon, and paying the same coutribu:iuns into the court that is paid by the members therecf. SICE MEMSSBS' BEQITLATIONa 27; No undue advantage shall be taken of a sick or afflicted member of this court at any time, but the rules shall be liber* ally construed where no fraudulent intention appears. Never- theless, if a member receives any accident by fighting, run- ning, leaping, wrestling, or any dangerous practice, or act of bravado, he shall receive no siok benefits ; nor for the venereal disease. But should the disorder occasion his death, the same shall be paid as for other deaths, if allowed by district. And should a member while receiving sick benefits, be found drink- ing to excess, or at any public place of amusAnent, or frequent- ing any public-house, or beer-house, .^r gaming, or inebnated, oUnig to fight, or doing that which is likely to retard his recovery, or working, or imposing on the funds in any way ; or should any sick member while receiving sick allowance, refuse to be seen by the medical attendant, or woodwards, the secretary may suspend his sick pay, and continue his suspension until the court restore his privileges. Should a member become turbulent or inebriated during business, he shall be desired by the Chiel' Ranger to withdraw, and if he refuses, a fine of fifty cents shall bo registered against him. If a member during business hours, make, or ofier to make, wagers, or play at any kind of games, or swear or use any in- sulting language to any brother, he shall be fined ten cents for each offence without mitigation. And should the beadle admit any one inebriated during f^ourt hours, or without the pass- word and countersign, unless by order of the chief ranger, he shall be fined twentj-five cents. ^ DIVUIiQING THE SECBETS OF THE OBDEB. 32. Should any brother make known to any person not duly intiated a member of this Order any of its secrets, he shall be for ever expelled ; or should a brother make known any objection made in this court to the admission of a candi- date, or the name of any brother making such objection, he shall pay a fine of two Dollars, or be expelled ; or should any brother, except the chief ranger or secretary, give the pass- word or countersign to any brother, either in or out of court, he shall be fined for every su '- offence, according to the dis- cretion of the court ; or shoula any brother make known any resolution of, or the discussion use(? in, any meeting of this Order to a person who does not belong to it, he shall be fified at the discretion of the court. . . , DAMAGING THE PBOPERTY OP THE GOUBT. 33. Any member of this Order who haa been initiated twelve months, and who is clear on the books of his court, may have his clearance or travellipg license by proving his neceeasity for the same. No member will be allowed to with- draw from the court to which he belongs, to enter as a member of another court, unless he shall prodmce such clearance or travelling license signed by the chief ranger, sub chief ranger, and secretary, with the court seal affixed, stating that he has paid up all arrears. But should a member have been sus- pended his court for non-payment of contributions for the space of twelve months, suoh member will not be allowed to enter his own or any other court otherwise than as a new membei. See general law 92 to 98. ARBWABB. 35. Arrears shall include contributions, Doctor's Dues, Man- agement Fund, Benevolent and Incidental Funds, and Fines, APOLOGIES. 36. All apologies that may be received for non-attendance at summonded or any other meetings, shall be read to the court, and if not of a bona fide character, shall not be received, and the brother fined as if he had not sent any apology j and if any brother after he has sent an apology shall be seen in the neighbourhood, occupying himself in any kind of amuse- ment, or acting in any way contrary to the statement in his apology, he shall, upon its being proved to the court, be fined double the amount he would have been liable to if he had not apologised. APPLICATION OF FINES. 37. All fines enforced in this code of rules shall be ap- propriated to the Management Fund, except the fine in Ben- evolent Fund J and any member breaking a rule for which there is no specific fine, shall be fined under Ihe discretionary clause of the 107th General Law. »:!' Not more than two Dollars to be given to any one case before the court, and if a travelling brother present his travelling license to the secretary between court nights, he may, if a deserving case, with the consent of the chief ranger or treasurer, present the travelling brother with the amount of seventy-five cents. ANIVIVEBSABY. 39. That a regular summoned meeting shall take place on the first meeting night in March to decide on the best means of celebrating the Anniversary, and at such Anniversary every memher except the sick shall have a ticket sent him ; should any one decline attending he must return his ticket four days t»erore the celebration, or pay the price thereof into the Anni- veraary Fund. The court chest shall have three locks and three keys to be kept respectively by the chief ranger, sub-chief ranged tod senior beadle. If either of these oflicers neglect to send lus key by quarter-past eight o'clock on a meeting night he shall be fined twenty-five cents, and if he be absent the whole evening fifty cent«, together with such expenses as may be in- curred on opening the chest. Any proposition for altering, amending, or resoindine this code of rules must be properly made in court, and eaoE member apprised of its purport by summons, so that at a special "general meeting, called for the express purpose, the question may be decided. SEPARATE BOOK OF ACCOUNTS. 43. That a book or books shall be kept, in which shall be entered all monies received or paid on account of each and every particular fund or benefit, distinct from all monies re- ceived and paid on account, of any other benefit or fund. 44. The Secretary shall keep a book in which the members may nominate in writing the person to whom the burial money shall be paid on their decease. Any member may revoke such nomination by a written notice to that effect, signed by him- self; and it shall be the dutv of the Chief Banger to see the nomination erased. The member to pay five cents to the Man- agement Fund for each nomination or revocation.
