The Vancouver Club being constituted upon the basis of the best regulated Clubs elsewhere, is intended to promote social intercourse and to combine all the comforts of a home, being provided with a Restaurant, Card Rooms, Library, Reading and Billiard Rooms, and sup- l)lied with such papers, periodicals and magazinen. as sliall appear to tlie Committee to be requisite. n. Two members of the committee shall examine the ballot after the term of one week has expired. VII. Members residing out of the City of Mctoria, and hav- ing no settled place of business in the city, shall pay a «|uarterly subscription of $5, in advance. Any member who may be absent from the colony duriiig a period of six months, or more, may, at his option, bo considered a supernnmerary member, and be exempt from subscriptions during snch absence, but he shall notify the Secretary of his raturn and pay his snbscription for the current mouth, or pro-rata. Tf his wish to rejoin be rot communicated within one month after his return, he shall no longer be deemed a member. Former members of good standing, who have voluntarily left the Club, may be re-admitted by the Governing Committee at any regular ill r s. meeting- by a unnaimous vote of the meeting, the candi- date for rcadmission paying the usual initiation fee. VIII. Nott residents of the colony may be introduced to the Club for a period of (15) fifteen days by any member who shall issue a card of invitation, signed by himself, entitlino; such visitor to the privileges of the Club for the period specified ; and the name of such non-resident to be in- scribed in the register of visitors. IX. Commissioned officers of the Army and Navy and cler- gymen admitted without ballot, upon payment of a monthly subscription of two dollars and a half in advance payable on the first day of each month. XL The Committee shall meet at least once in eacli month. Pour of the Committee shall form a quorum. All vacan- cies in the Committee shall be filled by the remaining members thereof, from the list of members of the Club. XII. There shall be annual meetings of the Club, held in the first week of January, for the purpose of electing a Gov- erning Committee, and transacting other business. XIJI. In case of a special meeting of the Club being required, the Committee shall give two days' notice thereof, speci- fying the object for which such meeting is called, and the Secretary shall address such notice to each member then in the city. The Committee shall call a special meeting by their own vote, or on the application of ten members of the Club, iu writing. At any meeting twenty paying members of the Club shall conriitute a quorum, and if at the time fixed for said meeting twenty members be not present, those attending may adjourn the meeting till the next evening, at which time ten members shall constitute a quorum. XIV. Xo illegal games shall be permitted. k. ! i ! W 10. XV. The amusements permitted in the Club house, and all other Bubjects of internal regulation not provided for in these By-Laws, shall be under the control of the Govern- ing Committee. XVI. It shall be the duty of the Governing Committee, in case any circumstance should occur likely to endanger the har- mony, welfare, or good order of the Club, to call a special meeting, and if it be proposed that any member or mem- bers shall be expelled, a vote by ballot for that purpose shall be taken, to be decided by five-sixths of the votes deposited. XVII. Every member shall have the privilege of inviting his friends to the Restaurant Department of the Club, provi- ded timely notice be given, and it does not interfere with the general comfort of the members. Such members shall be responsible for the debts contracted by their guests. XVIII. XIX. All communications, regardin^^ tiie affairs of the Club must be made to the Governing Committee, in writing. XX. Dogs, at all times, to be excluded from the Club. XXI. The management of the Club is vested in the proprietor who will conduct its affairs, under the supervision of the Governing Committee. The entrance fees and subscrip- tions shall be for the sole benefit of the proprietor, who assumes the entire responsibility. The Governing Com- mittee shall have control of the selection of, and the pnces to be charged for wines, liquors, board, etc. XXIT. No member shall, on any pretext, or in anv manner whatever, receive any salary or compensation >rom the proprietor of the Club. XXIIl. All resignations shall be made in writing to the Gov- erning Committee. XXIV. These By-Laws shall be subject to alteration or amend- ment, at any meeting of the Club, by a two-thirds vote.
