QUEBEC (FoRMEitLY Lower Canada). Lower Canada Laws prior to the conquest of Quebec are preserved in the Edicts and Ordinances of the French Kings and Governors, and those of the English Governors begin with 1777. The first Provincial Parlia- ment was opened in 1793 and the last was closed in 1836. The Governor and Special Council passed Ordinances having force of Statutes 1838-41 in six sessions. In 1841 the union of Lower Canada with Upper Canada took effect, lasting until 1866, but the united Legislature patised many Statutes having effect only in Lower Canada. In 1867 the first Legisla- ture of Quebec was held. The following is a complete collection of all the published Law Reports of Lower Canada : OF STATUTES, Ac.
