IX.— No Member, being in arrear to the Club, Disabilities shall be eligible to any office, or as a Member ofSnaJrSn" any Committee of the Club, or be entitled to speak or vote at its Meetings. Nor shall the resignation of any Member so in arrear be accepted by the Club. Should any Member not have paid his yearly subscription by the first of April in any year, his name shall forthwith be struck from the list of the Members of the Club. And if for any office more than one person shall be so put in nomination, the Club shall proceed to elect to the same by ballot from among the persons so nomina- ted ; and a majority of all the votes cast shall in such case be required in order to such election. XV — Every Officer of the Club not present at any regular meeting shall be fined for such absence in the sum of five shillings ; unless, upon sufiicient excuse being given, the Club shall see fit to remit such fine. XVI.— It shall be the duty of the President to take the Chair at the meetings of the Club ; to decide all questions of order, and generally to ex- I , 11 ercise all the functions incident to that office. At the first reguiai meeting of the Club after his election he shall deliver an address. XVTI.—In the absence of the President, the vic.-Presi. XIX — It shall be the duty of the Secretary to .,,^,,^^.^^ keep an accurate record of the proceedings of the '''''''"'^' Club, to preserve carefully its papers, and to con- duct all the correspondence of the Club, with the exception of that especially relating to the Trea- surer's department. At the last regular meeting in the month of December in every year, he shall read to the Club a detailed report of its proceed- ings for the past year. XX.— It shall be the duty of the Treasurer to ^^ca un collect and take charge of the Funds of the Club ; to pay all orders for money on account of the Club,' signed by the President, Secretary, or Chairman of the House Committee; to keep accurate ac- counts of his receipts and disbursements ; to lay rer. 12 before the Club a half-yearly balance sheet of its affairs ; to read to the Club, at the last regular meeting in the month of December in every year, a full yearly report, in which shall be stated the names of all members in arrear, and the amount due by each ; and further, from time to time, to report to the Club the names of any members in airear, and the amount due by each, whenever required so to do by the Club or by the President. XXI. — In the absence of the Secretary, the Assistant Secretary shall perform his duties; and it shall be his duty at all other times to render him any required assistance. I. — The House Committee shall hold weekly meetings, at such times as they may from time to time appoint ; minutes whereof shall be preserved in a book to be kept for that purpose : Provided always that the Minute Book be open to inspection of the members of the Club at all times. II. — The House Committee shall submit to the Club, at its annual meeting, with its rep^ ; for the past year, a statement of the expenditure incurred in the department under its charge ; and shall further, at the meeting previous to such annual meeting, submit an estimate of the probable expenditure for the ensuing year. in. — The Club House shall be open every day for the reception of members, at Eight o'clock, a. m. ; and shall continue open until one o'clock, a. m., (except on Sundays, when it will only be open from Two p. m. to Ten p. m.) The Club House to be closed on Saturday night at eleven o'clock precisely. The gas will invariably be tui ned off at the closing hours above named, and no light will be per- mitted in the Club Rooms, except for the use of se-vants, after those hours, subject however to any special directions which the House Committee may issue in th*3 behalf. 4 18 IV. — No Smoking will be allowed in any part of the Club House, except the Smoking Room. V. — No Game of Cards, except Whist, shall bu allowed within the Club Houoe, and that only after eight o'clock, p.m. ; and no Game whatever shall be permitted in the Club Rooms between eleven o'clock each Saturday and the fol- lowing Monday. VI. — Games of Hazard shall not, under any pretence, be played in the Club Rooms, neither shall Dice be used therein, except for the Game of Backgammon. Vn. — No Betting shall be allowed in the Club House, no?' shall any higher rate than Quartor-Dollar " Points'* be plavtd for. Any infringement of this Rule to bo imme- diaioly reported to the Club by the House Committee. Vni. — No Member shall take, or permit to be taken away, from the Club House, on any pretence whatever, or shall injure or destroy, any Newspaper, Periodical, or other article, the property of the Club. IX. — Members shall pay their bills and every expense they incur in the Club House bofore leaving the same. X. — No Member shall, on any account, bring a dog into the Club House XI. — Strangers residing upwards of fifty miles from Montreal shall, if introduced by a Member, have the pixvilege of visiting the Club House for one fortnight after such introduction. 19 XII. — Any infr ction of these Rules shall be :aken cognizance of by the House Committeo, who swall have the power of inflicting such penalty as the case may re- quire, unless they should consider the offence deserving of suspension or expulsion, in which case they shall submit the matter to the Club for its action.
