Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying:, I am the light of the world ; he that followeth me siall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life. THE MAN-MADE MINISTER. Taught in the Theological College by his fellow man for money. The one thing on earth, That I value most, Is money, yes money, Without that I'm lost, It soothes all my sorrows. Drives away every care. When I've plenty of money, There's nothing I fear. THE GOD-MADE MINISTER. Taught by the Holy Spirit, without money and without price. I Tim. 6 — 9, lo, n. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snar'% and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, wh b drown men in destruction and perdition. For t' e love uf " ley is the root of all evil, which while some covei i after they have erred from the faith, and pierced ♦^^mselves through with many sorrows, Brt thou, ' ot God, flee these things, and follow after righ «i€ss, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. For all these things do the natiu.. of tijc world seek after, and your Father knoweth ve have need of these things. But rather seek ye % ' 'Hi of God, and all these things shall be addet. If any of you lack wisdom, let hi*n ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. I Cor. I — 19, 20, 21, 22, 23. 24. Sing unto God, sing praises > His Name ; extol Him that rideth upon the heav ui, bv His name Jah, and rejoice before Him. A Father the fatherless and a judge of the widows is G( in h holy habitation. Ps. 146—9. The Lord preserveth the strangers ; he relieveth the fatherless and widow but the way of the wicked he turneth tipside down. Is. 10—2. To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of My people that widovvs may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless. ' Matt. 23—13, 14. But woe unto you Scribes and Pharisees h^ pocrites ! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven again men ; for ye neither go in yourselves, neith. r suffer ye them that are entering to go in' Woe unto you you Scribes and Pharisees hypocrites ! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer ; therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. i8 THE MAN-MADE MINISTER. For out widows and orphans, And the aged divines, ^fiind is provided, We did wisely betimes. Don't be selfish or mean. Or you may be dunned. But give us )w/r money To strengthen our fund. THE GOD-M L)K MINISTER. James 5—1, 2, 3. Go to now. ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. Your jjold and silver is cankered ; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Matt. 6 — 19, 20, 21. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt and where thieves break throug and steal ; But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt and where thie . es do not break through nor steal, for where your treasure is there will your heart be also. Luke 12—16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21. And he spake a parable unto them, saying, the ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully ; And he thought within himself, saying, what shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits ? And he said this will I do, I will pull down my barns, and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, soul thou hast much goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee, then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided. So is he that layeth up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God. 20 THE MAN-MADE MINISTER. The religion I preach Is an invention of man, 'Tis keep all you've got And beg all you can. So the plate's handed round, To be filled to the brim ; Although some may sink, I always can swim. 21 THE GOD-MADE MINISTER. Eccles. 7 — 29. Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright ; but they have sought out many inventions. Is. 2 — 22. Cease ye from man whose breath is in his nostrils ; for wherein is he to be accounted of ? I John 2 — 15. Love not the world ; neither the things that are in the world ; if any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. Matt. 6 — 24, 25, 26. No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other ; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and Mammon. There- fore I say unto you, take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink ; nor yet for your body what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment ? Behold the fowls of the air ; for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they ? Matt. 10 — 29< 30, 31. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing ? and one of them shall not fall on the ground witnout your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore, ye are ot more value tliau many sparrows. 22 THE MAN-MADE MINISTEF. There's a question you may heai Discussed every day, Who gets the most profit On the smallest outlay. Not mechanics, not lawyers, Not doctors, oh no, My begging is all profit, That really is so. 23 THE GOD-MADE MINISTER. I Tim. 6 — 5, 6, 7, 8. Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness, from such withdraw thyself. But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out, and having food and raiment let us be therewith content. Heb. 4 — 2. For unto us was the Gospel preached, as well as unto them, but the Word did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it. Prov. 15 — 27. He that is greedy of gain trouble th his own house. But he that hateth gifts shall live. Phil. I— 21, 22, 23, 24. For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh this is the fruit of my labour, Yet what I shall choose I wot not, for 1 am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire h- depart and to be with Christ, which is far better. Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more jieedful for you, 24 THE MAN-MADE MINISTER. When reading the Bible We often find a mistake, Say some divine doctors, Whose judgment I take. But in one thing We all agree to perfection, That whenever we preach We must make a collection. ■1* 25 THE GOD-MADE MINISTER. John 7—37. 3^. 39- In the last day that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst let him come unto ivie and drink, he that believeth on Vie as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that believe on Him should receive, for the Holy Ghost was not yet given ; because that Jesus was not yet glorified;. I Cor. 2—12, 13, 14. Now ;e have received not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God, that w- might know the things that are freely given to us of God, which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth, com- paring spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him, neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. lyuke 24—45. Then opened He their understand- ing, that they might understand the Scriptures. 26 THE MAN MADE MINISTER. My clothes of black cloth And it's clerical cut, Insures me due reverence, Whene'er I walk out, And the prefix and affix Attached to my name, Proclaims to the world That I am divine. 27 THE GOD-MADE MINISTER. Matt 23-5, 6, 7, 8. 9, 10, II. 12. But all their works they do, for to be seen of men. they make broad their Phylacteries and enlarge the borders of heir garments, and love the uppermost rooms at feasts and the chief seats in tU synagogues, and greetings in the markets, and be to called of men Rabbi Rabbi, but be not ye called Rabbi, for one is your Master even Christ, and all ye are brethren, and call no man your father upon the earth, for One is your Father which is in heaven, neither be ye c - masters, for one is your Master even Ch ist but he that is greatest among you shall be your servant and whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased, and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. Ps. 111-9. He sent redemption unto His people He hath commanded His covenant for ever holv and reverend is His name. Exodus 20-7. Thou Shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, for the I.ord will not hold him guiltless that takeih His Name in vaia 38 THE MAN-MADE MINISTER. Sometimes the thought coupes, And Oh ! well it may, Where shall I stand In the great Judgment Day ? The Judge is infallible, He'll make no mistake, And the Bible tells plainly, Which road I must take. 29 THE GOD-MADE MINISTER. John 14 — I, 2, 3, 4. Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also, and whither I go ye know and the way ye know. 2 Tim. 4 — 6, 7, 8. For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which th*- Lord the righteous Judge shall give me at that day, a..d not to me only, but unto all them that love His appearing. John 1 7 — 24. Father I will that they also, whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me, for Thou lovedst Me before the foundation of the world. Matt. 25 — 3 . Then shall the King say unto them on His right Land, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you, from the foundation of the world. ■
