Sib, — I beg to submit the reuults of analvsing 117 standard sampleH of fertilizers, which, in acooraanoe with the provisions of the ^rtiliters Act, 1890, were sent to the Minister of Inland Revenue as representing the goods which the manufacturers propose U> ofler for sale in the Dominion during the present year. These samples should, ac- cording to the Act, be sent in before the and of the month of January in each year, but it was not until about the middle of March, I90S, that the last of them were received. The following is a statement of the number at such standard samples which have been submitted to this Branch during the pa... nine years :— In 1897 there were analysed 107 samples. 1898 124 1899 1S4 1900 107 1901 102 1902 106 190» 128 1904 111 190S 120 The tabulated statement appended to this report gives the designations of the various brands of fertilizers, the names of the manufactuiers or importers, the claims made as regards their fertilizing constituents, and the actual percentage of these found in the standard samples on analysis in this laboratory. The guaranteed contents must be understood to indicate only the lowest percentages claimed on the manufacturer's label or given in his correspondtnce with the Department.
