From hundreds of testimonials received during the past 30 years by the
Principal, the following is selected, lieing the farewell adiiiess prosente<l to him
in Seplemler tSSr, on the eve of his departure from Ottawa, Ontario, the capi-
tal of the Dominion of Canada, where Mr. Piiillipps tiuglit for 17 years. This
was signed l)y the Mayor, the living Ex-Mayors, Clergy, I'nnkers, Doctors
Lawyers, and 300 of the leading citizens:

TJio Rov. T. T>. Pliillippn, M.A., Rector of Trinity Church, Arohvillc, anil late Matlu-nia

Rrv\ and Dear Sir: — We have heard with regret that you are about to
leave Ottawa for another sphere of labor, and we cannot allow you to go with-
 out a parting word.

When you came to Ottawa several years ago, your fame as a scholar and
(e.icher of youth had preceded you; so that the pafifcnts and guardians of child-
len here held high expectations as to the success of the work you ihen under-
took to accomplish. Tiiey have not been disappointed, and only regret that
that work has been cut short in an untimely manner. We regret your depar-
ture from this scene of your many educational triumphs as a loss to Ottawa
and to Canada; in which country you rank, we believe, amon^^t the very best
of her most successful teachers. As to those of us who have been fortunate
enough to have been your pupils, we shall always remember you with afifection
and gratitude for your faithful and fatherly treatment of us, whilst under your
charge, as well as admiration for the great abilities and sound scholarship
which so highly distinguished you as mathematical master in the Ottawa
 Collegiate Institute.

One and all, parents and pupiU, friends and acquaintances, we unite in
sincere regret at your departure, and prayers for your welfare and that of your
family in the future; requesting your acceptance of the accomprnying purse as
a slight token cf our affection and esteem.

 Mayor ; et al.
